I've been wanting to share it for a long time. A good website, promptly, almost in real time, introduces readers to the successes of Russia in the economic sphere. When they started, they recalled the words of the late McCain about Russia as a gas station country, and one can also recall Obama, who "tore" the Russian economy into "shreds" with sanctions. Both before and after that, Russia was in the regime of sanctions restrictions, and now this frenzy is only growing, but I will cite two articles with summary, so far preliminary, results for the past 2021.

Achievements of Russian industry in 2021
Let's consider the main quantitative achievements of the Russian industry in 2021. At the same time, it should be understood that the number of indicators suitable for comparison varies by industry: somewhere changes in the accounting system are strongly affected (coal always remains coal, and chemical plant protection products may include a different set of drugs), and somewhere quantitative indicators are not too representative (putting together all items of clothing is strange, but separately - a lot of types).
Unlike previous reviews, the food industry is excluded, which we will consider later as part of the agro-industrial complex (Рекорды российского АПК в 2021 году /).
TEK
Natural gas production reached 763 billion cubic meters, which became a new historical record, surpassing the previous peak of 2019 (739 billion cubic meters).
Coal production amounted to 432 million tons, which is slightly lower than the historical record of 2019 (439.5 million tons), but more than the peak of the Soviet period (425 million tons in 1988). Including coal, 357 million tons were mined, which is slightly inferior to the record of 2018 (359 million tons). At the same time, apparently, the historical record for coking coal was repeated: 99.8 million tons were produced (the peak of modern times was 97 million tons in 2019), the same amount could be produced in 1988 (98.2 million tons were produced in 1987, and in 1988 total coal production increased by 2%).
The output of diesel fuel amounted to 80.3 million tons - this is definitely the best result since 1990, it is estimated to exceed the peaks of the late 80s (70 million tons were produced in 1985, 76.2 million tons in 1990).
The output of motor gasoline amounted to 40.8 million tons — this is the best result in recent history, almost repeating the figure of 1990 (40.9 million tons). It is still far from historical highs, in 1980 production was 47 million tons.
Electricity generation amounted to 1157 billion kWh, which was a new historical maximum (+3.2% to the previous record in 2019). Including record figures achieved at nuclear power plants (222 billion kWh, growth for the eighth year in a row) and hydroelectric power plants (216 billion kWh, growth for the fourth year in a row).
Metallurgy
Steel smelting reached 77 million tons — this is a repeat of the 1991 result (although the current data series is slightly higher than the historical one); the peak of the RSFSR was 94.1 million tons in 1988.
The production of finished rolled steel amounted to 66.4 million tons — this is a repetition of the historical record of the RSFSR in 1988 (according to some data, 66.6 million tons, according to others — 66.4). The repetition of the rolling record with a large backlog in steel indicates a significant qualitative growth of metallurgy.
Chemical industry
Sulfuric acid production reached 14.5 million tons, updating the historical maximum for the fourth year in a row (+8% by 2020); the peak of the RSFSR was 12.9 million tons in 1988.
Ammonia production reached 19.9 million tons, once again updating the historical maximum (+1.5% by 2020), growth for the ninth year in a row.
The production of mineral fertilizers reached 26.3 million tons of active substance - this is another update of the historical maximum (+6% by 2020), growth for the ninth year in a row; the peak of the RSFSR was 19.1 million tons in 1988. By type , the output of fertilizers was:
nitrogen - 11.36 million tons, another historical maximum (+1.5% by 2020), growth for the seventh year in a row;
potash - 10.68 million tons, a new historical maximum (+13% by 2020), growth for the third year in a row;
phosphorous — 4.28 million tons, repetition of the 1991 result, growth for the eighth year in a row.
Plastics production has reached 11.1 million tons — this is another historical maximum (+9% by 2020), continuous growth has been going on since 2009.
The production of paints and varnishes amounted to 1983 thousand tons — this is the best result since 1991, growth for the sixth year in a row.
The production of detergents reached 2,134 thousand tons — this is another historical maximum (+4% by 2020), growth for the ninth year in a row.
The production of synthetic rubber amounted to 1,718 thousand tons — this is the best result since 1992 (+3.5% to the previous peak of 2018); in 1990, 2,158 thousand tons were produced.
The production of chemical fibers amounted to 222 thousand tons — this is the best result since 1994.
Timber industry complex
Plywood production amounted to 4.5 million cubic meters, which was another historical maximum (+6.8% to the previous record in 2020). Since 2010, the decline in plywood output has been observed only once, in 2017. (by 1.9%).
The production of chipboard amounted to 11.42 million cubic meters, which was a new historical maximum (+13% to the previous record in 2018).
The production of wood-fiber boards reached 740 million sq. m., which became a new historical maximum (+7% to the previous record in 2019).
The production of cellulose and wood pulp of all types amounted to 8.83 million tons — this is the best result since 1991 (+1% to the peak of 2020). The production of cellulose in the traditional sense (wood pulp and semi-cellulose) is estimated at 7 million tons. The peak of the RSFSR in 1988 is 8.35 million tons of pulp and, estimated, about 10.5 million tons of pulp with wood pulp.
Paper and cardboard production reached 10.37 million tons, which was another historical maximum (+6.7% to the previous record in 2020). Production growth is recorded for the eighth year in a row; the peak of the RSFSR was 8.58 million tons in 1988.
Building materials
The production of ceramic floor tiles has reached 108 million square meters. m is a new historical maximum (+3% to the previous record of 2018).
Mechanical engineering
The production of metal-cutting machines amounted to 5.5 thousand pieces — this is the best result since 2004.
The production of excavators amounted to 3.4 thousand pieces — this is the best result since 2009, in the first half of the 2010s, production dropped to 2 thousand pieces.
The production of freight cars amounted to 63.1 thousand units. The output was higher only in 2012 and 2018-2019 (the record was 79.7 thousand units in 2019, more details are here).
The production of passenger cars amounted to 1,555 units. The output was higher since the second half of the twentieth century only in 2007-2008 and 2019-2020 . (record — 2,143 pieces in 2008).
The production of refrigerators and freezers amounted to 4.05 million units - this is second only to the peak of 2011-2013 (2012 record - 4.3 million units, the peak of the RSFSR - 3.77 million units in 1990).
The production of washing machines reached 5.58 million units - this is a new historical maximum, surpassing the peak of 1991 (5.54 million units); growth for the sixth year in a row.
Light industry
The production of fabrics amounted to 7.88 billion square meters . m is the best result since 1991 (+6.7% to the peak of 2020, after clarification, the indicator should increase significantly), but it is mainly provided with non-woven materials (6 billion sq. m. m), which have prevailed in the issue since 2011. The peak of the RSFSR was 8.7 billion square meters of fabrics in 1989 with a predominance of cotton (5.8 billion square meters).
Including the production of fabrics from chemical fibers reached 469 million square meters. m is the best result since 1994 (+2% to the previous peak of 2018)
Methodological commentary
To calculate the increase, operational data for 2021 from the Rosstat report "Socio-economic situation of Russia" and updated data for 2020 from Rosstat publications (first of all, the "Russian Statistical Yearbook") were used; they can also be found in the EMISS database. The growth indicators published in the report "Socio-economic situation of Russia" are calculated from the preliminary data of the previous year (a separate database of operational monthly indicators is used, also available on the EMISS — https://www.fedstat.ru/indicator/57783, although with a significant delay).
https://sdelanounas.ru/blogs/145880/Records of the Russian agro-industrial complex in 2021
The Russian agro-industrial complex (agriculture + food industry) in 2021, as well as industry, was marked by a number of high quantitative achievements. Let's consider the main ones.
Crop production
The grain harvest amounted to 121.3 million tons — this is the fifth result in history after the indicators of 2017, 2020, 1978 and 1973 (a record of 135.5 million tons in 2017).
The wheat harvest amounted to 76 million tons — this is the third result in history, second only to the record of 2017 and 2020. (86 million tons each).
The corn harvest amounted to 15.2 million tons — this is the second result in history, only slightly inferior to the record of 2016 (15.3 million tons).
The harvest of legumes amounted to 3.84 million tons — this is the second result for modern Russia (maximum - 4.26 million tons in 2017); in the Soviet period, since the mid-60s, harvests usually exceeded 4 million tons.
The sunflower harvest amounted to 15.66 million tons — this is a new historical maximum, surpassing the record of 2019 (15.38 million tons).
The soybean harvest amounted to 4.66 million tons — this is another historical maximum, surpassing the record of 2019. (4.36 million tons); over the past 24 years, the soybean harvest has been reduced only 4 times.
The rapeseed harvest amounted to 2.79 million tons - for the fifth year in a row, updating the historical maximum, during this time the fees increased 2.8 times.
The tomato harvest amounted to 3.06 million tons - this is definitely the best result for modern Russia, and most likely for all time: so, in 1987, on average, from the point of view of vegetable harvest, 1.48 million tons of tomatoes were obtained in agricultural enterprises, and the role of subsidiary farms in this segment was not too large then.
The melon harvest amounted to 1.9 million tons — this is the second result in history, second only to the record of 2018. (1.97 million tons); for the Soviet period, data are available only for some years, but their value (maximum - 1.3 million tons in 1985) does not give grounds to assume record figures.
In 2021, a record harvest of fruits and berries was harvested in Russia — about 4.6 million tons (Rosstat published data only on fruits and berries, without grapes, according to late reports of the Ministry of Agriculture, the grape harvest was expected at the level of 2020 — 680 thousand tons, we used a slightly lower estimate - 650 thousand tons). The record of the RSFSR - 3.97 million tons in 1983, however, the Crimea factor has a significant influence here. If Crimea is excluded from the current indicators, then the harvest in 2021 will decrease to about 4.3 million tons — and it will still be a record. If we take into account the Crimea in the indicators of the Soviet period, then the harvest of 2021 it will be about the third in history, definitely inferior to the peak of 1983-1984 (so, in 1990, 501 thousand tons of fruit were harvested in the Crimea — after a large-scale cutting of vineyards and in the conditions of the beginning general crisis).
Animal husbandry
The number of pigs at the end of 2021 reached 26.2 million heads — this is the maximum since 1994, continuous growth has been recorded since 2011.
New historical records have been achieved in meat production. Rosstat has not yet published data on the slaughter weight, which usually includes final statistics, but the main results can be judged now.
Livestock and poultry production in live weight increased by 0.3%. This means that the historical record of meat production in 2020 — 11.2 million tons - has improved a little more. The peak of the RSFSR — 10.1 million tons in 1989 and 1990 increased by 0.4%., another 0.2 million tons were produced then by Crimea.
Pork production in live weight increased by 0.4%. This means that the historical record of 2020 — 4.28 million tons - has improved a little more, production has been continuously growing since 2006. The peak of the RSFSR was 3.5 million tons in 1989 .
Poultry production for slaughter in live weight remained at the level of 2020. Accordingly, the production of poultry meat also remained at a record level in 2019-2020. (5,015 million tons). The peak of the RSFSR was 1.83 million tons in 1989 .
Milk yield amounted to 32.3 million tons — this is a repetition of the best indicator for the last 18 years in 2009; the growth is recorded for the fifth year in a row, before that a steady positive dynamics in the modern period was observed only in 2006-2009.
Egg production amounted to 44.9 billion eggs — for the fourth year in a row, production is at the maximum level for modern Russia. In 1992, without Crimea, we had 42.9 billion units, Crimea in 1990 gave 1.1 billion, but then production declined. The peak of the Soviet period was 49.1 billion units in 1988, and taking into account the Crimea, about 50.5 billion.
Food industry
The production of sausage products amounted to 2408 thousand tons — this is a new historical maximum: the current grouping, used since 2017, is about 200 thousand tons less than the previous one, according to which the peak was 2533 thousand tons in 2012.
Cheese production (without cheese products) amounted to 602 thousand tons — this is another historical maximum, growth for the eighth year in a row; the peak of the RSFSR was 460 thousand tons in 1989.
The production of cereals amounted to 1,606 thousand tons — this is the best result since 1994; in 1986, production reached 3.1 million tons.
The production of processed and canned potatoes reached 377 thousand tons — this is another historical record: until the 2010s, the product was not even included in the expanded list of important types of food products, and in 2010 the output was only 119 thousand tons.
The production of compound feeds amounted to 32.1 million tons — this is the best result since 1992, continuous growth has been going on since 2001; in 1990, production was 41 million tons.
The indicators for 2021 are based on Rosstat publications: electronic bulletins on the state of agriculture — Бюллетени о состоянии сельского хозяйства (электронные версии), agricultural statistics section — https://rosstat.gov.ru/enterprise_economy, report "Socio-economic situation of Russia" —https://rosstat.gov.ru/compendium/document/50801 et al .
