Poland is too little and weak to be independent at that geopolitical location

Our enemies was thinking the same way for about 1200 years...

And they have generally been correct. For all of it's history, Poland has spent very little time independent.

Goodbye. Go to learn Polish history. I suggest Jasienicy "Polska Piastów" for a starter.

Here's an al Jazeera programme called "The Listening Post" with its supposed unbiased take on the east-west media dichotomy involving Ukraine. It also covers the station's journalists being held in Egyptian jails, media trolls, and a web video critique on Turkey's media via Twitter. I watch this & wonder where the REAL journalists have gone.

Note: this video contains graphic footage of Liz Wahl (I typed in her surname & the predictive/auto-correct thingy kicked in!)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KtYLqUf1Uzo

Jovanovski & Lavelle at least spoke up for the facts (edited heavily in this video) unlike Ostrovsky (from Vice news, whoever the heck they are) bleh.

That "USA into radioactive ash" comment did make me chuckle, the presenter just got carried away - or had some insider info - & still got carried away. The end of the piece on comments sections (which they seemed to spend most time on) made me think of the animation "Persepolis."

Hi H-kqge,

That "USA into radioactive ash" comment did make me chuckle, the presenter just got carried away - or had some insider info - & still got carried away

Presenters name is Dmitry Kiselyov. He is getting carried away every single Sunday evening, IMO. Don't know wether you understand Russian... Dmitry has its own tv show called Vesti Nedeli/news of the week. You could watch them if you wish. The nearest broadcast will be tomorrow 20.00 (Moscow time).

I don't get it, can 'our government' sign this agreement whithout referendum?

They can do what they want since they are an unelected gang of US and EU puppets mixed with right wing nut jobs. They were not elected by the Ukrainian people and therefore they do not need to consult the Ukrainian people when making decisions about the Ukrainian people's future. See?

Speaking of history, Yatsenyuk doesn't seem to know much about history of Balkan. :)

GlobalReserch has published an interesting article on Putin and the Ukraine Crises:
The Ukraine Crisis and Vladimir Putin: A New Financial System Free from Wall Street and the City of London?
_http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-ukraine-crisis-and-vladimir-putin-a-new-financial-system-free-from-wall-street-and-the-city-of-london/5374785

The Ukrainian crisis? It is basically the opposite of what the media and politicians keep repeating both in the US and Europe. They say that the so-called International community have isolated Russia and Vladimir Putin.

In fact it is the real sponsors of the coup d’état and the violence in Ukraine who are isolated not only morally but also strategically.

And it is Putin, the first leader who resisted and defeated the strategy of world domination, who is enjoying the enthusiastic support of his people and the growing admiration of the world. The well financed media and politicians do not want to hear this, but this is the reality. Without exaggeration, one can compare this resistance to that against Napoleon and Hitler…

Only few know precisely how dangerous the situation has been. How close to a real war.

The incompetent representatives of the ‘international community’ lost any sense of reality and deployed the weapons of social destabilization, armed insurrection, assassination by snipers, a fascist March on Kiev reminiscent of Mussolini’s March on Rome, targeting of the Russian population.

They intended to give Russia the Libya treatment, and they did not make a secret of it.

After the assurances given by George H W Bush to Mikhail Gorbachev that NATO couldn’t be used for a push toward East, successive US governments did exactly that. Their objective is to surround Russia. With the smiling hypocrisy of hyenas, they made clear that there was no alternative but to surrender to the military power and propaganda capabilities of NATO.

No compromise, no negotiations. Or better when negotiations took place like on Feb 21, the neo-Nazi gangs in Kiev were incited to escalate the armed violence and take over the Parliament and Government buildings, beating and intimidating whoever did not agree.

The Western “diplomats” immediately recognized the neo-Nazi coup d’état as the legitimate government. Yatsenyuk, the candidate of Victoria Nuland, declared himself Prime Minister while members of the parliament were brutally beaten in the street, their houses invaded and violated, their families terrorized… to ensure their support for the democratic process…

These criminal politicians even pushed the situation close to a real nuclear war. Putin made clear that Russia — which had lost a large percentage of its population in the war against Nazism and accepted to see Moscow in flames in order to defeat the superior forces of Napoleon — was not going to surrender. That moment was more dangerous than the 1962 Cuban missile crisis. Putin called their bluff… Then, while the Crimean (and not only Crimean) population asked for protection against the NATO-supported armed gangs, the propaganda machine went into full speed in the West, but it was too late. In this sense Putin not only saved Russia, but gave a chance to the whole of Europe… like in WWII

The fascist armed insurrection and the Kiev coup were not simply a war against Russia, they were also a war against Europe. Not the EU bureaucracy in Brussels, whose loyalty lies with the big financial institutions, but the Europe of the various countries reduced to misery and despair by austerity measures and the economic looting of Wall Street and the city of London.

Ukraine has been destabilized in order to make sure that Europe would be in a perennial war with Russia.

In fact, both, the interests of Europe and that of Russia, lie in a common economic plan for the development of the whole area. This is what was proposed by Putin and by several leaders such as former German chancellors Helmut Kohl and Gerhard Schroeder. This is exactly what had to be prevented with the Victoria Nuland $5 billion ‘to help democracy.’ And now, despite all the noises and rhetoric, this is the most obvious direction to go.

The most important point to understand is that this war and looting policy is not in the interest of the Europeans or even of the Americans.

This is the big secret that now cannot be covered anymore. The governments of the US and the European countries are NOT independent entities, they are not sovereign. They do not have the will or even the ability to act on behalf of their people. They are controlled by powerful banking interests. They have been taken over by two financial centers that do not care for the real economy. They pursue only speculation and looting.

In response on March 4th the economic adviser to Putin, Sergey Glazyev declared openly that if the financial vultures persisted, Russia would create on the spot an independent financial system which is separate from that of the US Dollar.

Glazyev explained to the vampires:

‘We have wonderful economic and trade relations with our Southern and Eastern partners. We will find a way not just to eliminate our dependence on the US but also profit from these sanctions….If sanctions are applied against Russia’s state structures we will have to move into other currencies and create our own settlement system. We will be forced to recognize the impossibility of repayment of the loans that the US banks gave to Russian state structures. Indeed, sanctions are a double-edged weapon, and if the US chooses to freeze our assets, then our equities and liabilities in dollars will also be frozen…’

This strategy is known as the Financial Nuclear Option. It could lead to the end of the predatory looting system of Wall Street.

The ‘Southern and Eastern partners’ Glazyev is talking about are clearly the members of the BRICS, Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, the sane part of the world economy, the future.

And it is exactly what the official spokesman of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov indicated in an interview to the BBC:

“Sanctions against Russia could be the final trigger that will force many countries to create a new independent financial system based on the real economy. The world is changing rapidly. How many civilizations grew and died in the course of history? Who will be able to resist the pressure of dying systems and indicate to the people the road toward the future?”

The possibility of a new financial system independent from the collapsing dollar empire, as consequence of anti Russia sanctions was also emphasized by an authoritative the Russian media including RT. (See:http://rt.com/op-edge/russia-switches-to-brics-sanctions-357/)

…Western sanctions might push Russia to deepen cooperation with BRICS states, in particular, to strengthen its ties with China, which will possibly turn out to be a big catastrophe for the US and the EU some time later.

On March 18, the spokesperson for the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, stated that Russia would switch to new partners in case of economic sanctions being imposed by the European Union and the United States. He highlighted that the modern world isn’t unipolar and Russia has strong ties with other states as well, though Russia wants to remain in good relations with its Western partners, especially with the EU due to the volume of trade and joint projects.

Those “new partners” are not really new since Russia has been closely interconnected with them for almost 13 years. This is all about the so-called BRICS organization, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. BRICS represents 42 percent of the world’s population and about a quarter of the world’s economy, which means that this bloc of states is an important global actor.

The BRICS countries are like-minded in regard to supporting the principles of international law, the central role of the UN Security Council and the principles of the non-use of force in international relations; this is why they are so actively performing in the sphere of settling regional conflicts. However, the cooperation between Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa goes beyond political aspects and is also demonstrated by dynamic trade and multiple projects in different areas.

Today, in total, there are more than 20 formats of cooperation within the BRICS which are being developing. For example, in February the member-states came to an agreement about 11 possible projects of scientific and technical cooperation, from aeronautics to bio- and nanotechnology.

In order to modernize the global economic system, at the center of which stand the US and the EU, the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa have created the BRICS Stock Alliance and are creating their own development bank to finance large infrastructure projects. On the whole, despite fierce criticism of BRICS as an organization with no future, it is developing and increasing cooperation with its members and, in fact, BRICS is showing pretty good results.

With the suspension of Russia’s participation in G8 and the strengthening of economic sanctions against Russia, specific industries may be targeted, including limits on imported commodities.

While the West seeks to hit Russia hard, it is important to notice that Russia is ready to switch to other markets, including BRICS, with a view to expanding its trade.

I didn't make myself clear. I meant, if any country (in this case Ukraine) sign such agreement, without referendum been made according to the law. And can EU, according to the law, sign such agreement with a country without referendum been made in this country in order to see how much people of this country want so, at least to some extent.(of course the data would be falsified )
I fully understand that the current government of Ukraine is illegitimate. (That's why i put 'our government' in quotes) It means that any decision they make - would be illegitimate. They say that they were elected by the people of Maidan, but what percentage of the population of Ukraine are the people that were in the Maidan. When i was there - there were maximum few thousands of people. (It was 2 days before the 18th of February, before so-called 'cleaning up operation' by Berkut of the Maidan began) Even if there were 1 million of people, and if 35millions of the 45 million of Ukraine population vote, it is far away from majority.

I never followed what happened in Georgia back in 2008, but I see the same culprits were up to their same tricks. Thanks for posting that tidbit, ST. I'm happy to see someone is standing up against them.

There were war crimes by Georgian forces on russian population in South Ossetia when they captured capital, but as usual the westen media was demonazing russian forces and saying that they commited genocide when in fact it was other way around:

BBC describes evidence of Georgian war crimes in South Ossetia
By Simon Whelan
10 November 2008

The British Broadcasting Corporation is the first foreign news agency to be granted unrestricted access to the breakaway Georgian republic of South Ossetia since Georgian forces attacked the capital Tskhinvali. Journalists working for the BBC have unearthed evidence of Georgian war crimes against South Ossetian civilians.

The indiscriminate use of force is a clear and serious violation of the Geneva Convention and can constitute a war crime.

The report is crucial, asserted BBC journalist Tim Whewell, because the South Ossetian version of events "has barely been heard in the west". Such ignorance was created by the delibrately misleading coverage of western media outlets and the anti-Russian bias promoted by western governments, especially those in Washington and London. Consequently many people wrongly believe that Russia precipitated the conflict by invading Georgia.

The stubborn fact remains that it was Georgian military forces, no doubt following consultation with American military "advisers", who bombarded South Ossetia's small town capital Tskhinvali. At the time very few journalists, most notably Thomas de Waal, were prepared to tell the truth about Georgian aggression.

After consulting with Washington, the Saakashvili administration in Tbilisi attempted to take back the region whilst the world's attention was focused upon the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. At approximately 23.30 local time on August 7, the Geogian military mounted an exceptionally heavy artillery attack on Tskhinvali. By the next morning, such was the devastation wrought that one journalist described the town as resembling Swiss cheese.

Moscow responded rapidly by advancing through the Roki Tunnel, which links South Ossetia with North Ossetia in Russia, crushing Georgian forces within a couple of days. Since the outbreak of hostilities, accusations of war crimes have flown between the two sides. Saakashvili employed an American PR company to amplify his claims of Russian atrocities.

Eyewitnesses accounts collected by the BBC describe how, upon entering Tshkinvalli, Georgian forces fired directly and repeatedly upon civilians and civilian targets. Those who tried to flee the onslaught were, according to witnesses, fired upon indiscriminately.

"What is striking," said Whewell, "is how much destruction the Georgians inflicted in just a couple of days, and destruction mainly of ordinary homes. For the Ossetians, that constitutes a crime against humanity that the world has closed its eyes to."

The evidence produced by the BBC corroroborates initial research conducted by Human Rights Watch (HRW), who also detailed the targetting of civilian targets by the Georgian military.

In additon to gathering first hand acounts of the suffering of South Ossetians, the BBC journalists also gathered evidence of the systematic destruction of ethnic Georgian villages within South Ossetia. Homes within these villages, claimed the BBC, were initially burned down by South Ossetian militia and then later bulldozed. Contrary to accusations from Tbilisi, the BBC did not find evidence of ethnic Georgians being killed by Russian troops.

Taya Sitnik, mother of Georgy Tadtayev, told the BBC how her son, a 21-year-old dental student, was killed by Georgian soldiers. Tadtayev bled to death when he suffered a major laceration to his throat when shrapnel from a Georgian missile struck him. Mrs Sitnik told how a Georgian tank, positioned only yards from her home, fired repeatedly into the block of flats where she lived.

The BBC reported that extensive damage to the five storey block was consistant with Sitnik's account. She recounted how together with her son they had watched television just prior to the Georgian attack. "They started firing not from rifles, but with heavy weapons. Shells were exploding. We jumped up straight away, switched off the lights and ran down to the cellar. And we sat here on boxes. We thought it would end, but the firing got heavier and heavier."

Sitnik continued, "They went on firing all the next day (August 8) without stopping. At some point there was pause, and we saw Georgian soldiers going along the street in their NATO uniforms. Then they started firing again, even more heavily. The Grad rockets were coming over all the time". (The Grad missile is a notoriously inaccurate multiple rocket launcher and derives from the Russian Katyusha rocket system. The firing of multiple Grad rockets creates huge indiscriminate devastation and an incredible and terrifying din).

Neighbours of Sitnik described how another resident of their block of flats, Khazbi Gagloyev, perished from wounds received during the Georgian onslaught.

A doctor at Tskhinvali's hospital, Marina Kochieva, told the BBC's reporters how she was caught in the crosshairs of a Georgian tank when, together with three relatives, as she tried to escape from the town on August 9. Kochieva claimed a tank fired on their car and two other vehicles, forcing them off the road. The doctor was adamant that the Georgians continued to fire on them even as they fled the scene. She showed the BBC the burnt out shell of her car by the side of the ring road. The wreckage was riddled with bullet holes and there was a large hole in the front passenger door where a tank missile had hit.

Dr Kochieva told how a nurse employed at her hospital was killed when she attempted to flee Tskhinvali under similar circumstances. The doctor claimed a further 18 burnt out vehicles were abandoned by the ring road on August 13.

Whilst the initail claims of 1,500 dead South Ossetians by Moscow has since been discredited, the Russian proscecutors office is investigating approximately 300 possible deaths during the invasion by Georgia. Human Rights Watch estimates are similar, but it says that a number of these might be Ossetian militia. Such numbers represent roughly one percent of the population of Tskhinvali.

Alison Gill, a director at HRW offices in Moscow, stated, "We're very concerned at the use of indiscriminate force by the Georgian military in Tskhinvali."

She described the South Ossetian capital as densely populated and explained how tank shells and Grad rockets would reek havoc. "Grad rockets cannot be used in densely populated areas because they cannot be precisely targetted, and as such they are inherently indiscriminate."

The barbarism unleashed upon the population of Tskhinvali seems to have been meant either to kill and maim as many South Ossetians as possible and/or to drive them over the border into the Russian North Ossetian region.

Human Rights Watch were on the ground in South Ossetia only a couple of days after Georgian troops were routed by their Russian counterparts. Gill corroborated some of the stories told by residents to the BBC stating that "we gained evidence and witness testimony of Grad rocket attacks and tank attacks on apartment buildings, including tank attacks that shot at the basement level. And basements are typically areas where civilians will hide for their own protection".

As yet HRW refuse to state categorically that the Georgian army delibrately shot Ossetian civilians and instead speak of the "possible" targeting of civilians.

President Mikhail Saakashvili stated, "We strongly deny any accusation of war crimes". At the time of the attack Tbilisi claimed force was required to "restore constituional order".

But Whewell has followed up his report with an interview with ex-British army officer Ryan Grist, who was the senior Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) representative in Georgia when the war broke out.

Gist made clear, contrary to the media's initial presentation of events, that the OSCE were aware that Georgia was responsible for the war.

"It was clear to me that the [Georgian] attack was completely indiscriminate and disproportionate to any, if indeed there had been any, provocation," Gist stated.

It was clear on the ground that "something was brewing" Gist said, citing an artillery attack by Georgia seven weeks before its invasion as "a serious escalation" and had reported this "up the line", he said.

History shows us that Poland was not able to create a strong state alone, and lack of effective cooperation and seeking alliances in the right place, meant that Poland was threw to be devoured.

I would not agree because it was not that simple. It had politicaly strong country(at least when the formal history goes) in certain periods like with kings Bolesław III and Casimir III in medieval ages and others like Ludovic Angevin(Louis I) who ruled Poland and Hungary and Croatia, but you are right in his case that it was not created by Polish but was foreign dynasty. It was independent much of it s history and in the end of 14 century it created Polish–Lithuanian union which was territorialy big and it s Jagiellon dynasty in one period had control over Bohemia and Hungary, Croatia and Ukraine, so it was in no way weak but strong. In the beginning of 17 century it also conquered Moscow. Under Jan III Sobieski in 1683 Polish forces played a major part in relieving Vienna of a Turkish siege which was being conducted by Kara Mustafa in hope of eventually marching his troops further into Europe to spread Islam. Sobieski's reign marked the end of the nation's golden-era. Soon, finding itself subjected to almost constant warfare and suffering enormous population losses as well as massive damage to its economy, the Commonwealth fell into decline. The government became ineffective as a result of large scale internal conflicts thanks to high nobility and weak kings from saxon dynasty.

So when the first partition came it could really not do anything weaken like that and sourranded by three empires - Habsburgs, Russia and Prussia, it had nothing to do with alliances because those countries then were it s neighbours so it was naturaly area to which they wanted to expand seeing easy prey, it was more matter of being in the wrong place at wrong time, and no country could go against three big empires. Only France was sympathetic but France had it s colonial struggle with Britain that was also Habsburg ally, so even if it helped little it could do against mentioned trio plus Britain so it was evading any alliance with Poles. That is why Napoleon gave them Duchy of Warsaw because they wanted country back(and he needed troops which he got that way knowing their disdain against trio that were his enemies) and many Poles joined his troops and formed the largest foreign contingent in his invasion of Russia. Russia was saved by winter and scorched earth tactics and we know the rest.

Today it is different and no smaller country can stand alone so based on that history and soviet period they prefer west, living in the past and I think little can be done in this sense until collapse comes and they see that Russia is the best option, but with psychopathy the problem is with seeing.

Referendum is needed only for "full" EU membership at the end - when it's all over. This is just a first step (some kind of contract) towards that goal. And yes usurpation is how things are done in EU - without peoples' consent. It seems to me that many people hope that, instead of Jesus, democracy will save us all!

Oh come on! Democracy is fairytale! :deadhorse:
