these appear to be Mammatus cloud formations for the most part. From my understanding they are created by a sharp change in barometric pressure, temperature, and wind shear at a lower altitudes. Because the cloud is so cold they are very thick in appearance. 		 I have seen clouds like 3, and something close to 7.  Some of the other ones are really quite amazing!
