server Issues / Can't access SOTT

I'm still getting the ASUS login screen as well. Interesting, this morning my Internet provider Time Warner cable was down for a few hours as well. So I had no Internet at all. Odd "coincidence".
Ah, same thing here for the latter half of Tuesday, August 26. I checked, and the modem had an assigned WAN IP Address to the Time Warner cable network, with IPv4 DNS Servers. I could ping those servers, but beyond that there was no internet connectivity at all, every site including Google was "unable to connect to the internet"...

What I found most odd was the sporadic manner of it; ping tests in terminal and sites wouldn't load at all, yet Skype still worked (sometimes)...?

Time Warner Cable: service 'largely restored' after widespread outages

I've got the ASUS issue as well. The lack of SOTT for 48 hours or more for me, is like no tobacco within the same period. Grrr.

Interestingly enough, now FDC's control panel is down. So I can't even check my ticket!

I think I'm going to start shopping for a new server.

Sounds like the best thing to do. IMO this is a blatant attack on SOTT since so many readers openly share & discuss the most important global topics. With consistent citing of credible sources from the group, I can only see this as a worthy attack. Still a dumb move though, we'll just redouble our efforts! Viva la SOTT!!! :cool2:

Wasn't sure where to post this, but I'm getting errors trying to access SOTT.net. Is there an attack, or just gremlins?

So frustrating! :curse:

Maybe if you showed the company Sott.net's traffic information and mentioned how an article about their exceptionally poor customer service and response times could really hurt their business you would get some better service from them. Sounds like something to consider doing anyway.

I reckon we must be ruffling some feathers or rattling some bushes.

When we finally get Sott.net back up we should spin the downtime that way.

Port problem?

Do you have access to the FTP Scottie?

The only port I can get to work is for SSH, but when the iKVM screen is showing, the normal SSH port doesn't work, and the default port of 22 is open (it's not normally). When I try to log in, it's very obvious that I'm not logging in to the SOTT server, but something else.

That's using SOTT's IP address, not the domain name.

It's possible there is some malware on the server that kicks in and redirects everything seamlessly, and changes all ports and everything a few minutes after boot, but this seems less likely than a routing issue.

So the IP does not point to our server. I tried to login with admin/admin in the Asus console with no luck.

No member in the vicinity of the hosting company?

Thread merged.

Scottie, isn't possible to configure CloudFlare's to systematically serve the cache version?

I was just served the Cloud Fare version:

This page (http://www.sott.net/) is currently offline. However, because the site uses CloudFlare's Always Online™ technology you can continue to surf a snapshot of the site. We will keep checking in the background and, as soon as the site comes back, you will automatically be served the live version. Always Online™ is powered by CloudFlare | Hide this Alert

The Always Online feature of CloudFlare doesn't work if it's getting a 200 status message from the server (which in this case is the KVM login screen).

I couldn't find how to force it, so I just added a page rule that redirects all SOTT urls to a donation page on the Cass.org server.

It's better than nothing.

There is nothing like losing SOTT for a while to remind us all how much we value it and all the work the editors and support team provides.

Many thanks to all, and especially to Mr. Scott, for your efforts to bring SOTT back.
An extra donation of money at this time can only help support the cause all the way around.

In the meantime, like Mrs. Tigersoap said earlier, I think we should all be extra vigilant keeping an eye on currents events out there in whatever media mode and locations we can use.
While the cat's away, the RATS will "play."
Just a thought, but it might be useful to report anything unusual in a "temporary SOTT news" thread here on the Forum until SOTT is restored.

It is incredible, yes, how we love SOTT.NET. Yesterday I almost had a panic attack. I thought I was crazy to feel like this, and I thought I was the only one to feel like this.

I feel lost without SOTT.NET. Hopefully we still be here, in the Forum.

Thanks Mr. Scott! You are working very hard for all of us, we are so grateful.

I think your idea of a temporary Sott news thread on the forum is a great idea! :bacon:

Thanks for working so hard Mr. Scott.

I concur with the temporary thread idea. Even though I know SOTT's been down for a long time, I keep automatically typing in the URL as soon as I get onto a computer. Goes to show how much I've used SOTT over the years!

Thanks for working so hard, Mr. Scott! Hope the donation will help you have fun server shopping. :)

At least I watched a couple of documentaries on Donbass and Putin that I had on the back burner. Still, life is not the same.
