Hagar is VERY sick

To a full recovery for Hagar and may you find the cause of his demise so it does not reoccur.

Thanks Bluestar! What caused the stones to form is still undetermined. Evidently some goats just get them, but when a male has been neutered young (like Hagar) the urethra doesn't grow large enough to pass them and they get stuck at the curve.

The surgery should (hopefully) prevent any further problems as females rarely have difficulties passing small stones. :)

Why is his tail wrapped up? (just curious)

I'm not sure...I guess I kinda assumed it was to keep it out of the way since his new pee pee hole is right below his rectum.
I'll ask the tech when s/he calls this afternoon.

Just got Hagar's afternoon report...he's doing GREAT! They've pinched off the temp tube a couple of times and urine is coming out the new urethra which is VERY VERY good news! :D :D :D :D

They will pinch it off for longer and longer periods of time over the weekend, until they're sure they've got a steady stream out the new exit. If he keeps progressing as quickly as he is, we might be able to go get him on Monday or Tuesday. :D

I found out that they taped up his tail to prevent the bristly hair from irritating the surgery site. The hair on his tail is really stiff....they think of everything :D

Hi Guardian
I am so glad to hear that all is going well for Hagar.

Thanks Evey...and MUCH thanks to everyone for their support while I was wig'in!

When something happens to one of my babies, once I've done everything I can...I turn into a big emotional puddle. It REALLY does help to have folks to talk to... other than meatspace family members who are equally upset and ragged.

Oh that's so cute!!! Hagar and Hilda have red collars too :)

This morning's Hagar report was excellent, he's playing and acting like nothing is wrong....we might be able to pick him up Monday :)
