Tucker does a great job analyzing how politicized the proposed US financial relief legislation (for those hit hard by the loss of income) has become in Washington. While watching it and re-realizing how truly insane many in the Democratic party have become (and our body politic as a whole), I could feel my chest tighten, and breathing shortened. Then I decided I'd just post it here and felt almost instantly better! :-)

Then I decided I'd just post it here and felt almost instantly better!

Here's a list of some of the things Pelosi wants, and why the Dems have so far rejected the stimulus package. Yes, they have lost their minds.

  1. Increased fuel emission standards for airlines receiving funds and carbon offsets:(1) IN GENERAL. Not later than 90 days after the enactment of this Act, the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration shall require each air carrier receiving assistance under section 101, to fully offset the annual carbon emissions of such air carriers for domestic flights beginning in 2025.

    (B) $10,000.
  3. Same-day voter registration, early voting, voting by mail, ballot harvesting
The bill includes several provisions on voting laws and regulations, as Democrats argue that the crisis should force the government to revisit voting regulations to make it easier to vote, allowing same-day voter registration and voting by mail, and mailing out ballots to absentee voters. Other voting fraud watchdogs raised flags about ballot harvesting and grants for conducting risk-limiting audits of election resultsSame-day registration:
    ‘‘SEC. 325. SAME DAY REGISTRATION.
    ‘‘(a) IN GENERAL.—
‘‘(1) REGISTRATION.—Each State shall permit any eligible individual on the day of a Federal election and on any day when voting, including early voting, is permitted for a Federal election—

It also requires federal agencies to use businesses and financial institutions owned by minorities or women.
  7. Post Office Bailout
UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE PAYMENT TO POSTAL SERVICE FUND

The Hill reported that Democrats want the bill to prop up Planned Parenthood, just another reason why bipartisan efforts have failed to reach a consensus.

she elaborated that THEY would be coming to the condo to vaccinate and just wanted to know if I wanted the vaccination. I said, no I'll do it latter and went to my apartment. Now I fear I will be painted by gossip and whispers as an identified, dangerous, foreigner anti-vaccer.

It's a tough one. Perhaps when you next see her or there is an opportunity, you could play dumb? Like telling her, I'm sorry, all this is very stressful, and I'm very thankful for what you are doing, and for the government etc. Make a compliment on how well she handles the situation and so on? Sometimes this can keep authoritarian followers away...

I had to go to the Department of Transport today. It was surreal.

They have placed a limit on the number of people allowed in the building. A staff member greets you at the door and asks if you've been overseas in the last 14 days, or exposed to anyone with the virus. They have taped cross marks on the pavement outside that are 1.5 meters apart and you are directed to stand on one of the crosses until someone exits the building so that you can enter.

Inside, the chairs in the waiting area are also spaced 1.5 meters apart and there is a taped line 1.5 meters away from the counter - you have to stay behind that line and not approach the counter any closer.

Over all, the mood seemed quite calm.

At the grocery shop they now advertise limit's per customer on the front of the shelves and have security guards at the front door. There were some bare shelves, some low on stock and others hardly touched. I had no issue getting the items that I was looking for. The shop looked messy and I guess that they have reduced staff because there doesn't seem to be anyone facing up the stock.

The upside was, there was no issue finding car parking and people seemed quite calm and considerate of each other.

i wanted to take a moment to thank you all so much for this thread. it has been a little difficult for me and i was writing last night how i have been feeling alone. i am trying to plant some seeds in my girlfriend and she seems receptive.. but she seems receptive because i believe it.. if that makes sense. she believes it because i believe it but i feel like she hasn't/ can't/doesn't want to accept it on her own accord.

I got scolded today by my husband for stockpiling. "There won't be any shortages, I keep telling you that!"Then he said he was sick and tired of my negative, apocalyptic outlook. He's under a lot of strain though, and his mood changed for the better soon after. I'm going to continue to stockpile, but more stealth is required on my part, not just regarding stockpiling.

In such situations, I think it's a good idea to be very "soft" on people. If you love your partner, you must allow him/her to come to their own conclusions and give them time. The Cs said that things in our realm take time - this goes for everything. You can gently express your doubts ("What I don't understand is that the death numbers are so low - maybe they will rise quickly? I'm not sure" etc.). Also, this is the time to work on relationships, being generous on how we interpret others' intentions, enjoying a good time together... Notice that the better and deeper our relationships, the more they can tolerate the odd quarrel and discord over what's happening. Be excellent to each other!

Another thing is that often we can learn a lot from others in our lives if we can manage to "hold back" some things we are absolutely sure of. Try to find aspects in what the other says that you haven't thought about. Maybe they have a point. And maybe it turns out that they were right and you were wrong - I have experienced it many times. Not to say that it isn't difficult when others buy into the hysteria, but then again, it's often very understandable.

One might wonder how an influenza vaccine increases the risk of getting coronavirus. Did this vaccine contain "dead" coronavirus that is after all not so "dead" hence the increase prevalence of coronavirus among the vaccinated soldiers?

Could also be the effect that if you don't catch one virus (because of vaccination), you then catch another. This seems to be the case, see:

But that doesn't mean that something else might not be going on.

From North of the 49th parallel, our esteemed PM (who is in isolation himself) decided to address the nation as apparently he does not like what he is seeing on videos, you know, people walking, bicycling, talking, getting together after months of winter being locked in their homes. They are locked in again. Now seeing people out and about is just too much for some as it is infuriating for them to see life going on around them. However the PM decided it was his turn to publicly shame Canadians of their ways, of their life, while bringing out the threat of fines and jail as an aside. Now some of us remember his dad rolling out the War Measures Act once before, and we are not there yet.

"Go home and stay home" was his message.

The main link has video of his stern fireside chat with Canadians (and he is scared, imo).

After reading peoples stories from across the world here on this thread; from continent to continent, country by country, one town and village after another, this has became a mass wave of STS global cruelty. It is and will be seen as nothing but unforgivable. For gods sake, people with their dying parents or grandparents can't even see their loved ones - I know many friends and families caught up like this and it is crushing them.

Even the politicians (well some seem to not hide their love of authoritarian power) are in shock at the trigger that was pulled. You see them in front of camera's and microphone's laying out previous or just enacted state measures, and their will is gone, it is etched in their face's - they have been told and they must see themselves now as only the political messengers of evil plots against the global citizens, and they damn well know it.

One can imagine many things that seemed to have been on a trajectory for a long time, and yet this, whoa, such a massively extreme bold move by the PTB. Now if this virus indeed is what has been explained by the C's, then yes they would be panicked, and whatever forces are working through them is helping to create desperation in trying to put it all back in the bottle. As for the immediate effects, it is just so damn sad to see what has become of so many people swooped up in their program - will they snap out, don't know, not all anyway. In this, though, one might be reminded the bad day, as the C's said, for the Rockefeller's and their like whereby even they don't see it coming. Their desperation only matches their moves.

Growing every day, many people are restless, they are awakening from the imposed shock, stripped of their savings and jobs, with many having their own run in with being sick themselves, and they are talking, sharing, and growing tired of the BS (and it is still early in this). And thus people will do what they will do and the state will try and do what they do, and that is a clash that is as of yet open.

Go home and stay home, Trudeau tells Canadians as government warns of COVID-19 enforcement measures
Random inspections, hotlines could be on the way to enforce rules to limit spread of virus

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is pleading with Canadians to follow public health guidelines on COVID-19, warning that stiff enforcement measures could be imposed if people don't stop engaging in behaviour that puts lives at risk.

As images emerged over the weekend of people gathering in groups at beaches and parks, and for parties, Trudeau said individuals taking part in such "extremely concerning" activities are putting not only themselves at risk but also health care workers, the elderly and other vulnerable people.

"We've all seen the pictures online of people who seem to think they're invincible. Well, you're not," he said.

"Enough is enough. Go home and stay home. This is what we all need to be doing, and we're going to make sure this happens, whether by educating people more on the risks, or by enforcing the rules, if that's needed. Nothing that could help is off the table."

'Enough is enough': PM Trudeau warns Canadians to follow social distancing measures
In his strongest language yet, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warns Canadians to follow social distancing measures and says the government will enforce the rules, if required.

Trudeau said the government has not ruled out any enforcement options. He's expected to speak with the premiers later today to discuss steps going forward.

Trudeau urged Canadians to follow the recommendations of public health officials, who are asking Canadians to practise frequent handwashing and social distancing, stay home whenever possible, avoid non-essential travel and self-isolate in cases where there has been a risk of exposure to the virus.

"We have to trust them and we have to listen," Trudeau said.

Trudeau's remarks come as the federal government launches a $30-million advertising campaign to raise awareness about measures to stop the spread of infection.

The ads, featuring Canada's chief public health officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, will run for the rest of March and at least through April on all Canadian television networks and radio stations across the country, as well as in national, regional and local print outlets.

In the ads, Tam warns that the COVID-19 pandemic presents a "serious public health threat" and reminds Canadians of the importance of the measures to help delay the spread of COVID-19. By slowing the rate of new infections {slowing the curve chart}, officials hope to lessen the burden on the health care system.

There are now more than 1,550 confirmed cases, and at least 20 deaths, in Canada.

Speaking outside his residence at Rideau Cottage, Trudeau said there will be a $5-billion credit program to support farmers. He also announced $192 million in new funding for the development and production of vaccines to stop the spread of the virus.

Trudeau remains in self-isolation because of his wife Sophie's positive test for COVID-19.

Some provinces recommending isolation for domestic travellers

Every province and territory has now declared either a state of emergency or a public health emergency, but to date the federal government has not invoked the Emergencies Act, which would give it special powers to enforce quarantines and limit movement.

Some provinces have adopted their own rules, which include mandatory self-isolation upon arrival from another province.

Health Minister Patty Hajdu also implored Canadians to take the recommendations of public health officials seriously. She warned that new measures could be imposed, such as a public hotline for reporting people who violate public health instructions {Canadian always had a Nazi Problem}

"There are a number of ways that quarantine orders can be enforced and those could include random inspections, those could include hotlines," she said.

"There are a number of different kinds of ways that these kinds of things can be enforced and we are looking at a variety of measures should we take that step."

'Hotlines' could be used to enforce quarantine measures

Health Minister Patty Hajdu says there are a number of ways quarantine measures can be enforced by the government, including random inspections and hotlines.

Some cities are imposing or considering fines for breaking rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

At a virtual council meeting Monday, Vancouver city council unanimously passed a motion allowing the city to fine businesses up to $50,000 and individuals up to $1,000 for breaking public health rules while the city is in a state of emergency.

Hajdu said Sunday the government is also considering the option of imposing financial or criminal penalties on Canadian travellers who don't follow the government's advice.

The Quarantine Act, which was updated in 2005 after the deadly SARS outbreak, gives the federal health minister the power to designate quarantine zones and fine or jail travellers who disobey quarantine requests.

If a designated quarantine officer believes that a traveller has refused to isolate themselves, they can ask a peace officer to arrest the traveller and bring them into quarantine.

Mental health concerns

Hajdu, meanwhile, acknowledged that social distancing measures could have a severe impact on mental health. She said the government is developing a new app for people to download to support their mental health needs {:umm:}.

Hajdu also warned of an elevated risk of domestic violence and child abuse when families are cooped up in close quarters and worried about money and the future.

"These are real and live issues that we haven't forgotten about," she said. {right, just the causation of}

The House of Commons will reconvene Tuesday to adopt emergency measures announced earlier this week by the federal government to help Canadians and businesses hit financially by the health crisis.

Trudeau announced a massive $82-billion aid package that includes $27 billion in direct supports and another $55 billion to help business liquidity through tax deferrals.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said Monday that more should be done to help struggling Canadians; he suggested a payment of $2,000 per person plus $250 per child for immediate assistance. He also proposed a wage subsidy of 75 per cent so employers can keep staff on the payroll.

"These are two measures that are bold, but respond to the seriousness of the situation that we're up against. So we need to immediately give Canadians help and we need to ensure that people are not losing their jobs," he said.

Trudeau spoke today with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and is also expected to talk to Japan's prime minister, Shinzo Abe.

As COVID-19 cases mount around the world, the committees responsible for Canada's involvement in Olympic and Paralympic sport have decided they won't be sending athletes to Tokyo if the 2020 Summer Olympics go ahead as planned.

Apparently there is a DNR provision widely accepted. Maybe there could be a way to have a DNV option as well? Just thinking.

May have missed this, if posted, by John Pilger back on the 12th. If so, it might be worth a read again:

A PANDEMIC IS DECLARED, BUT NOT FOR THE STARVING, THE PREVENTABLE SICK, THE BLOCKADED, THE BOMBED
12 March 2020
cv_copy.jpg

A pandemic has been declared, but not for the 24,600 who die every day from unnecessary starvation, and not for 3,000 children who die every day from preventable malaria, and not for the 10,000 people who die every day because they are denied publicly-funded healthcare, and not for the hundreds of Venezuelans and Iranians who die every day because America's blockade denies them life-saving medicines, and not for the hundreds of mostly children bombed or starved to death every day in Yemen, in a war supplied and kept going, profitably, by America and Britain. Before you panic, consider them.

Reporting from the Southern Cone. As you know almost all countries here are under lockdown with varying degrees between and within each country.

What surprised me today was the vaccination issue. As this crisis coincided timing-wise with the governmental health authority's push for the annual flu vaccination which I always ignore, I was surprised when the secretary of the condo I lived in came out of her office as she saw me pass by to inquire if I would be getting the vaccination. Stumped by such a question from her, she elaborated that THEY would be coming to the condo to vaccinate and just wanted to know if I wanted the vaccination. I said, no I'll do it latter and went to my apartment. Now I fear I will be painted by gossip and whispers as an identified, dangerous, foreigner anti-vaccer. This does not bode well for the future when the official Corona virus vaccine is released. If it will be mandatory, I hope I can find a way to wiggle out of it (maybe a bribe?).

@on_strike_usaexpat you have had some good suggestions already but is there also a way to just be out of the building when they come to vaccinate?
