Regarding possible cures to the virus, another one is Cistus Incanus (herb) which exhibits potent antiviral effect according to numerous articles. I haven't seen it discussed much in the Forum so i thought some info might be of use.

Anti-adhesive properties of the plant extracts Cystus052 and Ladania067 as a broadly effective antiviral principle against respiratory viruses

With 3.9 million fatal cases worldwide, severe and acute infections of the respiratory tract are among the most common causes of death from infectious agents. Children under 5 years of age in particular have 120 million cases of pneumonia with mostly viral etiology with up to 1.4 million deaths. In addition, the appearance of new and highly dangerous respiratory pathogens, such as the SARS coronavirus or the highly pathogenic influenza viruses. Due to this threat, the World Health Organization (WHO) has launched a "Battle against Respiratory Viruses (BRaVe)" initiative to create a "Call to Action" paper that highlights the urgent need for safe and effective therapeutics with the broadest possible antiviral spectrum. Here, plant products from traditional medicine to ward off respiratory viruses are increasingly becoming the focus of scientific research.

Cystus052 is a polyphenol-rich plant extract from a special variety of Cistus incanus L., the gray-haired rock rose, for which a broad antiviral activity against various subtypes of influenza viruses, but also against other respiratory pathogens such as rhino or adenoviruses, has been demonstrated. The mechanism of action follows an unusual principle: The viruses are prevented from binding to or entering the host cell by interacting with the extract components. At the same time, healthy host cells showed no reaction to the extracts. For example, Cystus052 treatment did not affect morphology, proliferation, metabolism, or cell viability.

The lack of a cellular response to treatment with Cystus052 with a strong antiviral effect prompted further studies on the mechanism of action. As a result, it could be shown that Cystus052 is neither able to trigger receptor-mediated signals in the cell, nor to inhibit the activation of these processes by natural ligands of receptors. So cells seem to be somewhat inert to the effects of Cystus052. This means that Cystus052 does not meet the definition of a pharmacological effect, but the main effect would be more physical than non-specific anti-adhesive. This is also in line with the broad antiviral activity against a wide variety of viruses and has another advantage: the pathogens cannot easily escape the relatively unspecific attack, so that, for example, no resistant influenza pathogens could be found after treatment with Cystus052.

Ladania067, a preparation made from the leaves of Ribes nigrum L., was recently identified as another extract with a broad and strong antiviral effect that follows a similar principle of action (see V07). In summary, it can be said that anti-adhesive plant products in the sense of the WHO Call to Action represent a promising option for the antiviral treatment of respiratory viruses. Because of the low risk of side effects, one should not only consider therapy, but also prophylaxis.

And two more papers, from Antiviral Research (v.76, #1) :

CYSTUS052, a polyphenol-rich plant extract, exerts anti-influenza virus activity in mice

Influenza, a respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses, is still a worldwide threat with a high potential to cause a pandemic. Beside vaccination, only two classes of drugs are available for antiviral treatment against the pathogen. Here we show that CYSTUS052, a plant extract from a special variety of Cistus incanus that is rich in polymeric polyphenols, exhibits antiviral activity against a highly pathogenic avian influenza A virus (H7N7) in cell culture and in a mouse infection model. In vitro and in vivo treatment was performed with an aerosol formulation, because the bioavailability of high molecular weight polyphenols is poor. In MDCK cells, a 90% reduction of plaque numbers on cells pre-incubated with the plant extract was achieved. For in vivo experiments we used a novel monitoring system for influenza A virus-infected mice that allows measurement of body temperature and gross motor-activity of the animals. Mice treated with CYSTUS052 did not develop disease, showed neither differences in their body temperature nor differences in their gross motor-activity and exhibited no histological alterations of the bronchiolus epithelial cells.

A polyphenol rich plant extract, CYSTUS052, exerts anti influenza virus activity in cell culture without toxic side effects or the tendency to induce viral resistance

Infections with influenza A viruses still pose a major threat to humans and several animal species. The occurrence of highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses of the H5N1 subtype capable to infect and kill humans highlights the urgent need for new and efficient countermeasures against this viral disease. Here we demonstrate that a polyphenol rich extract (CYSTUS052) from the Mediterranean plant Cistus incanus exerts a potent anti-influenza virus activity in A549 or MDCK cell cultures infected with prototype avian and human influenza strains of different subtypes. CYSTUS052 treatment resulted in a reduction of progeny virus titers of up to two logs. At the effective dose of 50 μg/ml the extract did not exhibit apparent harming effects on cell viability, metabolism or proliferation, which is consistent with the fact that these plant extracts are already used in traditional medicine in southern Europe for centuries without any reported complications. Viruses did not develop resistance to CYSTUS052 when compared to amantadine that resulted in the generation of resistant variants after only a few passages. On a molecular basis the protective effect of CYSTUS052 appears to be mainly due to binding of the polymeric polyphenol components of the extract to the virus surface, thereby inhibiting binding of the hemagglutinin to cellular receptors. Thus, a local application of CYSTUS052 at the viral entry routes may be a promising approach that may help to protect from influenza virus infections.

There are articles mentioning CI efficacy in fighting HIV virus as well.

I live in Germany (near Munich) and here the situation is at least odd. While in the surrounding villages certain goods are completely sold out (desinfection spray, toilet paper, rubber gloves etc) here in the center of my city there are no gaps at all in the supermarket shelves.

Here on the German countryside some supermarkt shelves were empty. (Rice, Pasta, toilet paper, ready-made meals and many other items.) Felt spooky, especially here. On the business front, many people are afraid that events such as trade fairs get canceled, as some already did. Hopefully it fizzles out now (largely depends on the media I guess), but the lesson is how incredibly fragile our economy and society are. Panic sure is contagious, and it can bring the whole thing down quickly!

Same thing to report here from another part of germany. Reportedly (I haven't seen it myself) many shelves were empty and supposedly noodles were one of the most catchy items. :umm:

Just received this from a friend:
While you are hoarding food, remember: rice comes from China, pasta from Italy!:lol::lol:

Has anyone seen the latest count? France is conspiring to catch up with Japan.

Remember the guy cited earlier in this thread, researcher James Lyons-Weiler, who claimed he 'found evidence in the genome sequence' of this virus pointing to it being lab-made?

He doesn't believe that anymore.

Now he says it's natural...

Things You Don't Yet Know But Need to Know About The Novel Coronavirus Including Treatment Information and How to Prepare Your Home

Our best available data at this time indicates that this virus was not made in a laboratory. It most likely is an older virus related to SARS and is rare in nature and was transferred to humans either in a laboratory studying the virus or from a spillover event from someone handling an infected animal or its meat. The most likely candidate for the reservoir species is a bat.

He also says:

[...] knowing who is infected is difficult due to the prolonged asymptomatic prodromal period.

As we've been pointing out, you CANNOT gauge an accurate baseline number of 'confirmed infected cases' because many (if not most) probably never develop symptoms!

But then he shows that he's bought into the scare by parroting the WHO/CDC/EU recommendations that everyone self-quarantine and engage in 'social isolation' for weeks on end:

It is important to know that greetings in public should no longer involve shaking hands or high-fives, hugging or kissing – even in areas of the world where SARS-CoV-2 has not yet been found. Elbow bumps are ok.

His latest article on it nevertheless has some useful tips about supplements that help the immune system fight viruses:

Treatments under study include nutriceuticals and supplements; Supplements that might have a positive effect, noted by colleague Dr. Theron Hutton, MD, include N-acetyl cystein, selenium, spirulina and high dose glucosamine (See “Nutraceuticals have potential for boosting the type 1 interferon response to RNA viruses including influenza and coronavirus” and antiviral drugs such as Disulfiram and Chloroquine Phosphate (See: “Disulfiram can inhibit MERS and SARS coronavirus papain-like proteases via different modes“. See “Remdesivir and chloroquine effectively inhibit the recently emerged novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in vitro“. See “Expert consensus on chloroquine phosphate for the treatment of novel coronavirus pneumonia“. Selenium and other micronutrient deficiency is considered to play a role in severity of a coronavirus infection (See: “Micronutrient Selenium Deficiency Influences Evolution of Some Viral Infectious Diseases“). Glycyrrhizin, an active component of liquorice roots, has been found to have few toxic effects and to be clinically effective against SARS-associated coronavirus. (See: “Glycyrrhizin, an active component of liquorice roots, and replication of SARS-associated coronavirus“)

Of course you are right. I was just poking fun at Costco, which can feel nuts during any weekend.
Yes it can be a crazy place at times. Hahaha

Still, for about a week now I have noticed that the number of older more fragile drivers on the road is quite a bit lower than normal. Likely quite a few of them have had their annual flue shots.

Based upon what my immune system has been dealing with, if the flu is going around, the likelihood of quite a few of them are sick in bed is high.

I am getting positive results from the addition of Elderberry and Pomegranate juice to my daily intake of Iodine and Serropeptase.

In 2019, China introduced mandatory vaccines for adults

This law took effect on December 1st, 2019.

Wow, that's a definitive evil act by the Chinese government.

I wonder how long the US religious freedom under the 1st amendment will hold up in actually preventing mandatory vaccines.

I'm just shocked that hlat made a joke! No offense, just seems like a serious person most of the time.
Maybe those books on how to be a nice, regular person are working.

Well, duh! As we've been pointing out, you CANNOT gauge an accurate baseline number of 'confirmed infected cases' because many (if not most) probably never develop symptoms!

Bingo!

Chinese researchers confirmed that patients can transmit the coronavirus without showing symptoms

Chinese researchers have confirmed a case of asymptomatic transmission of the new coronavirus: A 20-year-old woman from Wuhan passed it to five of her family members but never got physically sick herself.

The case study is the first concrete evidence that a person showing no symptoms can pass the coronavirus to others – a fact that could make curbing the outbreak even more challenging.

The researchers behind the finding said the 20-year-old woman was isolated and closely observed at the Fifth People's Hospital of Anyang. She never become physically ill, even after her family members developed fevers. Two of them got severe pneumonia.

For now, the woman's asymptomatic transmission appears to be an anomaly, but health experts have documented other instances in which people tested positive for the virus without showing symptoms.

A report from the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention analysed records of all of China's reported cases of the virus from December 8 to February 11 and found that 1.2 percent of patients confirmed to be infected showed no symptoms.

A far higher portion of asymptomatic cases was found on the Diamond Princess cruise ship, where 322 of 621 people tested positive but showed no symptoms.

"It's very clear that the people who are getting caught in that umbrella of reporting are the people that present themselves to a hospital," Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said at a briefing on February 6.

"There's another whole cohort that is either asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic."

And that 'cohort' - which I would not be surprised to discover is in fact the large majority of SARS-COV-2 carriers - significantly increases the baseline number of 'confirmed cases' and thus significantly decreases the mortality rate.

I wonder how long the US religious freedom under the 1st amendment will hold up in actually preventing mandatory vaccines.
Families' associations are hanging in there, court case by court case.

The doctor here says the mortality rate is about twice to four times as bad as the flu, not 2%

Only problem of this compared to the flu is how transmissible it is.

I have a friend who works in public health in the UK. He's a doctor. He told me that basically by the time it'll all be said and done, you'll be more likely to get it than not to get it, so FYI. He also says his view is that the virus won't go away, that it'll just be another disease we have to deal with like the flu or any other virus out there.

Another doctor said that again, the mortality rate is highly influenced by the quality of medical care the 20% who end up in a bad situation end up getting. Obviously if a country's health system is swamped, the health care quality will go down and so it'll push up the death rate. Some doctors think this is what's happening in Iran... They just can't care well enough for those in serious or critical condition.
