The Dot Connector Magazine Joins Forces With SOTT.net!

Got mine! It was in the mail box when I got home yesterday. It was post marked 14/03/11, so I think it was most likely the second one sent. I never did get the first one.

I've attached a photo of the barcodes in case you want to look further into this to find out where the magazine went, the top barcode in the photo was over the lower barcode.

If you were to wanting to divert someones mail they posted, it does sound like a good easy way of doing it, just apply a barcode sticker at the first sorting office with an alternate address, if the barcode overrides the address label, then let the sorting machines do the rest. Not trail as nobody can read the barcodes, apart from the sorting machines...

Changing the barcode would effectively change where the magazine went to. But if the top barcode was covering the 1st one then the top one would be the correct barcode to the receivers address and the bottom would have been the dud that let the magazine float through the postal service (until the correct barcode was attached). I've seen mainly large envelopes, like magazines with two different barcodes although it's rare.

Because in order to not have mail come back to the wrong postal office, those barcodes need to be scratched out so the machines can't read it and a new correct barcode has to be attached.

I could be wrong about this, because the way the postal service works, one arm doesn't know what the other is doing and vice versa. I'll check more into it though. But for those wanting to file complaints, I'd say go ahead. I doubt it would speed up receiving your copies, but at the very least your letting them know your not happy about delivery.

I am aware that some people in Massachusetts have received their DCM, but I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive.

Mine came in Massachusetts sometime this past week. I was out of town so I don't know which day.

I'm pretty sure that was the original shipment date.

The barcode on my mailing is very easy to remove, so it could very easily have been replaced with a corrected version.

Sounds like the problem is with the originating office which placed the original barcodes on March 14th. International mail should take no longer than 7 to 21 days. It's been nearly twice that long (39 days in my case). Who knows where the package was sent to. Sure are alot of mistakes  ...I've gotten used to it, as the mail rates rise, the service has progressively gotten worse, and the handlers are more and more careless. Being overworked and understaffed could have that effect on people.

But it does seem that the issues are arriving undamaged; it could just be a one time thing, a nuisance. You could try test mailings using different offices, but it could just result in wasted energy.

Another idea would be if your software that generates the addresses could automatically generate the barcode as well. A plug-in could be available that will print the barcode on the label itself. ..just thinking out loud

Edit to add, if interested:

Here's a free generator Zint Barcode Generator which will generate international bar codes.

Mine arrived today here in Central Florida. It was post marked 14/3/11 and was in perfect condition. It looks amazing! I can't wait to dig in and read!

Thanks to you all for putting together such a wonderful magazine. It is well worth the wait!

Just got back from the mailbox, and my Dot Connector was finally in there!

The weird thing? It was addressed to my husband. I know I subscribed under my own name.....

I'm actually tickled its arrived, period, however it got here!

It was stamped 14/03/11

Under the bar code is a handwritten word: Livre

The return address on the back has been struck off with a line through it.

Mine had the same, but the word Livre was handwritten in the top left corner. I believe that is French for deliver. Which I thought was strange if written by the Postal Service, Why would someone post something if it wasn't to be delivered?l!! Maybe it means they inspected it and decided it was 'livre-able'! Or, maybe the crew put it there when it was packaged and ready to go to post. However, it did arrive still sealed and with no damage. So I segued to reading it!!

'Livre' just means book in French and as a postal designation it extends to 'printed matter' - including magazines.

I received my magazine yesterday. It also had a postmark of 14-03-11.
Thank you for publishing a magazine that is definitely worth waiting for!

Thank you Palinurus for the clarification, and the French lesson!! That makes perfect sense to me now. It is funny how my assumption led to a tangent of meaningless thought!
