The Magnesium Miracle

I've never found it hard to just put the vitamin C and magnesium powder in a half glass of distilled water, add a level teaspoon of xylitol, and just drink it down. I follow with another half glass of water to rinse out the glass and get all of it. No big deal.

I too don't find it hard to do. I dunno, maybe it's an age thing and the times when we grow up in. I don't even bother with the xylitol in those situations. It only takes a second to swig a small glass of something bad tasting down followed by another glass of water. Then go and brush my teeth if I need to.

You're right Peam, possibly it is an age thing, like you I just put it in a glass with other powders and swig it down, followed by another glass of water to tidy up the residue. :)

It's up to you, but since you've already invested in the powders, it might be worthwhile to see if you can find some empty gelatin capsules to put the powders in. Get a small 1/4 teaspoon and use that to stuff the powders into the capsules to take (it may get a bit messy). You can set aside a half hour and make a large batch of pills too so you're good to go throughout the week. I sometimes have to do this when my supply of pills runs low. Usually I try to buy the capsules already filled though. ;)

Thank you, RyanX. I just tried a cup of water with vitamin C, magnesium, and a teaspoon of xylitol as Laura mentioned. It's still sour but it is not as bad as before, I can taste lylitol instead of magnesium at the end. I am going to try this for a week between meals on empty stomach and play around with the amount of vitamins until I get a good control of it. If I still find it difficult to keep up everyday, I am going to buy the capsules and make a batch of pills. :)

I like this stuff..

You make it like a tea and drink it hot, and it tastes ok too.
And I still use the Emergen-C packets, 3 or so a day and that seems to do the trick. It`s a lot easier that way.

Make sure to check the ingredients on your emergen-C - some of them have aspartame.

I use the tangerine flavored Emergen-C and though it doesn`t have aspartame,it does have fructose and maltdextrin. So plain C powder would be the better choice of the two.

Check the carbs.

Huh yup, there are 5g carbs per packet, so taking 3 packets a day would add up carbs quicker then I thought!

Best get used to checking the carb content on literally EVERYTHING you put in your mouth! I prefer to save my carb grams for something more filling...

Also, I think Emergen-C has aspartic acid? That is pretty much aspartame, or at least one of his main ingredients that makes the cells get all excited (excitotoxin).

It does have aspartic acid in it. I checked the website.

When using magnesium to keep your bm's regular, is one form of magnesium better than the other? It's a little overwhelming... citrate, malate, taurate, oil, powder, capsules.

I use pure magnesium citrate powder. It is a little bit sour, but I take it with a big class water and so it is ok.
I buy it here: _http://www.magnesium-pur.de

I have found the namesake of this topic, the book The Magnesium Miracle by Carolyn Dean, to be very helpful. It tells what health problems magnesium can help with and, in the final chapter, reviews the various forms of magnesium supplements and the particular uses of each. I don't see it on the recommended reading list any longer (I suppose it was bumped to make room for newer books!) but it is still a good reference to have on your bookshelf.

I have been taking magnesium glycinate tablets, which are supposed to have less of a laxative effect than some of the other forms (something I very much appreciate on days like today). Actually, my only choices if I buy locally seem to be citrate and glycinate.

Just to share my little experience.

I just went through my first bottle of Magnesium Chloride in a few weeks. I take it in the morning, mixed with any kind of drink (don't try that straight, the taste will disgust you for life, I tried...).

I admit that it gives me an extra kick of energy and focus in the morning at least. Helps wake up and carry on with the day. Didn't feel that prior to taking it. First supplement I take I can say I really feel a difference in the body.

I want to keep at it. Anyone seen a marked difference between the various kinds of Magnesium supplements you take ?

i also use melatonin (2 X 3mg) before bed, but that's a different thread !
