That American Spirit looks good. Is there a good place to get those in the U.S. online?

As for smoking, not everyone is sick from smoking. I’ve smoked for 36 years and have no medical record to speak of and no sicknesses. I take no pills. Go figure, the last time I had an Xray and EKG they were perfect. I don’t believe I will get cancer ever. My father died at 77 and had smoked his whole life, and his heart failed. He had been on pharma drugs for many years.

Everybody develop cancer cells. But our immune system usually removes these cancer cells.

Thanx!

After going through the educational meat grinder to become a health care practitioner it was very difficult to believe that cigarettes could have any bennefit whatsoever. However, as I thought about what the American cigarette makers are doing to the product I am starting to be able to see how smoking can have a bennefit if it is the right product. How deep does the deprevity have to go, how much more will we endure before we as a whole stand up and ask crucial and meaningful questions? Better yet how long before they begin to answer them?

No, because the shipping would be too expensive. It's better to order from them directly. I e-mailed AS and they replied that in Europe Organic is only available in Germany. If more people put a pressure on them, they might release it in other countries as well.

How do you smoke pipe? I tried and dang it was waaaay too heavy for me. It was like inhaling huge Cuban cigar smoke. On the other hand, you don't smoke the paper which is better than smoking cigz.
There are pipes of all shapes and sizes and some are very very light and others are heavy. Others still can be long like a flute like those of Native Indians peace pipes but hard to put in your back pocket. :)

The tobacco itself is also varied, some are 'flavored', some are herbs, medicinal, etc., some are very light that does not make you cough up a storm, others are very heavy that when you cough, so does your lungs pop out :) So you have a LOT of choices and by asking and experimenting, you choose the tobacco and pipe to suit you. Its like finding the right clothes for you, eh?

I make SURE there is NO ADDICTIVES and get to KNOW THE DEALER so I try my best to KNOW THE SOURCE/MFR of the tobacco and the pipe. I think that is the best you can do. I try to get as 'natural' as I get for both products if possible.

Now - as you know there are filtered pipes and water pipes as well - so that the smoke is Filtered/COOLED down - and the water acts as filter in a sense but then where does the nicotine go? Isn't that what we want?

Now how's that for variety?

In terms of variety, what can you say about a cig/fag/cigar/rollups ??? IMO, they are boring, but as for portability - well - perhaps that is the only thing there that these things (cigs) have an advantage but I have a pipe, pouch, bic lighter, and tobacco and it suits me just fine :p
Thnx Dant. Can I use my American Spirit Tobacco on pipe? These are roll your own tobacco. Last time I tried this on a cheap pipe and I ended up smoking a cigarette after that. I also have a big waterpipe but not sure whether the charcoal is healthy or not.
Here is the pic of the waterpipe (don't mind the monkees ;)): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v472/shinano/Misc/bhongz.jpg
I use tobacco with apple taste on that and sometimes mint. But still not as satisfying as smoking a cigarette.

Oh my! I LOVE THAT PICTURE!!! :D

Smoking AST in a pipe? Why not!

As for the water pipe, you cannot put that in your pocket but I'd venture to
say that you might be able to use a strap and carry it like how 'Kung Fu' carries
his stuff on his back for his long journeys travel'in the country side (Remember
that series with David Carradine?) :D

If you are the pipe sharing type, you can get water pipes with multiple users
(friends) and it makes for a GREAT GATHERING of souls and for GREAT
CONVERSATIONS WHILE TALKING/SMOKING! It would be GREAT for
our members should they get together for that conference! I'd suggest
putting in in the MIDDLE OF THE CONFERENCE ROOM and invite all to
pariticpate and blow smoke rings - wow- WHAT A TRIP that would be..
and place your monkey on the pipe to show that he is HUGGING THAT
PIPE! Mirth!!! Oh! Don't forget to turn off the smoke detectors!!! Mirth!!

The Genetics of Nicotine Addiction

Q: So, there are people who are actually benefited by smoking?
A: Genetics will offer proof of this.
Q: You mean that one can see changes in DNA before and after smoking?
A: Close
I saw the other day in a local newspaper that there is a nicotine vaccine under investigation. Then doing some digging, I found that it was old news, but the clinical trials are making progress.

So who knows, soon we might have a whole new campaign to prevent the benefits of nicotine...

http://www(dot)nih.gov/news/pr/dec99/nida-17.htm

Nicotine is the main addictive component of tobacco. The purpose of the vaccine is to prevent nicotine from reaching the brain so as to reduce its effects and help keep people from becoming addicted.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/05/030521092701.htm

The new idea that they have developed is to take a chemical that resembles nicotine and use it to induce an active immune response. In this immune response, the body produces antibodies against nicotine that can neutralize it in the bloodstream. If a smoker later smokes a cigarette, the antibodies will clear the nicotine from the system before it reaches the brain.
http://www(dot)drugresearcher.com/news/ng.asp?id=62630-nabi-pharmaceuticals-tobacco-vaccine-nicvax

Nicotine vaccine takes further developmental step

Nabi Pharmaceuticals has received a $4.1 million grant to advance the only vaccine being developed in the US and Europe for tobacco addiction. The vaccine is being developed to treat nicotine addiction and smoking relapse with a view to reducing the 5 million tobacco-related deaths that occur each year.
The mechanism of action of this vaccine sounds even dangerous.

I smoke american spirit. The difference between the regular and organic is that the regular crops are grown with the usual pesticides while the organic is not. The organic is tasty and strong but expensive and only available in the pouches. The regular is a good deal if you buy the can. Personally, I prefer the regular "all U.S. grown" A.S. but once in a while a buy a pouch of the organic. Strong stuff. No question, you should actually feel differently(better) after getting off the corrupted brands. I know I did.

On smoking, cancer, nicotine and big pharma

Aha! So when my AS pouch tells me that it is "made with 100% chemical-additive-free, whole leaf natural tobaccos", what it is not telling me is that it was still grown with persticides!?! To think I've been telling others that it was totally 'clean'

*sigh*

May I ask how you know this? Where can I reference this information, please?

There is also the perique tobacco:

From AS Europe site:

The tobacco mixture is the same for each type – with the exception of Perique, which includes 10 % Perique tobacco, and the Organic Blend Rolling Tobacco!

Perique Blend
Perique (pronounced pe-reek) is a dark spice tobacco that is cultivated and processed on small American farms using old traditional methods.
We have added approximately 10 % of Perique tobacco to our Natural American Spirit® Blend to achieve an intense, unmistakable flavour.
From Wikee:

Perhaps the most strongly-flavored of all tobaccos is the Perique, from Saint James Parish, Louisiana. When the Acadians made their way into this region in 1755, the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes were cultivating a variety of tobacco with a distinctive flavor. A farmer called Pierre Chenet is credited with first turning this local tobacco into the Perique in 1824 through the technique of pressure-fermentation.

The tobacco plants are manually kept suckerless, and pruned to exactly 12 leaves, through their early growth. In late June, when the leaves are a dark, rich green and the plants are 24-30 inches (600 to 750 mm) tall, the whole plant is harvested in the late evening and hung to dry in a sideless curing barn. Once the leaves have partially dried, but while still supple (usually less than 2 weeks in the barn), any remaining dirt is removed and the leaves are moistened with water and stemmed by hand. The leaves are then rolled into "torquettes" of approximately 1 pound (450 g) and packed into hickory whiskey barrels. The tobacco is then kept under pressure using oak blocks and massive screw jacks, forcing nearly all the air out of the still-moist leaves. Approximately once a month, the pressure is released, and each of the torquettes is "worked" by hand to permit a little air back into the tobacco. After a year of this treatment, the Perique is ready for consumption, although it may be kept fresh under pressure for many years. Extended exposure to air degrades the particular character of the Perique. The finished tobacco is dark brown, nearly black, very moist with a fruity, slightly vinegary aroma.

Considered the truffle of pipe tobaccos, the Perique is used as a component of many blended pipe tobaccos, but is too strong to be smoked pure. At one time, the freshly moist Perique was also chewed, but none is now sold for this purpose. Less than 16 acres (65,000 m²) of this crop remain in cultivation, most by a single farmer called Percy Martin, in Grande Pointe, Louisiana. For reasons unknown, the particular flavor and character of the Perique can only be acquired on a small triangle of Saint James Parish, less than 3 by 10 miles (5 by 16 km). Although at its peak, Saint James Parish was producing around 20 tons of the Perique a year, output is now merely a few barrelsful.

It is traditionally a pipe tobacco, and is still very popular with pipe-smokers, typically blended with pure Virginia to lend spice, strength, and coolness to the blend. Perique may now also be found in the Perique cigarettes of Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Co., in an approximately 1 part to 5 blend with lighter tobaccos. A similar tobacco, based on pressure-fermented Kentucky tobacco is available by the name Acadian Green River Perique.
I've never tried this before. I might give it a try on my next order.
