Iodine and Potassium Iodide

It might have been related to the WPWS within her context too: COVID-19 post era, thyroid function unknown. It might have been too much without the aid of selenium. We'll see what further tests reveal. Overall, it was good to know about the WPWS, you don't want to miss that diagnosis if possible.

Yeah and as I said cofactors didn't cross my mind. Selenium is the number one most important. She doesn't want to do the iodine now. Maybe when we get her thyroid results. Still we applied too much. I wasn't thinking at all. A lesson for me and maybe this will help others too.

It's almost been a week since I double my dose of Lugol's 5% to 2 drops. The previous week with 1 drop and co-factors I was feeling tired in the afternoon. Possible bromide detox reaction? So I decided to double and see what would happen. Tuesday I doubled from 1 to 2 and I felt great all day; no energy crash.

Now for some reason I don't get why, I decided to remove tyrosine on Wednesday so see what would happen. Well by late afternoon I my back was sore, feeling kinda sluggish, I figured I was a herx or detox reaction. When I got home from work I salt loaded, 1/2 teaspoon in a half cup warm water followed by 16oz filtered water. I had a shower and did the same salt load again; it was about a half hour later. Also took 2 grams liposomal vitamin c.

I took a two hour drive. 45 minutes in I was feeling much much better. When I got home I salt loaded 1/2 tsp twice more, had a meal and went to bed.

The next day didn't take Iodine, I decided to begin pulsing but I did pain a lesion on my face with a couple drops. I had been painting for about 5 days. This is the first time I noticed a reaction - I thought it interesting that I didn't feel it while taking Lugol's internally but maybe my body had become saturated enough to start showing detox symptoms. I did salt load and take co-factors.

That night I was able to peel dry skin away from the area with the lesion. Haven't applied since. Gunna wait week, shave and have a good look at it.

That brings us to yesterday. I didn't take Iodine in any form I took co-factors, salt load (1 tsp), vitamin c. I didn't feel well all day. Made sure to get the proper amount of water for my bodyweight.

Today I feel much better however I have had diarrhea since about Tuesday. I switched from ascorbic acid powder to liposomal vitamin c. I have narrowed possible causes down to AlA, NAC and/milk thistle - not convinced it's these three because I have take AlA for years and did one bottle of NAC 2400 mg a day a couple years ago because of COVID. It could be milk thistle, my caps are 1000mg. Other potential causes are magnesium glycinate - took this all week last week with no problem. SAMe which I had been taking for about two weeks, no diarrhea until the start of this week.

I'm leaning towards magnesium so I'm eliminating that and I'm gunna stop SAMe tomorrow, wait a couple days see if my stool returns to normal. If not I will eliminate the liver support and add things back in to see if I get a reaction. I will also try taking the magnesium with food instead of an empty stomach.

Funny when I was taking magnesium orally along with transdermal magnesium (50g) there was no diarrhea. Not sure if there's a connection I see that salt water can cause diarrhea as well. If none of this works I'll get rid of the co-factors, maybe see a doctor. Iay also just be drinking more water than my kidneys can eliminate. Maybe I better off stopping everything and staying to add to add things back slowly.

I won't start iodine again until the diarrhea is resolved and I've finish this thread. Currently on page 73.

I'm also wondering if I should write a letter for my mom to give to the cardiologist explaining that there may be a connection between her episode and the transdermal iodine application. I won't be at the appointment. Then again is may be of no use anyway.

This study hasn't dealt specifically with oleic acid, but they used lard, which has a lot of oleic acid. And in the study, the high-fat lard diet caused decreased thyroid uptake of iodine. Now, they are presenting it as a bad thing, which it probably is if you have a low intake of iodine, but for the iodine protocol it might be a good thing, for protection of thyroid of excess iodine.

Some additional info here: https://journals.physiology.org/doi/abs/10.1152/ajplegacy.1962.202.2.325

And here:

The conversion ratios and the T/S ratios would seem to suggest that the fat-deficient animals had a greater capacity for accumulating radioiodine and converting it to thyroxine. However, in view of the data on PBI131 and thyroid I131 uptake, one must conclude that the difference seen in these ratios is due to a lower total serum I131 in the fat-deficient animals. This in turn suggests that in these animals there is a greater loss of the injected iodine by way of the alimentary canal, urinary tract, or other outlet.

As a reminder, Sott Media had created this video which summarises the main information in this thread and the Lugol protocol:

Unfortunately the summary is lacking important information such as the half life of bromide and dealing with heavy metal detox. This general protocol doesn't work well for everyone and in my opinion is potentially dangerous because of that.

I'm currently on page 94 of the thread. This week has been interesting as well as frightening.

I determined that indeed it was magnesium giving me diarrhea so I hadn't taken it for a couple days. On Monday I wasn't feeling 100% normal but the protocol in the video says pulse for two days, it been three so I thought I'd give one drop a shot - 1 drop never gave me side effects aside from afternoon sleepiness.

Not this time. I was tired through the day and by Tuesday morning had a sore throat and detox or cold symptoms. The type where it feels like your body and mind is pulsing in and out of ... I'm not sure how to describe it, not in and out of reality either, more like pulsing in and out of really sleepy energy.

Obviously I quit the iodine and continued with co-factors including tyrosine. The before I wondered if stopping tyrosine was the cause of my negative symptoms appearing but this week I think tyrosine maybe partly be the cause.

Yesterday I realized that my sore throat was actually a slight swelling of my upper thyroid. Worrisome to say the least. My body however feels a lot less as though I have a cold/flu. So I looked back in Brownstein's book and found that enlarged thyroid can be a symptom of bromide detox.

So I've got two options if I give Iodine the benefit of the doubt.

Option 1: enlarged thyroid due to bromide detox
Option 2: Tyrosine is triggering the production of too much thyroid hormone causing hyperthyroidal goiter.

I'm halting tyrosine see if the swelling shrinks.

Despite the magnesium giving me diarrhea, I am slowly introducing it back into my supplementation. I will only take one 225mg cap at night while increasing my transdermal application 2.5 times providing roughly 130mg of magnesium. This spray has MSM as well which may help with heavy metal mobilization. I've ordered to cilantro and chlorella drops so that I can start chelating and I'm waiting on a bottle of metal-free. From what I've read, these are better options than synthetic chelators and mobilizers.

Now what's weird is that years ago I read on SOTT about taking sulphur crystals to eliminate heavy metals. I'm either not remembering correctly or not remembering everything because the bit I"ve read about heavy metal detox in this thread says that sulphur is a mobilizer like iodine that can create negative effects when not used along with a chelator. I digress...

I will continue with selenium, salt water, vitamin C, magnesium, omega 3, vitamin D, ALA, Lion's Mane, CoQ10 milk thistle, SAMe and a few other items from my normal daily regimen. I'm dropping the other cofactors including B2 and B3 to see how I feel without them.

Someone who experienced thyroid swelling in said it went away in 9 days. I'm hoping mine is resolved by next week... It's not visible, only apparent to touch and swallowing.

Once it has resolved I'll be waiting minimum 12 days from Monday before starting Iodine again and at half the dose (2.5%) I may even go for heel dosing instead. I may even say fugget about it. I felt a heck of a lot better before starting Iodine.

I have to add that selenium was important used in conjunction with the crystalline sulphur to deal with the heavy metals, perhaps it was mercury specifically. This was 8 - 10 years ago. I ate small cold water fish and hard boiled eggs for lunch a couple times a week for that purpose.

I don't have much luck with the SOTT search function so I'm not able to find the article at this moment.

I will be reading the HM detox protocol thread (and others, glycine etc) once I'm through reading this one.

It looks like the swelling is the cervical lymph node or close to it. The symptoms are similar to a swollen thyroid and I probably confused the thyroid gland itself for the thyroid cartilage of the larynx.

Gunna have to read up on HM detox and start that before getting back on the iodine.

As you have been able to experience, whether it is Lugol or other protocols, the difficulty is to find your own dose of benefits / bad effects over time.

When I decided to start taking Lugol's again, the little things that helped me, in addition to the co-factors, were to keep well hydrated throughout the day, to mix the drop(s) of Lugol's in an increasing quantity of water to avoid that sensation of the throat 'corroding' as much as possible.

Not to take the Lugol's on an empty stomach, and for oral hygiene, and at the same time to tell my body what's going to happen to it, before swallowing the mixture I gargle with it.

Otherwise, during this break, you can take enough vitamin C to reboost your immune system.

And finally, if Lugol's really doesn't suit you, you can switch to the iodoral stuff, which I haven't used myself.

Enjoy your readings and experimentations.

My point is that the video may be okay for someone like you or I who has access to this forum and the drive to sort things out. It's not great advice for the general public and it has to potential to hurt people, for instance redistributing heavy metals to other parts the body like the brain which would exacerbate problems people are trying to solve.
