Yemen the forgotten country

On the other hand, Pelosi called an emergency meeting, VP Pence is "weighing best response", an oil exec is threating "consequences" and fingers are pointing at Iran? Are some in Washington - blowing this incident "way out of proportion"?

@angelburst29 ,

Yes, almost for certain as they have every other attempt to wage war. Notice the "forgotten country" in this whole scenario? Not much mention of the devastation Saudia Arabia has caused for Yemen. It's all about demonizing Iran so they can do it all over again.

I hate to think about it but an excellent replacement for Trump probably would be Pence for the deep state. You couldn't find a better puppet.

Not much mention of the devastation Saudia Arabia has caused for Yemen. It's all about demonizing Iran so they can do it all over again.

Iran's Zarif has labeled this whole fiasco as a "distraction" and he may be correct on many levels. The Saudi's are placed in the limelight as the "victims" of a devastating bombing raid - yet no one takes a stand, to explain the back story that the Saudi's have been bombing the HELL out of Yemen. Dragging Iran into the picture only serves as a deflection and as Zarif has rightly stated, a distraction. It's only a few short months ago, outside interference tried to remove Zarif from his position, yet he was a pivotal force in the negotiations in the Iranian Peace Treaty, to help anchor stability in the Middle East, as a whole. The bottom line, I think the US has found itself in the cross hairs in Yemen and so deeply entrenched in the fighting, there's no graceful exit out? Swaying in another direction, with the oil industry in mind, it's my understanding, that the Saudi's are not "signatory's" of any "Nuclear Treaty" and this incident might lead to the Saudi's entering into the workings that Russia has been centering on, in a more comprehensive Nuclear Peace Treaty, involving more then the U.S., Iran and Russia?

One other detail, this incident has generated major headlines in all U.S. media outlets and news stations - drowning out the Israeli election and it's final results ... Netanyahu had failed to win the "majority" vote - King Bibi is no longer the head honcho! Will that make a big difference in the Middle East ... we'll see?

A drone attack on the Saudi Aramco’s oil plants took place in the country's east on the night of September 14.

MOSCOW, September 19, 2019 - There is a need for an impartial investigation into the September 14 drone attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters on Thursday.

"You have mentioned the need for a thorough and unbiased investigation," he said, when asked to comment on the incident. "As far as I understand, efforts are being made in this regard. It’s important to make sure that the process is impartial because unsubstantiated accusations won’t help matters, they are only heightening already existing tensions in the region," the Russian top diplomat pointed out.

Yemeni Minister Reveals UAE Links with Al-Qaeda, ISIL

Yemeni Transportation Minister in the fugitive president Mansour Hadi's cabinet Salih al-Jabwani accused the UAE of close ties and cooperation with the al-Qaeda and ISIL terrorists.

"We have evidence to prove that the UAE has relations with al-Qaeda and ISIL terrorist groups in Yemen," al-Jabwani wrote in his twitter page on Wednesday. He added that the UAE uses these terrorists to attack the Yemeni army forces and equipment on Shabwah-Abyan road in Southern Yemen.

Al-Jabwani underlined the need for the residents of Shabwah and Abyan provinces to take stance against the UAE and its affiliated terrorists.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia have been supporting the Takfiri terrorist groups in Southern Yemen against the Yemeni popular forces for a long time.

The Yemeni intelligence sources disclosed in 2016 that the country's security forces had gained access to a series of documents and correspondence which prove the UAE's role in supporting Al-Qaeda and other radical terrorists groups in Southern Yemen.

"The documents and letters gained by the Yemeni security forces clearly show that the United Arab Emirates has supported Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups in Yemen, specially in the Southern part of the country," the Arabic-language Emirate al-Youm quoted unnamed Yemeni intelligence officials as saying.

The sources reiterated that the UAE spies had given a lot of cash and weapons to the commanders of the Al-Qaeda and the ISIL in Yemen to conduct their terrorist acts in the Southern Yemeni provinces.

"These documents and intelligence unveil the relations between a UAE intelligence officer with senior commanders of Al-Qaeda and the ISIL in Yemen," they added.

Spokesman of Yemen's Armed Forces Yahya Saree in a press conference displayed images taken by the Yemeni drones before and after the Saturday attacks against the Saudi Aramco oil facilities.

During the press conference in Sana'a on Wednesday, General Saree highlighted that aerial photographs, taken by Yemeni reconnaissance drones in the wake and aftermath of the operation, show the extent of damage caused on the two major oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, stating that it was launched following a careful intelligence collection process.

“The destruction of the targeted facilities is far greater than what has been announced. Americans sought to publish fabricated pictures of the operation aftermaths as part of attempts to downplay it. The blaze lasted for several hours and authorities in the state of aggression (Saudi Arabia) could not contain it,” the high-ranking Yemeni military official pointed out.

3.25,2020 - Aden had encountered a power outage after the rainfall.

Yemeni weather expert Nabil Aboud said Aden is expected to witness further, heavier, rainfall on Thursday coming from the Arabian Sea.

DUBAI: Severe flooding caused by heavy rains in Yemen’s Aden killed two with predictions of continued rainfall on Thursday as the city begins testing for coronavirus infections.

Medical sources told local daily Aden Al-Ghad on Wednesday that a man and a woman were caught by the floods. They were pulled from the water and transported to hospital, but died before receiving treatment.

Aden had also encountered a power outage after the rainfall. Officials in the electricity corporation said the stations had stopped operating.

Meanwhile Yemeni weather expert Nabil Aboud said Aden is expected to witness further, heavier, rainfall on Thursday coming from the Arabian Sea.

Meanwhile, doctors warned the government to take quick action to resolve the issue of flooding as stagnant water could cause a large number of mosquitos that may carry infectious diseases.

Despite confirmation from local and international health officials that the war-torn country has not yet recorded a single case of the coronavirus, the UN official warned that the virus could overwhelm Yemen’s understaffed and poorly equipped health facilities.

Abd al-Nasser Abu Bakr, head of the department for combating infectious diseases at the WHO office in the Eastern Mediterranean, told CNN Arabic last week that he expected "an explosion in the number of coronavirus cases in Syria and Yemen."

A Yemeni photographer has captured what he believes to be an unidentified flying object (UFO) over a mountainous area in northern Yemen.

Aseel Badiyan’s picture shows a white triangular, object soaring through the clouds, reported UAE based Emirates 24/7 on Thursday.

The photo has been corroborated by the deputy chairman of the Saudi astronomy association, Sharaf al-Sifyati, who says :”when this Yemeni photographer contacted me and showed me that picture, I felt that he was telling the truth...I checked the picture and found that is authentic and does not involve any tricks or tampering….as for that object, I believe it is strange and unfamiliar but I am not sure it is a space object because these phenomena remain a possibility rather than a reality…I think this incident has to be fully investigated,” according to Saudi Arabic language daily Ajel.

Badiyan was using his camera to take shots of the mountain range, almost 90 kilometer from the capital Sanaa.

The photographer was not surprised at his sighting.

“I have surfed the internet for similar sightings worldwide and found that the picture I captured is the clearest so far…I believe that those who are behind such objects are advanced people who possess a very intelligent civilization,” Badiyan told Saudi and Yemeni newspapers.

“There is no doubt that we are not alone in this spacious universe,” al-Sifyati added

Reports of a large presence of US and Israeli troops at al-Ghaydhah Airport in al-Mahra province, of Yemen.

The head of the Mahrah sit-in protest committee, Sheikh Ali Salem al-Harizi, has confirmed on Thursday the presence of Israeli military officers in Mahra province, east of Yemen.

This came during a news conference held by sheikhs of Mahrah to discuss the repercussions against continued foreign presence, and preparations to confront it in the governorates of Mahrah and Socotra.

Al-Harizi said: “Three Israeli enemy officers are present along with the British occupation forces at al-Ghaydah Airport, and we know that they want to attack us.”

For his part, Issa bin Yaqut, one of Socotra’s sheikhs, confirmed that the Israeli forces present on al-Ghaydah airport came to work for foreign intelligence services in the governorates of Mahrah and Socotra, under the cover of tourism.

The presence of British and Israeli forces in the two governorates is facilitated by Saudi and Emirati forces, and is meant to bolster their control strategic Yemeni areas and expand the circle of Israeli influence in the Arab region.

Thank you @Ocean for keeping the Yemen thread alive. On the one hand I understand why there is little activity in this thread; it is sadly more of the same we have covered in many other threads. Now I have spent a few hours on the topic and I have to ask myself it if was more than a distraction, or if I could have spent my time better. Well, I think what convinced me to carry on, was that almost 40 years ago, I met a man from North Yemen. Sources: US Troops Leaving Afghanistan for Yemen TEHRAN (FNA)- A number of US troops have entered a military base in Southern Yemen after withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Yemeni media reported.

The Arabic-language Vikalat Sahafiyat al-Yameniyat news website reported that a number of US troops who have withdrawn from Afghanistan arrived at Aden Airport in Southern Yemen and then moved to Lahij province.
I looked up the Al-Anad base on the Wiki and found there was an attack as recently as August 29, where 30 to 40 people were killed. We don't know how that could even happen..., though one should think a safer the troops that arrived there in July according to the previous article. The article from Aljazzera mentioning 30 killed has:
Dozens killed in Houthi attack on Yemen’s largest base
At least 30 soldiers killed and 60 wounded in rebel attacks on major military base housing Saudi-led forces.
1630698607708.png
At least 30 soldiers have been killed and 60 wounded in Houthi attacks on a military base belonging to forces of the Saudi-led coalition, a spokesman for Yemen’s southern forces said.

Sunday’s attack on the al-Anad military base in the government-held southern province of Lahij was carried out using armed drones and ballistic missiles, said Mohamed al-Naqeeb, the spokesman.

A ballistic missile landed in the base’s training area, where dozens of soldiers were doing morning exercises, officials said.

Al-Naqeeb said the death toll may rise as rescuers are still scouring the scene.

Medics described a chaotic situation at the base following the explosions, with soldiers carrying their wounded colleagues to safety fearing another attack.

Residents nearby said several loud blasts were heard in the area. Other residents from the disputed central city of Taiz said they heard ballistic missiles fired from launchers positioned in the Houthi-held eastern suburbs of the city.

There was no immediate comment from the rebel side.

The internationally recognised government – backed by a Saudi-led military coalition – and the Iran-allied Houthis have been locked in war since 2014 when the rebels seized the capital, Sanaa.

World’s worst humanitarian crisis

In 2019, the Houthis said they had launched a drone attack on al-Anad during a military parade, with medics and government sources saying at the time at least six loyalists were killed – including a high-ranking intelligence official.

Al-Anad, 60km (40 miles) north of Yemen’s second city Aden, was the headquarters for US troops overseeing a long-running drone war against al-Qaeda until March 2014 when it was overrun by the Houthi rebels.
If one checks on social media, there are a few groups of very mixed quality, some news, some religious propaganda mixed with calls for aid, news mixed with business offers, and some pure aid organisations. Among the news sites, Yemen Daily News has near the top a post from March 2021 with a link to Vanessa Beeley Interview – Inside The West’s Illegal Yemen Occupation & CIA Caught Rescuing Al-Qaeda

Yemen has strategic importance, economically, and geopolitically. One can call for peace and aid, but with the power struggles going one from the global level, if not cosmic, right down to the level of the people and their minds, it is very hard for me to see any solution in the short run. The people who are in Yemen, from where ever they may be, on whatever side they find themselves and in whatever capacity, are faced with the challenge and opportunity to do the best they can according to their intentions and circumstances. In a certain way that is perhaps not so different from the life of many other people on the planet, even if on the surface of things their daily lives appear so very different.

After checking all the hot sports reported by South Front, it seems Yemen is the one where most action is taking place at the moment:
  • The Liaison and Coordination Officers’ Operations Room (loyal to Ansar Allah) reported 505 ceasefire violations in al-Hudaydah during the past 24 hours
  • On September 6, Saudi-led coalition warplanes conducted 5 airstrikes on the Sarwah district
  • On September 6, Saudi-led coalition warplanes conducted an airstrike on the Jabal Murad district
  • On September 6, Saudi-led coalition warplanes conducted 2 airstrikes on the Kitaf district
  • On September 6, Saudi-led coalition warplanes conducted an airstrike on the Dhaher district
  • On September 6, clashes between Ansar Allah and Saudi-led forces continued in the west of Marib city

For an idea of the size, Yemen covers 555,000 sq km similar to the European parts of France with 551,695 sq km.

Negotiator: Yemen war would have ended in first year without US support

A senior Yemeni official says the Saudi-led war on his country would have ended in its first year if there had not been political and military support from the United States for the aggressors.
The remarks by Abdul Malik al-Ajri, a member of the negotiating team at the Yemeni National Salvation Government, on Tuesday came after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed that Yemen's retaliatory attacks were prolonging the war.
“The legitimate right to respond to [the Saudi-led] aggression does not translate into prolonging the war. It is American weapons that are making the Yemen war longer,” Ajri tweeted.
“Without US support, the Yemeni war would have ended in its first year.”
Blinken reacted furiously after Yemeni forces targeted Saudi Aramco facilities inside the kingdom with drones and missiles on Saturday.
“We once again urge the Houthis to agree to a comprehensive ceasefire immediately and to stop these cross-border attacks and attacks inside of Yemen, particularly their offensive on Ma'rib, which is exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and prolonging the conflict,” Blinken said, addressing the mainstream movement comprising the regular Yemeni army, which is resisting the Saudi aggression.
Ajri turned the tables on Washington, saying that "without political support of the United States, aggressor countries would not have been able to resist the pressures of the international community, and their leaders would have stood trials in international courts of law".
Last month, Yemen's Ansarullah spokesman Mohammed Abdul-Salam slammed the United States’ interference in Yemen, saying Washington was hindering a political resolution of the conflict.

In a post on his Twitter account at the time, Abdul-Salam said, “The US meddling in Yemen has led to the violation of national sovereignty through military acts of aggression.”

“The US brought Saudi Arabia and the UAE with itself and tried to activate al-Qaeda and Daesh" in Yemen, he said.

“Economically, they imposed a heavy siege, which caused disaster in all aspects of livelihood. The one who is preventing a political solution is America,” he added.

Saudi warplanes bomb Ta’izz

Early Wednesday morning, Saudi warplanes carried out more than a dozen airstrikes against various areas in Yemen’s southwestern province of Ta’izz.
[...]
Yemen’s al-Masirah television network reported that the aircraft pounded the mountainous Jabal Aman area, Ta’izz International Airport as well as At Ta'iziyah district on 15 occasions.

There were, however, no immediate reports about possible casualties or the extent of damage.

Saudi Arabia, backed by the US and regional allies, launched a war on Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing Ansarullah movement.

The war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead, and displaced millions more. It has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases.

Yemeni armed forces and allied Popular Committees, however, have grown steadily in strength against the Saudi-led invaders, and left Riyadh and its allies bogged down in the country.

"Sixty Huthi rebels were killed - most of them in air strikes conducted in the last 24 hours - while 18 pro-government troops were killed and dozens injured in clashes over the past 48 hours," a government military official said.
Aljazeera had short video from nov 3, 2019 that attempts to explain why Yemen is at war

Press TV had a documentary from April 1st 2020:
The documentary shows how Yemeni people from different tribes and clans unite to defend their country against the war which began in 2015 and was waged by the so-called coalition led by Saudi Arabia.

The Wiki for the Houthi Movement/Ansar Allah count their opponents including the so-called coalition to be:
Countries: Yemen Hadi Government, Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Egypt (until October 19, 2016)[1], Jordan, Morocco, Sudan, Senegal, USA, Somalia, Eritrea (according to the UN)
Group: Al-Qaeda, Islamist militants, Islamic State

10 Surprising Facts About Yemen
Yemen - 28 years of history
According to this video, the first problems for the unified new Yemen happened when they refused to join in the coalition against Iraq in the early 90'ies. The transcript says:

Soon after independence, the country takes a stand against intervention in Iraq during the Gulf War. In response the West and Arab countries cut off its financial support. Saudi Arabia meanwhile harasses the many Yemeni workers on its territory.

With the country in financial difficulty, and seeing no improvement,
Vice President al-Beidh leads the charge to regain independence for South Yemen. After a short civil war, the north prevails and the post of vice president is given to the Minister of Defense Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.

In 1997, a jihadist insurgency begins with al Qaeda in Yemen
that takes aim at loyalist forces and the United States.
The government launches a fight against the terrorist organization.

In spite of conflict, the Wiki on the demographics of Yemen shows:

The World Food Program announced today that it will reduce food rations for 8 million people in Yemen starting in January, warning the cuts will push more people into starvation.

The UN organization, which feeds 13 million Yemenis a month, has seen both a sharp increase in cost of food delivery, and a sharp drop in donations, both caused by Covid restrictions strangling the world economy.
-
Why does this matter?
Because U.S. weapons, and tax dollars, are currently fueling the unrest in Yemen between the Houthis in the north, and the US backed government in the south; and have been for years.

We utilized the Saudi government as an interventionist force, while at the same time sending hundreds of millions in aid that is used to fuel rebel forces.

Each administration has reversed policy decisions around the conflict, effectively funding and fueling both sides repeatedly over the past decade and a half.
-
We sold the KSA and UAE warplanes (and fueled, and directed them to start), but the Houthi rebels likewise use American money to buy their arms from Iran and other places, if not the US directly when convenient.

There are millions of innocent lives caught in this struggle, the same as there were in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and so on.

The endless wars have not been ended everywhere, and we must continue to raise our voices until they are.

Two news items are published on the same resource side by side. The US is looking for the source of the leak of secret data on the military operation against the Yemeni Houthis
The United States has expressed dissatisfaction with the leak of classified data on the military operation against the Yemeni Houthis, as reported by the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph. According to the publication, the British military is suspected of leaking classified information, and currently the British special services are looking for the "mole" behind this.

Recall that the decision to strike the targets of the Ansar Allah group in Yemen was made on January 11. The attacks involved the United States, Great Britain, Australia and Canada. However, even before the coalition planes took off, the British press revealed information about the upcoming bombing.

This decision by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to join the attacks without consulting parliament caused chaos and outrage at the Pentagon, as the US Department of Defense planned to announce the end of the attacks after they were carried out.

In Washington, President Biden's decision to bomb Houthi targets was met with criticism from Republicans, who accused him of launching military operations bypassing Congress.

According to the Ansar Allah group, the coalition strikes did not cause significant damage to the Houthi military infrastructure. Representatives of the movement also announced their intention to continue attacks on civilian vessels in the Red Sea.

Biden personally warned the Iranian president about the attack on Yemen
Following recent United States radar strikes in Yemen, Houthi militias have expressed the threat of a "strong and effective response." These US actions aimed at protecting shipping from possible attacks from Iran, an ally of the Houthis, are heightening tensions in the region.

The conflict in the Middle East began with a war between the Palestinian group Hamas and Israel and spread to Iran's allies in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq. US President Joe Biden said that the US had sent a private message to Iran about the Houthi attacks, but did not disclose details, only stressing that the preparations for the attacks were thorough.

Previously, the journalists of Avia. The Missile Defense System has already reported that an Iranian ship was seen evacuating urgently in the Red Sea about an hour ago, which also confirms the data that Tehran received a warning.

According to a number of sources, a warning was sent to the Iranian president about the inadmissibility of interfering in the situation in order to avoid conflict.
