Éiriú-Eolas - Breathing Program

The mechanism by which CO2 mitigates hiccups is by stimulating the sympathetic nervous system to keep the airways more open.

CO2 is a chemical indicator of our bodies expending energy. A large increase of this tells our cells there is a large environmental challenge we are facing, which reinforces sympathetic activation. If you were running from a bear, your survival chances increase if your cells use the biproducts of activation to further increase activation in a positive feedback loop. If instead CO2 was a parasympathetic stimulus your body in essence would be hitting the gas and brakes at the same time, which would make you less effective in emergencies and also lead to syndromes of autonomic dysfunction.

Breathing supraphysiological doses of CO2 (eg 3 to 7% CO2 gas mixtures) has been found to induce panic attacks in people, even those without an amygdala (!), and can actually be used to reduce anxiety by way of training increased physiological tolerance to normal levels of CO2, which is lacking in people who have breathing pattern disorders which lean towards hyperventilation and sympathetic activation.

In a sentence, CO2 is a stressor, and in the practice of breathing exercises it acts as a hormetic eustress.
The dose is the poison.
In this study CO2 was found to be a stressor when people breathed a 35% concentration of CO2.
That percentage of CO2 is a stressor, just as low percentages of CO2 (below 6%) is also a stressor.
CO2 is a blood vessel dilator, and increases the use of available oxygen
Those of us using the Samozdrav device to increase our CO2 are doing so because our natural levels are lower that 6-6.5%, mostly due to age.
I do not think EE would increase CO2 levels to the stress level, and an appropriate level of CO2 would not be a stressor.

In an anaesthetized patient the CO2 levels are often made to rise to support a sagging blood pressure - or whenever optimal tissue oxygenation/ perfusion is required (eg intenstinal anastomosis) - conversely, if a patient has a high blood pressure under anaesthesia, when the CO2 levels are dropped, the sympathetic tone is reduced, thus lowering BP.

My strategy to end hiccups is to stimulate the back of my throat with a spatula to induce retching (but not vomiting ... ;-)) - usually ends after two or three goes.

Hi all,
just wanted to share my experiences recently. I have had some pretty intense emotional releases over the last several months, mostly anger and lots of crying. Have also had some pretty earth shattering realisations when it comes to how I was moving through the world. I have definetly experienced some shifts in my day to day. A large part of this is due to the coaching I have recieved from a local woman. I dont think i would have been able to be consistent with EE and process the emotions without an example of how to have a compassionate and loving relationship with myself. I just had no clue what that would look like or be, So im really glad that I can do EE again and especially the Beatha portion.

Just today i woke up with quite a lot of middle back pain. Felt like it came out of nowhere, also weird swelling around my eyes, like my face was inflamed. I was looking into Lousie Hay in regards tot he back pain and she points in the direction of guilt. Seeing as how yesterday i was thinking alot about my past mistakes with friends, the programs ruined all my childhood friendships I think its fairly on the money. So im not doing Beatha tonight to give it some time to work itself out. Overall i feel good because I think i finally understand what the program is. I went back to the 1st page on the thread and started re-reading it all and im having alot of Aha moments. So much value here.

I'm doing the prayer of the soul nightly and my dreams have really kicked off. Quite a bit of variety too from old friends, to different situations. The prayer is also coming to me alot during the day. I find alot of comfort in doing it in my mind and I sing it on the way to work in my car as a morning prayer. Overall i think my abiltiy to actually understand what EE is, and be able to do it has vastly improved. I see how powerful of a program is it now where as before, when i had stuff come up, I ran but didnt connect to dots. Sometimes I wonder if i have bricks for a brain 😄. I am slowly moving forward though and have alot of hope that im moving forward.

Hi, does someone already have the transcript of the program, please, before I engage in doing it myself ?
I'd like to right it down on paper, and I'm almost sure I've seen someone posting it attached on a post, somewhere. I just can't put my hand back on it.
My appreciation

I don't know if there is a transcript. I believe that she would not be very useful and that we just need to practice EE and live it.
Reading the thread helps to understand what is happening and what you are looking for.
Maybe I don't understand your request?

Thanks for replying, I think I've been partly misunderstood.
I'm almost sure I saw someone posting on some thread an attached document of a written version of the program. So, as I've searched but couldn't find it back, I asked if anybody had one or was aware of it.
My intent is to write it down on a notebook, to secure it out of electronical devise.

Depending on the answer I'll do it from listening, but it'd be faster if it already exists somewhere.

Is it me by chance?

Here is a written instruction of the breathing program, point by point, as concise as I could do.
Thank you ELT, I have downloaded Laura's breathing program but it is nice to have written instructions for the sequence of exercises and breath work. Thank you for taking the time to put this in a pdf. My EE practice is best with her voice and meditation but the pdf is a nice little instruction booklet to have in addition. Good job!

Good for you, Kadam303! Just a reminder that, like doing any new practice, there's always going to be a little curve until you get more comfortable and proficient with it, and consistency is key. And do feel free to let us know how its going for you.
yes, i am fully aware , 2/3 inn i felt pain in my bones in my shoulders, on the very top on clavicle, that was strange but went away,
and during the prayer phase while doing pipe breathing, when Laura says to breath until you forget and it happened and it felt nice but lasted shortly. i dont even know if thats "it" but was different.

Work continues, work never ends

and then a phone rang so loud ... :)

just want to say THANK YOU FOTCM for putting this together and i hope i have enough life span to master it to some satisfactory level.
