I can't imagine what all those people were going through? The article further states:

The earthquake struck just as the category 2 Hurricane Otto descended near the southeastern coast of Nicaragua. Thousands had already been evacuated from coastal areas.

The hurricane brought strong winds of around 175 kilometers (110 miles) per hour and heavy rainfalls, threatening to instigate dangerous floods and mudslides.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has declared a state of emergency in the country due to the earthquake and the hurricane.

Add the tsunami warning to the mix. If you think in terms of the four elements, Earth (earthquakes), Air or wind (hurricane) and a possible tsunami (water) - the only thing they didn't get hit with was "fire". Wow!

I was thinking the same thing seeing this video. We have seeing a lot of videos during an earthquake and this one does not seem true at all.

These recent quakes in Central America and Tajikistan have been really quite strong and it seems to correlate to the current space weather situation; as of the midday yesterday we were in a geomagnetic storm (see below) but the current situation i've not had chance to check, so this is a bit dated:

15230588_1070152036416045_3926244377168455681_n.png

And according to spaceweather:
SOLAR WIND STORM: Earth is now fully inside a high-speed solar wind stream flowing from a large hole in the sun's atmosphere. Gusts clocking 600+ km/s are causing G1-class geomagnetic storms and bright auroras around the poles.

"These were the most intense auroras I've ever seen!" says Stålnacke. "And here in Kiruna I get to see them all the time.
The rapidly moving greens and pinks were a real treat."

The solar wind stream responsible for this display is broad and should take several days to cross. Arctic auroras are likely from now until at least Nov. 26th.

“A seismic event was recorded in the country, "Juan Andrés Roballo, the assistant secretary of the presidency, told the press conference that the government called this morning.

The doctor in Geological Sciences Leda Sanchez was in the charge of providing the information of he tremor that was registered to the 23:29 hours of Thursday. The expert explained that the epicenter was between Toledo and Las Piedras. The depth of the focus was of few kilometers, according to the data of the next station of Aiguá in Maldonado. The magnitude of the phenomenon was 2.98 according to the Richter scale. – at the conference she mentions that it could go to 4-Marcali...

Experts are awaiting data from Brazil that will "improve the location and characterization of this earthquake," said Sánchez.

"Our country is located in a geologically stable region, far from the limits of the tectonic plates where most of the major earthquakes and volcanism are generated, it has been mistakenly assumed that earthquakes will never affect us. Although Uruguay is a country with a low seismic risk, it can not be considered as null. "Our region had already experienced earthquakes and is doing so again this time, luckily of low magnitude," said the specialist .

The causes of the phenomenon are unknown, since there is no information on "the tectonic structure of all of Uruguay," she added.

In Uruguay there is an instrumental record of this type of events since 2013. From March of that year to March 2014, 23 seismic events were recorded. In 2016 there was an earthquake in the Cerro, but in that case was stronger and more localized than the one that registered this Thursday.

The National Army reported in a statement that the Military Geographic Service is monitoring the data received through the National Geodetic Network Active, which record the speed of movement of the Earth's crust in latitude, longitude and height. He also said that a report on the phenomenon will be issued in the near future. ---but that data was not given

On Thursday night, 108 calls were registered to the Fire Department alerting a tremor accompanied by a loud noise. In social networks, users of different neighborhoods of Montevideo, Canelones and Maldonado reported the same phenomenon.

Roballo requested the population to report "characteristics of the phenomenon" to the mail ogu@fcien.edu.uy of the Geophysical Observatory Faculty of Sciences.

The tremor was felt in areas ranging from Las Piedras. There were also reports in Manga, in the city of Canelones, in La Paz, Solymar and Salinas.

In mid-March, there was an earthquake in Cerro, although at that time the causes of the movement were not identified.

I agree more with the chilean geophysicist expert in which he mentions that it might had been a sonic boom ...

Chilean expert says it was not an earthquake but a "sonic boom"
Luis Donoso, a geophysicist and vice president of the International Association for Chile Emergency Management, said that what happened last night in several areas of Uruguay was not an earthquake, but a phenomenon called sonic boom.

Last night several areas of Montevideo and Canelones shook by an earthquake whose epicenter was near the town of Sauce. This was confirmed in a video posted on Twitter Dr. in Geological Sciences, Leda Sanchez.

However, a Chilean geophysicist says that what happened was not an earthquake. Luis Donoso, vice president of the International Association for the Management of Emergencies of Chile, affirms that the "stories are more compatible with sonic outbreak than with earthquake".

Donoso told El País that his conclusions were drawn after hearing the testimonies of people who were in the place of the tremors. Many described it as "a loud noise" followed by a tremor or explosion.

"It struck me that many people commented on the situation and said that it was an earthquake, but they were talking about an explosion at the same time," Donoso said.

The expert said that "when military aircraft maneuvers make and break the sound barrier produce this phenomenon" called sonic boom even if they are 50 kilometers or more away.

Donoso said that "there may be records of the tremor", but it is not easy to determine the origin with the elements that have: "You can not know if it is tectonic or is an aerial phenomenon."

"The contact zones between tectonic plates and neighboring regions are the ones that generate the most earthquakes" and "Uruguay does not have that condition," he said.

The Chilean said that because of the "public alarm" that is generated, sometimes "the authorities are overwhelmed because they have to give a response as fast as possible" and that is when "most likely that answer is incorrect."

The most dangerous in these cases, is that "a psychosis is generated," said Donoso, who stressed the importance of education on the subject to the population and the support that should be provided to people working in the area.

A sonic boom is to the audible component of the shock wave caused by an object when it exceeds the speed Mach 1, of the sound. It is frequently observed in military aircraft, although it can also be caused by civil aircraft, such as the already retired Concorde service. According to Wikipedia, another case in which it may occur is to penetrate a meteorite in the atmosphere at high speed (54 000 km / h) as the case of the impact of meteor in Russia in 2013, which caused a large breakage of crystals with more Of 500 wounded.

The sonic explosion happens because, being the speed of the source near Mach 1, the wave fronts that it generates begin to overlap against one another. If the velocity of the source exceeds the speed of sound, a "cone form" of the waves behind it will occur, and the sound of the explosion is because upon being overcome by the aircraft, the sound barrier breaks out without affecting the molecular structure of the aircraft or air. This last one produces the sound of one or several explosions, something described by several of the witnesses of the phenomenon happened last night in Uruguay.

Donoso was also consulted on whether it could be a tsunami and responded that "without subduction you can not have an earthquake with a focal depth of 550 kilometers."

...but, as always and with everything, Uruguay needs to give the last word :)

FAU on earthquake: there is no "direct relationship with some type of air movement"
The statement discards that the phenomenon is a "sonic boom" as it was said in social networks

The Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) said that the tremor felt Thursday night in the south of the country has "no direct relationship with some kind of air movement."
The clarification comes after social networks speculate that it was a "sonic boom," a phenomenon reproduced by military aircraft when they break the sound barrier.

Several Twitter users pointed out that in addition to the slight tremor they perceived, a strong sound was felt, which for some experts, such as Chilean geophysicist Luis Donoso, are typical characteristics of the sonic boom.

In a press conference this morning, the doctor in Geological Sciences Leda Sánchez, ruled that this was the cause of the tremor and said that the teams recorded an earthquake of 2.9 on the Richter scale with epicenter between Toledo and Las Piedras.

"Given the circulation of rumors and unfounded information about the fact that the past seismic event occurred in our country at night hours yesterday, is directly related to some type of air movement, it is reported that no type of Activity within the area of responsibility under surveillance of the Uruguayan Air Force, "the statement said.

Thanks for the video sToRmR1dR, but I also think is false.

There still isn't any record of this 2.98 magnitude Uruguay earthquake on USGS, Volcano Discovery etc. But it appears they are still collecting data on the event.

seismologist, Leda Sánchez, at a press conference offered from Seat of the Presidency of the country.

So far, and without having processed all the data, Sánchez said that the epicenter is estimated to be located about 20 kilometers north of the capital.

The expert said that the epicenter of the natural phenomenon was close to the surface and clarified that they still lack to collect data from several registry stations in the country and in Brazil so that they allow the experts to make a "better" evaluation of the event.

Yet another very shallow earthquake though! Interesting that the Chilean geophysicist thought it was a "sonic boom" instead of an earthquake. Could it have been another type of 'boom' below the earth's surface?

In case this hasn't come to your attention yet, Ben Davidson, from Suspicious0bservers YT channel has had great success in predicting large (M6+) earthquakes. In the video below he lists 7 M6+ earthquakes from last month that he predicted hours or about a day before they happened.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ye1Jz7Giac&feature=share
In this video you will see some of our most-recent earthquake alerts as they were posted in original form on twitter. Earthquake information comes from the USGS and Princeton University.

(Twitter: Ben@TheRealS0s - You can go find all these predictions and verify yourself!)

Together with Dr. Kongpop U-yen, he's developing an online application which will warn where and when a big earthquake is likely to happen. As I understand the app will soon be available.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/davidson/the-disaster-prediction-app?ref=project_link
GOAL: This App will combine numerous models of disaster precursors to warn of times when large earthquakes are more likely to occur.

WHO: Ben Davidson founded the Mobile Observatory Project [right here on Kickstarter!], SpaceWeatherNews.com, Suspicious0bservers.org and advanced the field of solar-terrestrial physics by demonstrating the sun can trigger earthquakes. Dr. Kongpop U-yen has developed similarly successful models of disaster prediction using space weather and planetary geometry.

WHAT: Ben and Kongpop are teaming up to bring us the Disaster Prediction App. Imagine the event notification functions of current earthquake apps and add the forecast element that you get from a weather app. Global alerts, and eventually, location-based disaster risk scores can be sent to our phones to warn us of times when the earth is unstable.

In addition to earthquakes, this App will send forecasts of tropical storm formation and solar storms that could affect electrical grids, satellites, and transportation and telecommunication.

WHY: We expect that eventually this App will save lives.

I noticed today in the news there were two earthquakes off the Oregon coast, a 4.9 late Sunday and a 4.8 early Monday:

http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2016/11/2_earthquakes_recorded_off_ore.html

I had actually been thinking of visiting Bandon on the Oregon coast today (the one place on the Coast I use to visit with my family about every Winter). A few days ago, I started to read more again about the possible Cascadia quake and about preparedness and that changed that. Also found out there was a 2.4 about 8 miles West of Bandon last Sunday per this link: http://earthquaketrack.com/v/pnw/recent

Earthquakes looking like a sonic boom happen sometimes.
In the South-West of the Alps we had two booms like that years ago, and no plane in sight.
Actually it was a fault which moved a few millimeters inside the mountain.
