Algerian and Morrocan Descendants and Immigrant Protests/Riots in France

True but worth bearing in mind that twitter
this video filmed in london is from sept 2022 -
I didn't say it was a fact, but the admission is duly noted.
But as I said, this is the kind of information that appears on the net, so we network to figure out the facts, and life goes on.

A new milestone was reached last night with the fire at the home of the mayor of L'Haÿ-les-Roses.All my thoughts are with Vincent Jeanbrun, his children and his wife, who is hospitalized today.

The wife of the mayor of #LhaÿLesRoses and their children were victims of an assassination attempt.Meanwhile Mélenchon and Rousseau keep barking, and Macron does nothing.Until when ?#emeutes #guerrecivile #etatdurgence

La France pourrait bientôt exploser - et Emmanuel Macron n'a que lui-même à blâmer

The Telegraph (France may soon explode – and Macron has only himself to blame)
France may soon explode – and Macron has only himself to blame
Most French oppose any kind of “defund the police” movement. Yet the actions of the French president are likely to encourage it

The sixth night of #riots in France:

- 352 fires on public roads
- 297 vehicles set on fire
- 34 buildings torched
- 45,000 police and gendarmes deployed
- 3 policemen and gendarmes injured
- 157 people arrested

FLASH - According to the IGPN, the police officers involved in Nahel's death did not yell "I'm going to put a bullet in your head" and "Shoot him" but rather "Cut! Hands behind your head". (France 2) #Nanterre
"Cut" here meaning, "Cut the engine".

According to Valeurs actuelles:
The General Inspectorate of the French National Police (IGPN) has analyzed the video recording of the tragedy that occurred in Nanterre on June 27.In a yellow Mercedes, 17-year-old Nahel was shot and killed by a police officer after refusing to comply with a traffic stop. The altercation between the young motorist in the vehicle and two police officers made the rounds on social networks. The footage has now been analyzed by the IGPN, which is in charge of the "voluntary manslaughter" investigation into the shooter. As reported by a journalist on Télématin on France 2 on Monday July 3, the IGPN contradicted the testimony of some passers-by, and found that the officer in question did not shout "I'm going to put a bullet in your head". Nor would his colleague have incited him to commit a crime by declaring: "Shoot him."

Footage sent to IRCGN gendarmes

According to the IGPN, the two officers gave the following order: "Turn it off! Hands behind your head. "Nahel reportedly replied to one of the law enforcement officers, "Move over." This would appear to be more of a warning than a threat.

To confirm this version, the IGPN forwarded the video to agents of the Institut de recherche criminelle de la gendarmerie nationale (IRCGN), says the journalist on Télématin. The IGPN's analysis has not prevented the police officer suspected of the shooting from being placed under investigation. He is still being held in pre-trial detention at the Santé prison.

Meanwhile, and according to Ouest-France, "the 17-year-old teenager who fled the scene of Nahel's death in Nanterre on Tuesday turned himself in to the police on Monday". It seems that he is now answering questions from the IGPN (Inspection générale de la Police nationale/General Inspectorate of the French National Police, the police of polices).

France has seen another night of unrest after the fatal shooting by police of a 17-year-old boy in a Paris suburb.
Images of the unrest, which has spread to other French cities, are being shared on social media. As well as genuine video, false and misleading claims are also circulating, with the potential to increase tensions.
BBC Verify has been investigating some of these.

The riot image from a French film

A striking image showing a group of young men driving a French police van, with one hanging out of the window brandishing a gun, has been shared on Twitter with the words "France, photo of the day".
A picture of a police car with rioters taken from a tweet and and labelled False

The tweet, posted early on 2 July had over 1.7m views but it's false - it's not from the current riots in France but is actually a still from a film.

BBC Verify examined the image and, searching for previous versions of it on the internet, found it was from the French film, Athena - a fictional account of rioting in a city suburb - made in 2022.

The people in the van and the blue motorcycle are exactly the same.

The person who posted the tweet later clarified that the image was meant to be of an "illustrative" nature, but not before it had been retweeted thousands of times. He subsequently deleted it.

Footage from another film

Footage of cars falling from the windows of a multi-story car park has been widely shared online, with the message: "WTF is going on in France…".

This is false - it is old footage and it looks like it has come from another film.

BBC Verify took images of the video and carried out an online search to see if it had appeared before. The search brought up a tweet from June 2016, which claimed the footage was from the set of the action movie, Fast and Furious 8 - which was filmed in Cleveland, Ohio. Using the information in that tweet, BBC Verify located the footage to a multi-storey car park on Prospect Avenue East in Cleveland.
The colors of the cars and the outside of the building match a scene from the film, which came out in 2017.

Old footage of a "sniper"

Over the past few days, a video has been shared repeatedly on Twitter and the messaging app, Telegram showing a hooded man, on a rooftop pointing what appears to be a rifle.

One Twitter user posted the video with the accompanying message: "Rioter in France takes up sniper position with stolen police rifle." Another account claims the rifle was stolen from a police van.

A Telegram user displayed the fire emoji next to the French flag and stated: "looters covered by a sniper."

The video has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times across different platforms and accounts and retweeted thousands of times.
But the video was not filmed during the current disturbances, it is old footage.

By searching for previous instances of the video on social media, BBC Verify can confirm it was posted on Twitter on 13 March, 2022.
The man's clothing, position on the rooftop and visible buildings are identical in both tweets.

It wasn't possible to confirm the exact location or whether the rifle was real or a replica gun.

One Twitter user, aware of the earlier instances of this video, commented that the alleged sniper must have "been there over a year now."
BBC Verify is looking at other examples of false and misleading posts about the French riots.

I post what's on tweeter. The tweets are what they are.
That's the problem, Ca. It's imperative that social media posts be pre-filtered before being embedded here. If we want to see what's being vomited up on Twitter, we'll go to Twitter. This is the Cassiopaea forum, where the members agree in principle to adhere to the highest possible standards of 'data-accumulation' and analysis (whether speculative or factual).

But as I said, this is the kind of information that appears on the net, so we network to figure out the facts, and life goes on.
Yes, but you are by now so experienced with the nonsense out there that gets passed for 'fact', you are perfectly capable of self-regulating the validity or usefulness of content before posting it here 'for networking'.

2 cents no offense. very interesting how generally even the French don't understand sh*t about what happened. anyone who has worked in the banlieues including yours truly can't help but smile in bewilderment. anyone including members of FOTCM who don't have media expertise shouldn't be spamming random twitter vel similia links (and this doesn't just apply to these riots). ah, and anyone who has seen athena knowing the background knows it's a good movie well made and much more complex than the 3d ad usum idiots theater put on constantly. very sad and very interesting together. I apologize for the unfriendly comment but still coming from the heart

The riots will eventually lose momentum and despite all the material damage, it's still pales relatively to the damage introduced by politicians via de-industrialization, covid-related destruction of jobs and the economy, etc.
However, this will leave the population divided, fragile, and ripe for the taking by a 'saviour'.
There is this remark in the 13 may 2017 session that may be an indication of where things might eventually be going:
....The first leaks from Macron's servers was those documents from a NATO/CIA-sponsored foundation in France that was pushing for a lot of migration and a lot of mosques and stuff. I was wondering if his main mission is to bring in migrants and stir things up to lead towards a civil war?

A: US wishes to destabilize EU similar to Syria so that they can come in and "fix" things. i.e. rule and control resources and trade the "American way". Everyone will speak English!
While everybody's debating which one's fault it is (the cop or the teenager), there might be (perhaps) some larger plans at play in the shadows.

After Belgium and Switzerland, another attempt in Montréal (Quebec - Canada)

Several people inspired by the riots in France gathered in downtown Montreal on Sunday evening. The sole aim seemed to be to provoke disorder, according to messages conveyed and shared on social networks.
Numerous SPVM police officers were on hand to prevent any outbursts.

According to the latest information, a 16-year-old was arrested for threatening a police officer.

Two statements of offence were also issued for taking part in a fight on public property.

For the moment, the SPVM is not reporting any mischief or damage.

That is interesting: Some comments above talked about the movie Athena, released in 2022 on Netflix, that some used on Social Networks to make fake news during riots. According to the French Wikipédia, the Nahel's family lawyer, Yassine Bouzrou, the star lawyer of the French Bar, performs in the Romain Gavras' movie.
Capture d’écran 2023-07-03 173007.jpg

The movie shows how a housing estate goes up in flames after the death of a young man blamed on the police. Yassine Bouzrou plays his own role as the lawyer of the family of the young man killed.

What? :wow:

Edit: clarity
