What's the weather where you are?

:D Lovely warm day here in Kenya, with a bit of cloud cover as we head into what might be referred to as summer in January. Perfect day for the beach.

Its been a mixture of - 3 to 10 and 0 + degrees celcius, which normally isn't too out of the ordinary and warm for this time of year except that we have had freezing rain nonstop the entire weekend which has developed on and brought down trees on power lines, houses, cars, etc. Today is apparently the last day of freezing rain but there's expected to be wind gusts that may cause more damage. The current estimates are as high as 450,000 people in the GTA and other areas w/out power and it we may not get power back until as late as Wednesday.

Take care Davey72 - i know about frozen water supply too - no fun. Those M 40's temps are realy harsh for us and the animals.

Thanks Voyageur. One of my pigs died, and the other one was near death, and being attacked by the other two. I brought him in the house, and nursed him back to health. I don't recommend this. After cleaning all the blood, and feces i am still unsure how to get the smell out of the house.

I can offer a small solution after an experience I had in cleaning an outside shed that my Stepfather had hung a deer in - until the processor at a local plant could clean, quarter and process it for the freezer.

I filled a large pail with hot water, some laundry detergent and white vinegar. Because it was an outdoor shed, I used an old broom, dipping it into the pail and spashing it over the surface that needed cleaning. I was able to use a garden hose over the area, steering the water out the door. I filled the pail again with hot water and added about a half cup or more of Baking Soda. Then went over the same area, dipping the broom, hosing it off. It was an old wooden floor, stains and smell all came out. I used the same process to clean the basements of both of my Son's when they purchased their homes. The floor was cement, in both cases but it cleared the old musty, mildrew smell out including some oil spills ingrained in the floor.

When I move to a new apartment, the walls get washed down first with a mild laundry solution in warm water. I use a bucket of hot water, some detergent and white vinegar on the floor with a sponge mop. I go over everything with a clean bucket of water with a little baking soda added. When it drys, everything smells clean with no heavy scent. Kitchen cabinets and bathrooms come out clean by the same method. If I happen upon an installed carpet, I use a carpet steam clearner with a mild solution of "automatic" dish washer liquid or powder (low suds) in hot water with a table spoon or more of baking soda. Never add vinegar - for some automatic dish powders/liquids contain small amounts of clorox additives. Not enough to discolor the carpet but it disinfects nicely. When the carpet is dry, there is no scent. Any dirt that might be left in the carpet or near the base, clings to the baking soda traces and vacuums out in regular cleaning.

I'm sure, there's many solutions that may help in your situation. I offer only one that has worked on many occasions for me.

We've just received perhaps another 10-15 cm of snow in Montréal and are expecting another 15-20 cm with some ice rain in the following hours up to today afternoon.

We've had very cold days lately and there is certainly a lot of snow so far for this time of the year.

Have been watching the weather in the East, JayMark, and it does not look good; (Ontario, Quebec & Maritime provinces; likely Main, Vermont, etc., too) power gone for hundreds of thousands in Ontario and the freezing rains came making everything grind to a halt. The ice encapsulating trees, causing them to smash down under the weight, pulling down the hydro grid - so many people in their homes with no heat as the temperatures start to go down.

Hope your doing ok, let us know when you can.

Sorry to hear of the passing of your live stock, and the best to one that survived.

Currently about 25F here in NW Montana. We have about a foot of snow on the ground. I guess there was quite a bit of wind earlier this week down on the valley floor, but we're nestled in amongst the hills and don't seem to get as much wind.

Our indoor cats have figured out that being near the wood stove is very comfy. They're liking this fire thing a lot.

Even though I am up in Northern Europe, above 60 degrees latitude, it has been warm.
The past week has seen highs of +5 to +6 degrees and lows of +1 to +2. No snow at all in this part of the country.

Gulf Stream still is working, fortunately.

Nice weather to being going out for smokes :cool2:

I feel for my Northern US and Canadian friends

The weather is the same here in Bavaria. It is more like spring with temperatures up to 13oC. This is too warm for December in this area. Until now the winter was normal with the temperature more on the warmer side than the colder side with few snow.

I feel for you Northern US and Canadians, too.

Same in Norway. No snow and temperatures well above zero, with flies being observed and plants springing leaves.

Hi guys!

Seems like we were very lucky and avoided the big mess. Haven't been out much yesterday but things didn't get as icy as in Ontario for instance. We received mostly snow and some sleet instead. The conditions were bad nonetheless but not as bad as I had anticipated. Nothing like the 1998 Ice Storm at least. The hot air mass seems to have gone just south of here by very little. But now it's gone and cold is on the menu again. Will get worst in the following days/week.

Thanks for the concern!

Peace.

Take care JayMark, I hope you have your woollies and so on. I am not particularly fond of the cold and snow. I am wondering how you cope.

BTW, within less than two months we are experiencing our third storm, but the temperatures are mild.

If it keeps snowing at the same rate we are going to beat our last record of 555 cm. So far we are quite in advance of that record year.
