Oh yeah, I had just finished lunch when I felt my couch shake in the first quake at about 2:57pm, then as I was having my tea on the balcony, logged on to the Forum, that the second quake hit, and well feel 4.6 in magnitude, I was able to repeat to myself twice (among other things) "and if the balcony falls off, what should I do?!?"
On the floor below, my 10 year old "nephew" came in tears, it was his first panic earthquake, we had a good laugh when I asked him where he should go in such a situation, and he answered "lock himself in a wardrobe".

So I forgot to log out of the Forum before I left.
So those of you who were online at the time may have felt a little jolt.

Here is a camera that is still shaking!

El terremoto que hizo temblar Galicia, grabado desde una cámara en la costa
This time I was leaning back in my old chair, which started to shake while I had the headphones on, and then the usual quietness returned quietly, as if nothing had happened.

A 3.8 tremor shook Barbanza at dawn
Barbanza shook in the early hours of Thursday morning. A movement of magnitude 3.8 on the Richter scale, which had its epicentre in the Atlantic Ocean, was felt in a large part of the region. According to data from the National Geographic Institute (IGN), it occurred at 3.45 a.m., at a depth of 19 kilometres and some 40 kilometres from Fisterra, off the coasts of Muros and Carnota.

As soon as the tremor occurred, neighbours from different parts of the region confirmed having felt it through social networks. In Ribeira, Boiro, Porto do Son, Noia, Rianxo and Lousame, people from the towns of Ribeira, Boiro, Porto do Son, Noia, Rianxo and Lousame claimed to have felt the tremor and some neighbours said they had noticed it clearly.

This type of tremors are common in the earth's crust, due to the pressure exerted by faults and cracks caused by the movement of tectonic plates, but in this area, they are rarely felt by the inhabitants. As was the case this morning, the two movements recorded at the end of January were noticed. On that occasion, the magnitudes were 3.7 and 4.6. Although both had their epicentre in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Ribeira, the tremor they caused was felt even beyond the borders of the region.

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 5.4 quake in the United States near Eureka, Humboldt County, California,. The earthquake hit in the morning on Sunday, January 1st, 2023, at 10:35 am local time at a shallow depth of 17 miles.

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- A preliminary magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck in Humboldt County in Northern California on Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake happened at 10:35 a.m. and struck 9.3 miles southeast of Rio Dell at a depth of 17.3 miles.
This comes nearly two weeks after a large 6.4 earthquake hit Humboldt County in Northern California, killing two people and injured about a dozen people. It caused widespread damage.

So far, there have no reports of any major damage or injuries.

But State Route 211 at Fernbridge, Humboldt County is closed as officials are assessing for any damage, Caltrans said. "The bridge is closed while we conduct safety inspections from today's New Year's Day earthquake."

Humboldt County 2nd District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell told ABC7 news anchor Liz Kreutz the power is out again in Rio Dell.

And according to PG&E power map, there are at least 500 to 4,999 customers without power based on the "orange squares" in the Rio Dell area.

Gage Dupper- who was displaced from the 6.4 earthquake in December after his home was shaken off its foundation, told Liz Kreutz in a text message, writing:

"I'm still a nomad at the moment. Rio Dell is without power, but I believe there is still water. Today was another pretty big one. Still feels like we are shaking to me. We just can't catch a break it seems."

"I'm at work in Fortuna. A town over. But even just here it felt like the ceiling was going to come down. We nearly lost our power here as well. I was in the middle of talking to a resident of the assisted living community I work for and you could just see the panic in their eyes when it started. She was just trying to pay her rent. It certainly tossed us around a bit."

Quake Prediction Says "Signal Just Hit," Warns Of Potential Big Earthquake From San Francisco To LA

An earthquake rattled parts of Northern California on Sunday for the second time in two weeks. The 5.4-magnitude quake was centered about 30 miles south of Eureka. On Dec. 20, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake also struck near Eureka.

Now one quake prediction research firm warned that the next big one could be imminent.

On Monday morning, Quake Predictions published a warning that read for the next two days -- there is a "dangerous situation" of the likelihood of a 7.0-magnitude "in the San Francisco Bay to NW of Los Angeles area."

The warning comes after two sizeable quakes hit Northern California in less than two weeks.

Sunday morning's earthquake was described as "more violent this time," Rio Dell Mayor Debra Garnes told CNN in an interview.

"It was shorter but more violent. My refrigerator moved two feet. Things came out of the refrigerator. There's a crack in my wall from the violence of it," Garnes said.

California has an average of five earthquakes per year with magnitudes between 5 and 6, according to LATimes. And the latest shakings might suggest a long overdue big quake could be nearing.

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 has rocked the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.

It struck some 15 miles from Port-Olry, also hitting at a depth of 17 miles, the US Geological Survey said earlier today.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for coasts located within 186 miles of the epicenter.

‘Tsunami waves reaching 0.3 to 1 meters above the tide level are possible for some coasts of Vanuatu,’ a warning said.

There have been no immediate reports of damage to buildings or casualties.

But the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) has urged people to ‘move way from the coast and reach a higher place’ immediately.

Vanuatu is home to about 280,000 people and is prone to natural disasters.

There are about six active volcanoes as well as regular cyclones and earthquakes.

The country sits on the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire’, the arc of seismic faults around the Pacific Ocean where earthquakes and volcanoes are common.

Earthquake Forecast

A convergence of planetary geometry on 7 January may trigger larger seismic activity around 9 January. Planetary and lunar geometry with Saturn on 10 January may cause larger seismic activity around 13 January.

Could the X1.2 flare from January 6, 2023 have had any influence on the magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Vanuatu?

Solar activity has been at high levels for the past 24 hours. The largest solar event of the period, as mentioned above, was a X1 event observed at 00:57 UTC on January 06 from Region 3182 (S16E59). This was the first X-flare of the year.
