Surgery for 10 and a Half Year Old Pug

My condolences to you, April. You were both lucky to have found each other. Ruby was/is a very special doggie - and a darling one too! Thank you for posting her picture.

 :hug2:

Thank you again and again everyone for your support. It really helps.

Here is a slideshow of photos of Ruby. At the end there is a 45 second video of Ruby eating a prime rib bone with some meat for the very first time on Christmas Day 2011. No Aprils were harmed in this video.

So cute! I like the way she is growling at the end of the video - and still manages to get in a few munches of the meat.

Even though she growled like that she never ever bit me when I tried to take that bone away from her. I would not do that with any other dog but I trusted her.

What a cutie, April. One can clearly see the joy in her eyes. I agree with others that she was lucky to have you, may she rest in peace :hug2:

She was lucky to have you, April. I am sorry for the loss of your 2D companion :hug2:

I agree. My same-age-as-Ruby doberman sounds like he will take your arm off - but that's with his tug toy. Bones he will let you take away from him, albeit rather grudgingly!

Thanks for sharing the photos and video of Ruby. She seemed to really, really like that bone with meat still on it. :D

She seemed to be a very happy little dog.

kudos to your vet for being so dedicated, I am waiting for the blood test results too

I know this is a moot point now and does not change anything but I wanted to clarify the blood test results for you Herr, since you might be curious from a professional standpoint.

Her red blood cells were low for sure but not the proteins I think. Or maybe the proteins were low, god I cannot remember. I recall her mentioning anemia and that is why her gums were so pale but then there was blah blah some other factor that caused her tongue to still be pink.

I recall her saying that the proteins were building up and had nowhere to go or something like that or who knows maybe I am still recollecting it wrong (okay I will just stop the overthinking that occurs during grief now, ugh).

I feel for you April.

I just had to put my 3 year old parrot to sleep as he got metal poisoning and even though we got the metal out after a long time, he just kept mutilating himself out of habit.

In the end we did what was best for him and helped him get a new body :(

We will miss him, but honestly I see so many people having to watch their children die around me that I can't cry too much for a bird.

Awwwwww, how adorable! It's always the little ones who act so tough, and it's soooooo cute.

A few days have now past April since last here and thus now so very sorry for your loss of dear Ruby and so grateful for the attention you gave. :hug2:

Came across a couple of older posts that you may find helpful.

Take good care.

Thank you, Voyageur for those links and your support.

I received a card from the vet yesterday. It said this:

"I know your heart is heavy and you miss your soulful-eye sweetie. I have been around a lot of dogs but she had a quality of listening and understanding which was unusual and special. You made the most loving and kindest choice to give her body peace.

Take care,
Catherine"

Wow April, that was really nice! I wonder if it's usual for vets to do that?

I think Dr. Catherine has been an exceptional vet throughout this whole experience. It's also obvious that Ruby is a special dog, and April a special human.
