Another interesting databit. Seems that Manafort was being raided by the FBI at exactly the same time that Trump sent out his Tweet about the ban on Trannies in the military. Here's a tweet with the images captured:

Not sure .... what to make of this? If true, is this some kind of "Cosmic Joke" or something?

Did A Novelist From The 1800s Warn Us In Advance That Donald Trump Would Be ‘The Last President’? By Michael Snyder, on August 6th, 2017
http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/did-a-novelist-from-the-1800s-warn-us-in-advance-that-donald-trump-would-be-the-last-president

I am about to share with you one of the strangest things that I have come across in a very long time. In the late 1800s, author Ingersoll Lockwood wrote a series of novels which appear to have striking parallels to events happening today. In his first two novels, The Travels and Adventures of Little Baron Trump and His Wonderful Dog Bulgar and Baron Trump’s Marvelous Underground Journey, an extremely wealthy little boy with “a very active brain” named Baron Trump is guided on a series of extraordinary adventures by a man known as “Don”. And if you can believe it, little Baron Trump’s adventures actually begin in Russia…

For starters, the main character’s name is the same as President Donald Trump’s son, albeit spelt differently. Trump’s adventures begin in Russia, and are guided thanks to directions provided by “the master of all masters,” a man named “Don.”

Before leaving for his voyage through the unknown, Trump is told of his family’s motto: “The pathway to glory is strewn with pitfalls and dangers.”

Illustrations from the novels depict Trump dressed in lavish, old-fashioned clothing and jewelry as he departs from Castle Trump and begins his voyage, heading to Russia to locate an entrance into alternate dimensions.

That is strange, right?

Subsequently, Lockwood wrote another novel entitled “The Last President” in which the election of a very unpopular “outsider candidate” sparks huge mob riots by “anarchists and socialists” in New York City. The following comes from the Daily Mail…

The story opens in a New York City in turmoil. It’s early November right after the election of an enormously opposed candidate.

The East Side of the city, which is where the Women’s March began the day after Donald Trump’s inauguration, is in a ‘state of uproar.’

The 19th century book says police officers shouted through the streets as ‘Mobs of vast size are organizing under the lead of anarchists and socialists, and threaten to plunder and despoil the houses of the rich who have wronged and oppressed them for so many years.’

‘The Fifth Avenue Hotel will be the first to feel the fury of the mob,’ the novel continues. ‘Would the troops be in time to save it?’

Of course anarchists and socialists would not be rioting if a Democrat was elected, so obviously the president in this particular story would be a Republican.

And today Trump Tower actually stands on Fifth Avenue.

I don’t know if there is any special significance to any of this. I just found these parallels to be absolutely fascinating, and I thought that I would share them with all of you. Some people out there believe that Ingersoll Lockwood was trying to warn us about our future, but others are downplaying the parallels that these stories have with modern day events. For example, this is how Snopes concluded their article on this matter…

Although these books contain some seemingly bizarre coincidences, they are not evidence that Donald Trump has access to a time machine. Time travel conspiracy theories such as this one pick and choose material that supports their conclusions while ignoring everything else. For instance, these books also contain giant turtles, alternate dimensions, a battle with a big white crane, a dog named Bulgar, and a little smiling man frozen in time. Since these aspects have no clear connection to the Trumps, they are omitted from the conspiracy theory.

Before I end this article, let me share with you another “amazing coincidence” that I just came across.

By now, all of you have probably heard about the remarkable solar eclipse that is going to take place on August 21st. Well, it also turns out that the path of this solar eclipse will almost entirely cross areas of the country that voted for President Trump…

A Boston Globe article attempting to make a connection between the solar eclipse and President Trump supporters is being widely mocked on social media.

The article by Globe reporter Matt Rocheleau, titled “The solar eclipse path will overwhelmingly pass over Trump Country,” starts off by asking the question, “Is the eclipse throwing shade at Clinton supporters?”

In fact, of the approximately 240 counties that this eclipse will cross, a whopping 92 percent of them voted for Trump last November…

He said the path is roughly 70 miles wide and spans about 240 counties — 92 percent of which swung in Mr. Trump’s favor, “while fewer than two dozen counties voted for his opponent, Hillary Clinton.”

The article points out that Mr. Trump himself was born on June 14, 1946 — the same day there was a total lunar eclipse, “though it wasn’t visible from the United States, NASA records show.”

To me, that is rather remarkable, but once again many are pointing out that this could potentially be “just a coincidence”.

When it comes to Trump, there seems to be so many of these “coincidences”. For instance, on his first full day in office Trump was 70 years, 7 months and 7 days old, and that just happened to take place in year 5777 on the Hebrew calendar.

And here are some more extremely strange numbers that I discussed in a previous article…

-Israel was 77 days old exactly 777 days after Donald Trump was born.

-Israel’s 70th birthday will come exactly 700 days after Trump’s 70th birthday.

-Donald Trump won the election on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s 7th year, 7th month and 7th day in office.

I don’t know what special significance all of these facts may have, but I do know that we are living in highly unusual times.

All of human history has been leading up to the times that we are moving into, and I believe that we are going to see great chaos and upheaval. But there is no other time in human history when I would have rather lived, and I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next.

Angelburst29, I agree that we are indeed living in interesting and definitely chaotic times. As I was reading through your post (parts of which I was familiar with), I wondered whether it was possible that someone authored the "1800s" novels more recently.

As to the numbers and ties to Israel, an astrologist I know, Robert Phoenix, has done some fascinating overlays of the astrological charts of Trump with Israel, as well as recently one with McMaster and Jared Kushner. Those are also quite telling. From Robert's analysis of the astrology, he believes Trump also could likely have a physical challenge up to and including the eclipse on the 21st, possibly impacting his heart.

From where I'm sitting and observing all that's going on in this country, especially after the weekend's rally in Virginia punctuated by violence and the police standing down, the division and anger continues to build and the paid for media is feeding every anti-Trump meme they can. It's getting more than a little worrying.

The United States is looking a lot like lots of other countries in which Soros has seemingly helped work the magic.

These events parallel the recent arrest of Imran Awan, one of the spies in Congress that George Webb had been seeking to expose for months. Tonight's live stream with George, Jason & Trish at Crowdsource the Truth was unsettling to say the least, and ended rather abruptly when Jason and George kept talking over each other in a rather heated discussion. Tonight's stream followed one yesterday evening with Lee Stranahan, another alternative reporter, whose YouTube channel had been shut down, along with 10 years of his work product.

I could go on and on, but let it suffice to say, this country appears to be heating up and Donald Trump continues to be assailed on all sides.

US President Donald Trump has removed chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon from the post, White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement on Friday.

White House Chief Strategist Stephen Bannon Resigns
https://sputniknews.com/us/201708181056587800-trump-fires-bannon/

According to the statement, Friday has been "agreed" to become Bannon's last day at the White House.

We are grateful for his service and wish him the best," Huckabee said in a statement.

The New York Times reported earlier, citing high-profile officials, that Trump was considering firing Bannon.

The Times also reported that White House officials said it was Bannon’s idea to step down. He reportedly submitted his resignation on August 7 but the announcement of his departure was delayed by the Charlottesville events.

The report added that Bannon has clashed with senior White House officials and members of Trump’s family.

Bannon, 63, stirred up controversy by getting job in the US Administration. Having been worked for ultra-conservative media outlet Breitbart News, he has been repeatedly called by opponents a white supremacist.

The Democratic Party said in a statement on Friday that there will be one less white supremacist in the White House as Chief Strategist Steve Bannon leaves, but the move will not change the hateful views and activities of President Donald Trump.

'One Less White Supremacist': US Democrats Rejoice as Bannon Leaves White House
https://sputniknews.com/us/201708181056589015-democrats-bannon-white-house/

Commenting on the resignation of Trump's top aviser, the Democrats said in a statement, "there is one less white supremacist in the White House," adding "that doesn't change the man sitting behind the resolute desk."

"Donald Trump has spent decades fueling hate in communities, including his recent attempts to divide our country and give a voice to white supremacists," the statement reads.

The Democrats said in the statement the United States still needs leaders that represent the diversity of the American people.

Earlier on Friday, White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced that Steve Bannon and Chief of Staff John Kelly mutually decided this would be Bannon's last day.

The psychologists who designed and implemented the Central Intelligence Agency's post-9/11 torture program, have settled a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union. The move may not open the door for further prosecutions, however.

CIA Torture Psychologists Settle Victim Lawsuit but Further Actions Doubtful
https://sputniknews.com/military/201708181056579518-cia-torture-psychologists-settled/

The move is a culmination of a two year battle between the pair and the ACLU, during which the plaintiffs — Suleiman Abdullah Salim, Mohamed Ahmed Ben Soud, and the family of Gul Rahman —successfully overcame the psychologists' numerous attempts to have the case dismissed, numerous secret documents were released under subpoena, and former senior CIA officials Jose Rodriguez and John Rizzo testified about the program for the first time.

The three men were tortured and experimented on using methods developed by the CIA-contracted psychologists — Salim and Soud still bear psychological and physical scars from their ordeal, and Rahman froze to death in a secret CIA prison in Afghanistan. While the victory cannot undo their suffering, Drod Ladin, a staff attorney at the ACLU who represented the victims, celebrated the news, stating "today was a good day."

Simply Business - In one much-mocked attempt to derail the action, the pair's lawyers argued that psychologists James Mitchell and John Jessen "simply did business with the CIA pursuant to their contracts" just as contractors to Nazi Germany did. The reasoning hinged on a legal principle they claimed was established in a UK military court in 1946, that even if the pair played an integral part in the supply and use of torture methods, they had no influence over the CIA's decision to use them, and thus can't be held accountable.

In that case, several representatives of Tesch & Stabenow, the chemical firm that supplied poison gas such as Zyklon B for use in Nazi concentration camps, faced prosecution for their alleged role in Adolf Hitler's Final Solution. In the end, the court judged gassing technicians at the company, while "integral part{s} of the supply and use of the poison gas" were ultimately "without influence" over whether and how the gas was used.

Shockingly, the willing Nazi comparisons did not end there — lawyers also invoked the example of Karl Rasche, a banker who loaned SS head Heinrich Himmler vast sums. Tried at the Nuremberg Trials, judges ruled that while the loan was akin to loaning "raw materials" to a builder of a house the loaner "knows will be used for an unlawful purpose," he had played no direct role in that unlawful purpose being carried out, and acquitted him. The bizarre motion was summarily dismissed by judges.

Legal Grounding - Mitchell and Jessen were sued under the Alien Tort Statute, for their commission of torture, cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment, nonconsensual human experimentation and war crimes. The settlement is historic, as every previous lawsuit aimed at holding public officials involved in the CIA torture program has been dismissed.

However, while the number of people affected by the program could run to thousands — the CIA has consistently refused to disclose exactly how many individuals were involved — it may not set any precedent for other victims to follow. Previous cases have all been unsuccessful, as judges variously found the program was too secret for courts, the US Constitution did not protect prisoners from torture, and public officials were immune from liability. The case of Mitchell and Jessen is somewhat exceptional, as the pair were never CIA employees, merely civilian contractors, and as such are open to civil liability. Their settlement may nonetheless open the door for subsequent civil proceedings.

The full terms of the settlement agreement are confidential, although the defendants released a public statement acknowledging their role in the program, although they maintain the abuses of Salim and Soud occurred without their knowledge or consent and they were not responsible for those actions, and they were unaware of the specific abuses that caused Rahman's death — and are not responsible for those actions as a result. Nonetheless, the pair state it was "regrettable" the trio suffered.

Mitchell and Jessen's remorse will likely provide little comfort to the program's numerous victims, although the payout to victims will likely be high. As the company they founded to contract with the CIA on "enhanced interrogations" earned them US$81 million according to the 2014 Senate torture report — which concluded the program was a "stain" on the US' "values and history" — they can surely afford it.

On top of designing the program itself, the duo personally waterboarded Abu Zubaydah, a detainee who effectively served as guinea pig for the various techniques that would be employed over the subsequent decade — his punishments included staying naked for lengthy periods and in stress positions, and periods of sleep deprivation lasting days. Moreover, deceased plaintiff Rahman, who died of hypothermia after being left "starved, sleepless and freezing" chained in a prison cell following extended interrogation, was grilled six times with Jessen's direct guidance and involvement.

In Mitchell's 2016 book, Enhanced Interrogation: Inside the Minds and Motives of the Islamic Terrorists Trying to Destroy America, he described himself as the "architect" of the torture program, and said his mission was to utilize corrosive methods to instil fear and despair in detainees.

However, the Senate report makes clear the program was not an effective means of acquiring intelligence or gaining cooperation from detainees, and the agency's justification for the use of its enhanced interrogation techniques rested on inaccurate claims — interrogations of detainees were far worse, and conditions much harsher, than the CIA represented to policymakers and others. Inaccurate information was also repeatedly provided to the Department of Justice, impeding proper analysis of the program.

The latest from Ben Garrison:

From Ben’s blog:

I was very disappointed to see Steve Bannon leave the White House. Trump needs someone at his side to remind him about the policies that got him elected. Bannon proclaimed, “The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won, is over.”

So soon? What happened? We know what the situation is now. President Trump is surrounded by deep swamp snakes including Soros. Why has Trump surrounded himself with globalists? He said he supports the country first and proved it by kicking the globalists in their collectivist shins when he shunned the Paris Accords. He wants to limit immigration and build the wall to help protect our country. Does he still have the will or means to follow through on his promises?

McMaster is yelling for more war in Afghanistan and Cohn and the rest are pushing Trump to go along with the globalists to get along. It’s sad. All I can do is hope President Trump can somehow work to deliver on his promises that got him elected.

Bannon said he would attack the liberals and globalists that have taken over the White House and that’s good to hear. So I say, release the kraken that is Bannon!

Trump paints himself as the real victim of Chalottesville in angry speech

The Guardian published an article this morning, following recent events (and great show on SRN's Behind the Headlines covering some of the topic Sunday!):

Speaking at a rally in Phoenix, president attempts to counter widespread, bipartisan condemnation of his response to far-right violence

Donald Trump has sought to portray himself as the true victim of the deadly events in Charlottesville, launching an all-out assault on the media and branding journalists who “do not like our country” as the true source of division in America.

At a rally in Phoenix, evocative of his populist election campaign, the US president attacked coverage of his response to the white supremacist violence and complained bitterly to his audience about how he had been treated.

He re-read three statements he made in the wake of the tragedy and, deploying authoritarian rhetoric, declared: “It’s time to expose the crooked media deceptions and to challenge the media for their role in fomenting divisions and yes, by the way, they are trying to take away our history and our heritage.” The crowd – some scowling, some laughing – turned and jeered at journalists in the media enclosure and chanted: “CNN sucks! CNN sucks!”

Even as he spoke protesters outside the Phoenix Convention Center had gathered to voice anger at his presence. Police used smoke bombs and teargas on the crowds after plastic bottles were reportedly thrown. [...]

What he says could be misinterpreted WRT nationalism. Considering the opinions of the majority on Trump right now, and how the MSM are typically all over 'attacks' like these, such a speech may not help his position in future.

I've also noticed during a recent face the press discussions, that his response, (and the tone of his discussion), that he sounded and looked extremely exhausted.

One can only imagine the pressures from all fronts, with the constant harassment (of the left media press-titutes) is gonna take its tole on his conscious and previous campaign promises.

Lindsey Graham: ‘I Am Very Pleased’ With Afghanistan Plan – If Congress Votes It Down, They’ll Own the Next 9/11 (Video 6:32)

21 Aug 2017
During the Fox News Channel’s coverage of President Trump’s Afghanistan speech, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) praised President Trump’s Afghanistan policy announcement and warned members of Congress that the next 9/11 will be their fault if they vote the policy down.

Graham predicted that Trump’s proposal will receive a lot of bipartisan support in Congress. He continued, “I’m proud. I’m relieved. I’m proud of the fact that President Trump made a national security decision, not a political decision. … I’m relieved he did not take the advice to withdraw, which would have been disastrous or create a mercenary army.”

Graham later added, “I am very pleased with this plan, and I am very proud of my president.”

He also praised President Trump for delegating to the generals and stated that President Obama “was a lousy general.” Graham also expressed support for moving away from a timetable-based policy to one based on conditions on the ground.

Graham also took issue with Senator Rand Paul’s (R-KY) statement on Afghanistan. Graham stated that he thinks Rand is a worse general than Obama and that Rand has “been wrong about everything in this war. It’s that kind of thinking that got us into 9/11.” Graham continued that on September 10, 2001, the US was trying the Rand Paul policy because it didn’t have any troops in Afghanistan, an embassy, or any aid going to Afghanistan.

He also stated that he doesn’t think Congress has to vote on the new Afghanistan strategy, but will vote on it and will push to pass the new strategy.

Graham concluded by warning his colleagues in Congress, “You will own a no vote. The next 9/11 will be your fault, not President Trump’s fault, if you shoot down this plan.”

Graham (R-SC neocon) creams his jeans with Trumps Afghanistan speech with no reference of reality.

$160 Million of US Taxpayer Money to Fight Corruption in Afghan Customs!?!?!
http://investmentwatchblog.com/160-million-of-us-taxpayer-money-to-fight-corruption-in-afghan-customs/
by IWB · August 23, 2017
As the media complain about security spending for President Donald Trump and his family, they happily overlook the billions of dollars wasted on seemingly contradictory programs to hold up corrupt governments we are supposedly at war with. Are they just ignorant? Or is the war not actually a war?

To start with, there is so much conflicting information on when the war actually began; it has been renamed, repurposed and twisted in so many ways that even official sources seem to be at odds with each other about when war kicked off, and even when it finished!

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR, who I’ll cover in another article, seriously dodgy stuff going on here) state that activities have been taking place in Afghanistan since 1999, ostensibly the al-Qaeda and Taliban Sanctions Committee which linked the two groups. Then came a series of events in 2001 which culminated in the September 11th attacks.

They provide a timeline that shows how accords were reached and peaceful relationships were undertaken including the setting up of a new “friendly government.”

But why then do all the major news agencies say that this is at least a fifteen year war? And more importantly, why did the US government spend $160 million dollars to help curb corruption in their Customs process?

As reported in Breitbart: “To help combat the issues related to the endemic corruption that has plagued the Afghan government’s cash-based customs payment system,” former President Barack Obama’s USAID awarded the $161.6 million contract to Chemonics Inc. to implement an electronic payment system between 2009 and 2017.

This was apparently paid to help remove the cash-based system of Customs Duties that prevented the Afghan government collecting their cut. But why would we be ensuring a government of a country we are at war with is getting their full tax revenue?

The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) says that “Improving the efficient and effective collection of customs duties is important to the government’s long-term sustainability,” pointing out that the Afghan government has been failing to collect enough revenue to cover its expenses…But aren’t we at war?

The US government departments word everything so carefully to show that we have a “war IN Afghanistan” without quite pushing the notion that America is “AT war, “ and this is one of te reasons why there has never been any actual progress.

It seems that this is nothing more than an operation to keep the US in a “state of war” without actually wanting to do anything to end it. And this is the reason there will be significant pushback on any proposals by President Trump.

I've started to watch Trump's speech from Phoenix from yesterday, and it's quite extraordinary and remarkable. Not remarkable in the sense of being a "great speech" where a lot of wisdom and knowledge is shared, but in the sense of being a previously completely unseen manner of any US president addressing the nation. We've seen him do this before, of course, but watching this speech from Phoenix, and particularly hearing the way he talks about the fake media, suddenly "hit home" for me; it's completely surreal to see/hear a politician talk in this way, especially in the US.

I think Trump handles the crowd skillfully, talking "their language". I couldn't imagine Putin talking like this (he would be much more sophisticated), with all the über-patriotism and über-everything, but I think that this über-talk is probably the best way to get your message to the American people.

Have a look:

https://youtu.be/gxwe16H2g9U

Maybe you can look at it from another angle, like attracts like, simple and unsophisticated for simple and unsophisticated people while it is all but simple and unsophisticated.

Just watched Trump's speech at his rally in Phoenix. This actually was a very good speech. Trump has perfect pace and timing and knows how to hold a crowd. He knows how to create "build," which then culminates at the end of the speech in a rousing crescendo. As Aragorn noted, he also knows how to speak to the audience he is intending to reach.

There is this paradox in his berating the media, however, when you consider all the Goldman Sachs bred people he's got working for him -- the very people, symbolically at least, who comprise that power elite that forms the opinion of that same media Trump claims to so loath.

Since Trump is pulling back the curtain on the media (supposedly), or at least to his followers, why not pull back the curtain on the U.S. intelligence operations responsible for the training and funding of terrorism both domestically and world wide? While he's at it, I mean. I believe the Clintons came up in that regard recently but he'd need to go a lot further than that to really "clean up the swamp," as it were.

Trump, as always, uses broad strokes. One is always left grasping for details. Was there no way to attend the Paris climate agreement, for example, and make a better "deal?"

Funny, I just did a search and who happens to come up first with a strong opinion about just this subject -- the good 'ol folks at Goldman Sachs, who believe "new technologies -- not policy -- will drive the shift to a Low Carbon Economy as LEDs, electric vehicles, wind and solar see rapid market share gains on the back of further cost reductions and performance improvement."

Of course, "on the back of further cost reductions" doesn't usually bode so well for the little guy. But then the key here is new markets, which, like everything else on Wall Street, can and will be manipulated to serve certain players over the public good. Nevertheless, new technologies could provide new solutions IF the playing field is at all equitable. But, again, how likely is that with Goldman Sachs at the helm? And again, who is always left holding the bag in this global economy? I believe it's spelled l-a-b-o-r. You know, the people that voted for Trump.

Moving on, Trump, at the very least, knows the issues he must make good on to satisfy his base, including better treatment of veterans, more jobs for the working class in the industrial sector, which he claims to have made a dent in to the tune of one million new jobs (has this been verified?), as well as ousting Obamacare, which he did say is exacting larger and larger premiums, which of course is true. He also said he intends on lowering taxes for the middle class -- now THAT I gotta' see. Oh, and, there's also the matter of "the wall," the neglect of which the recently ousted Bannon included among his gripes.

Now, as to the wall... I do sometimes wonder whether there is more at issue than we can see, or that Trump is willing to talk about. Could it be a way to stop enemy agents (as in U.S. agents meaning to help take down Trump)? Or is this immigrant problem really what's at issue, in which case, is it as onerous as it's being portrayed? I'm not terribly knowledgeable on this subject, but my impression is that the majority of these immigrants are merely those who are willing to risk their lives to get to the U.S. where they can work as migrant farmers, servants, dish washers, etc., so to better provide for their families. As such, are they really displacing jobs that would otherwise have gone to American citizens? In some cases this may be true, but what are the numbers on this?

... but while we are privy to Trump's "true" feelings about the "dishonest" press, we are not privy to such details.

I started to watch this as well, and thought that this was something he needed to do.

As the C's said:

A: Give a lie what it asks for: truth.

He really, point by point, went over the lies that have been spread against him recently.

I don't care much for his speaking style either, as the words can sometimes get lost in his bravado. But on the other hand, I think his bravado and confidence have kept him in the game to this point. Not many who could withstand the withering pressure he has been under.

I might be looking at this situation wrong but I think Trump (aware or not) just opened up a Pandora Box?

Trump might not have all the "points" on Afghanistan and why Mattis, McMaster's, McCain, Graham and other's in the Democratic party are celebrating Trump's decision by giving Executive Permission to increase troop numbers in Afghanistan? The U.S. has been in Afghanistan for 16 years with established Military bases and permanent and rotating personnel. Plus, Thump already gave the General's "full rein" to conduct the war's overseas, after he got into Office and appointed McMaster. So, why all the hype in supplying another 3-4 thousand troops and needing Trump's approval?

Maybe .... because the number of troops, which Secretary of Defense James Mattis is still undecided on, are being supplied to NATO and "the Pentagon needs Executive Permission from the President" to deploy them?

The actual number of the US troops currently serving in Afghanistan is several thousand higher than the official estimates, US media reported on Wednesday.

Number of US Troops in Afghanistan Higher Than Official Estimates
https://sputniknews.com/asia/201708231056726638-us-troops-afghanistan/

The number of US servicemen in the country is about 11-12,000, which is higher than the officially stated number of 8,400 troops, NBC News reported citing three US defense officials.

The increase is due to rotational overlap between units, the officials said. In addition, there are troops deployed to Afghanistan on temporary duty shorter than 120 days.

The revelation comes in the wake of President Donald Trump's new strategy on Afghanistan that stipulates the increase of the number of US troops in the country.

Secretary of Defense James Mattis said on Tuesday, however, that he is still undecided about how many additional troops will be deployed. Mattis added he would want to first account for everybody who is on the ground in Afghanistan.

The United States and its allies launched a military operation in Afghanistan in 2001 following the September 11, 2011 terror attacks on the United States. The mission in Afghanistan ended in 2014. On January 1, 2015, NATO announced its new mission in the country, called Resolute Support,
to train and assist the Afghan security forces.

So, looking at the information above, the U.S. "technically" ended it's war in Afghanistan in 2014 but then the Pentagon/NATO took over the operations.

Is Afghanistan being used as a Pentagon/NATO staging point - for the increased militarization and troop deployment to Countries bordering Russia?

Also, consider this:
The quarterly report published by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) on July 30, 2014, infamously revealed that “adjusted for inflation, US appropriations for the reconstruction of Afghanistan exceed the funds committed to the Marshall Plan, the US aid program that delivered billions of dollars between 1948 and 1952 to help 16 European countries recover in the aftermath of World War II.” It’s worth noting that the $103 billion spent on the Marshall Plan was a higher percentage of US GDP in the late 1940s and early 1950s than the $109 billion spent on Afghan reconstruction between 2002 and 2014. https://sputniknews.com/analysis/201708221056684699-trump-us-policy-afghanistan/

Trump wanted to get rid of NATO and disband it. I think, he just played into their hands - with the opposite effect?

Yet, Trump professes:

No More Democracy of Mass Destruction? Trump 'Not Inclined to Be Global Leader'
https://sputniknews.com/politics/201708231056717388-trump-strategy-global-leader/

President Trump's recent statement that the US "will no longer use the American military might to construct democracies in faraway lands or try to rebuild other countries in its own image" might arise from his disinclination to become a global leader; this is what political scientist James Dorsey told Sputnik Radio.

The United States will never resort to its armed forces to establish democracy in other countries and will not dictate to other people, including the Afghan people, how to live or how to govern their own complex societies; this is what US President Donald Trump said on Monday in Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia, while revealing the renewed US strategy for Afghanistan and Central Asia.
