The Force is Strong With This One
If one accepts the distinction between Souled humans and Organic Portals, which can be put also in terms of Spiritual Consciousness as opposed to merely Biological Consciousness, then it logically follows that the Genus Proximum is the carbon-based-body which both share.
And that biological consciousness / beast inside is what any Souled human has to transcend in its spiritual evolution.
On another hand, to 'demonize' Carbon-based-life seems kind of extreme, and misses the point of spiritual evolution. After all we become awake as spiritual consciouses inside this organic body, and from inside it we have to work.
But Carbon allows for some interesting analogies. One is based on the two forms it has in a natural state, Graphite and Diamond, black & white. So one could say that the point is to transmute oneself from Graphite to Diamond, on an inner level.
Even our Sun seems to be on the Carbon line of evolution, towards Diamond

And from this perspective, one could also understand why Silicium-based-life (i.e. Artificial Intelligence) is at the present point just a catalyst not the next evolutionary level. For we, as Humanity, have yet to finish the carbon level and turn into Human Diamonds. And interestingly enough, silicium is next below carbon on the same row in the periodical table
