The infrabed

I would guess 15-30cm for something like half the dose, but that's just my guesstimate without having one and just trying to think of the numbers.

I think it might actually be more useful to angle the light away. The optical angle of an LED is the angle at which the intensity drops to half, so if you take a 60 degree spotlight, I think turning it 30 degrees (half of the spotlight angle, probably close to the LED angle) or more will give you about half the exposure.

The key point in the above info is THERMAL RADIATION... so as Laura is suspecting exposure to the point of thermal generation (heat) should be AVOIDED and watched carefully...

Too much time in NIR devices could lead to Thermal Effects... just my two cents... :cool2: :cool2: :cool2: :cool2: :cool2:

Well, what we are dealing with here produces almost zero visible light effects and about zero thermal radiation. Yes, other frequencies produce heat, such as FAR infrared, but the Near infrared is pretty cold.

Not to put too fine a point on it, or beat a dead horse, but I just want to repeat that since there are whole lot of unknowns about the details of light therapy, it's better to be cautious with overdosing. Of course, like anything else, there are many individual variables that would need to be taken into account (e.g. pain and suffering/serious conditions vs. less serious/health maintenance, etc.) But since there IS evidence of a biphasic dose effect, at least those who do not need immediate maximum effects/benefits from light therapy, should be patient and go slow, so as not to risk losing all benefits for a time by overdosing. Again, since much details are unknown, we don't even know what it takes to get over an overdose to then start getting benefits again (like how long in time of refraining from light therapy for "how much" overdose, individual variables etc.). Finally, some of the graphs that show the cellular bi-phasic dose effect show a "detrimental result" when gone over the beneficial dosage curve - i.e a large overdose may actual have results for the specific treatment below the starting baseline (worse). Just keeping all this in mind seems reasonable.

I agree. Since this is something that really does have an effect - crazy though it may seem - one should go slow and carefully observe and be aware of what the body is doing and how it is feeling. And everybody is different, so what works for one may not work for another.

I backed off from doing it every day after a day, about a week ago, when I spent some time outside in the sun. The following day I had a headache and I just felt sort of revulsion at the idea of the infrabed. So, I waited a day or two, and then went and felt the resurge of energy again. So that made me think I should pay attention to how I feel and also maybe how much sunlight I was getting too. Then, after a couple of cloudy days indoors, I needed it again. I did it yesterday and feel like I will do it again today because it "appeals" to my system. I don't know a better way to describe it. After today's session, I will observe how I feel and decide about tomorrow later.

Listening to the body's response really does make sense. I'm still at a stage that could be described as a 'LED craving phase' but I try not to go too crazy on it.

I have previous experience with certain supplements that I had really strong revulsion to and cutting them out actually made me feel better. Same thing goes for food cravings: I've been having cravings for blueberries and strawberries over the last couple of months and someone mentioned to me that they help increase serotonin and dopamine levels due to their tyrosine content. I read up about it and found out that serotonin and dopamine tend to be low in people with MTHFR mutations (which I have) so this could explain the berry cravings.

I wonder if this revulsion/appeal response of the body is based on a similar mechanism to the 'muscle testing' technique that was discussed in the iodine thread.

(...) Dear Ant22 read this article, maybe you will find the answer here.i am gland you feel much better. :)

Thanks munaychasumaq, I'm really glad about that too :) Thank you for the article too, it's in line with information I came across in the Photobiomodulation thread as well.

My device is CW, does anyone know how to make it 10-40 Hz? I don't have the sufficient knowledge to experiment with these things, if it doesn't say on the label, "making your CW unit convert to 10-40 Hz".

I'll ask the manufacturer too and do some searching.

I can't see anything to suggest it has controllable blink rate. MAYBE that has to do with the automatic turn-on in the dark. Do you have a link to the manual or the info you got that suggested it can do this?

Having returned today from my second 15 minute session under Pierre's bed, going back tomorrow for the third session. It is a very impressive construction that Pierre and Scottie have assembled. I am very curious to see if it will address some of my physical issues. From the information in this thread I have positive expectations
Having read through most of this thread, the unit below bought by Hello H2O and discussed in several comments looks like a great item to have on hand. I found one this one quite reasonably priced at amazon.co.uk.

Received my infrared lamp today.

A whole 5 days early. Was supposed to arrive Aug 18th. (Must have been in the giant Amazon warehouse that is only about 8 blocks from here...)

It seems to be as advertised, seems high quality. I notice a slight hum when plugged in, but no flicker that I can see.

Now I just have to figure out how to use it. :D

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I am going to mount one on a microphone boom stand that I have been using to support my UFO three color LED plant grow light. It easily height and position adjustable and will support the 2 lb weight, as the plant LED is heavier. These stands are reasonably priced around $40.00 for the heavier duty ones. You might also find one in a pawn shop. Usually lots of used band equipment there.

That is a great suggestion, a boom mic stand, or even maybe a boom cymbal stand might just do the trick. Will check it out.

A cymbal stand might be more secure to attach the light as it has a threaded post with a wingnut at the end. (Just not sure if the threaded part is too thick for the hole in the light bracket.)

Maybe something like this?

ADDED: Thinking that they are pretty standard sizes, I checked the hole on the light bracket to my e-drum cymbal stand, and it is just a hair too thick to fit, but I think the hole on the light could be enlarged a bit with a drill or something to make it fit.

The end of the boom of the mic stand is also threaded with lock nut, but I just suspend the light from the three wire harness with hook at top that came with the grow light. I hang it from the mic holder that I left on the boom. No need to attach the light directly to the boom when a simple wire or heavy monofilament harness cum hook will get the job done.

Besides, what will you use to hold your cymbal if you get a gig? ;)

Hehe. I would not use the stand from the kit, I will purchase a separate one for the light. Although maybe it would be kind of funky to play with it bathing me with light while I am playing... :)

So with a wire attachment or the harness, can you have the light secured in many positions? I would like to have it with the option of having it secured in multiple positions depending what part of the body you are focusing on.

Little help please.

Is a camera floodlight supposed to light up with visible red on all LEDs and emit some perceptible heat? Is this why the marketed health products advise minimal distance from the body? I thought, I could hold it onto my skin.. :umm:

I bought this 48 led IR light (12V DC, 1A or 500ma) on ebay. As you can see it has 48 leds packed tightly together. Is that the cause of heat? As I bought a bigger floodlight (12V DC, 2A) too and plan to operate both on on this power supply (12V DC 5A), since reading on the net that more than one IR cameras can be operated on one adaptor, its just recommended to buy a bigger one to exceed the amperage (1A+2A) safely during the years adaptors allegedly decline in power, so it can carry both IR floodlights.

I was surprised to see the top of the marketed 850nm IR leds light up in red, as soon as I duct-taped the daylight sensor..

I planned to hold it onto my skin for 8-14 minutes, but it stings after a couple seconds. Possibly the leds are too close and the small floodlight device needs air space during operation to cool itself passively?

Does the IR strip on your infrabed light up in visible red?

Edit:
Found this explanatory diagram. So its supposed to light up in faint red. Phew, I thought I bought bogus on ebay. :D

Based on the specs it would have to use more powerful LEDs. With fewer LEDs that means each LED emits much more IR energy. This means that right next to the IR lamp the power is very concentrated. So assuming the lamp is what it is claimed to be, you should probably just move it further away.

Aha! Thank You, monotonic! Also, since this is a device meant for outside, it pretty much leaks DC current / is short-circuited [faulty insulation], that's why it "stings". A definite boon! I won't disassemble it to find the leak/connection with the aluminium shell, because the research means exactly DC current for dental regeneration. I could feel the current on my teeth and can already feel the teeth/gum inflammation caused by IR [normal for 1st time]. Of course those dental devices work best by driving current through the teeth using two electrodes, but if this 12V "tazering" also helps somewhat, so be it! ;D I'm looking forward to this added "feature". Thank You "Made in China"!

Already feeling the perkiness, Laura talked about. Similar to the kick of the FIR Sauna, both feels like directly pumping energy to the moving center.

Best to test IR, when exhausted.

Today is probably the best day for field testing this small floodlight. After an early morning's extensive fasted-sprinting & athletic exercise this Monday also happens to be my fasting day, so no food, no matter how much my body+brain craves it. I always felt super-exhausted and devoid of energy on these occasions. Couldn't do any serious work, just existed like some brainless zombie or a dessicated tree.

After applying artificial IR for 1st time I feel strong perkiness and can do some heavy-duty creative brain-work!! My body and brain appears to have hungrily soaked in the energy. Can't wait, how IR will feel combined with the bigger floodlight and having the high on nutrients from eating food!
