An unusual happening from last week or so, here in Texas. This was after hearing a single faint rumble of thunder a few minutes earlier, a I had just taken my dad to his semi truck so he could leave for his work. I looked to the south, and in a relatively opaque section of the clouds, a ripple of purple lightning traveled from west to east. It was brief, but very clearly registered to me as purple. This was strange, so I waited to see what the thunder would sound like, but the thunder never came. I don't recall hearing any more thunder that evening.
The clouds did not seem very far away. Most of the sky was filled with semi-transparent clouds with patches of opaque ones. A few minutes earlier we had a brilliant sunset effect that lit the whole area up with a yellowish light. I've seen this before; the sky in the distance - toward the setting sun - was clear, but we had this canopy of clouds overhead. When this happens, it seems to trap the light and fill the atmosphere with the color of the sunset. Once our whole area lit up pink due to this, a few years ago.
As far as general weather goes, so far the fall has seemed prettly mild, with perhaps unusually warm weather. Some storms are coming through now and the next few days, so we'll see what that does.
