WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT FEBRUARY 19_2024
Moderate levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24 hours. M5.2 quake shook southeastern Pakistan, but the closest significant population center near the earthquake is Bandipura, India located 113 kilometer north of the epicenter. No aftershocks have been detected within 100 km of the epicenter. Aftershocks are usually at least 1 order of magnitude less strong than main shocks. The more time passes, the smaller the chance and likely strength of any potential aftershocks. There are no reports of damage or casualties.
In South America, Peru and Ecuador were shaken by M5+ earthquakes. The earthquakes in Peru registered M5.1, one of them occurred at the boundaries of the Nazca and South American plates and one more intra-plate in the Chazuta region within the South American plate with a intermediate depth of 106 km The closest significant population center near the earthquake is La Banda in San Martín, Peru. La Banda is located 13 kilometer east of the epicenter. There are no reports of damage or casualties.
On the other hand, a M5.1 earthquake occurred northwest of Ecuador in maritime territory, so no damage or casualties were reported and the earthquake did not warrant a tsunami warning.
The total number of earthquakes recorded worldwide in the last 24 hours has decreased to 805 which is within the normal range of activity.
According to Volcano earthquake report, volcano earthquake swarm occurred in:
Strongest volcanic earthquake occurred at Parker volcano with a magnitude of 3.1 located 37 km west of General Santos City, Philippines, on Monday, Feb 19, 2024, at 04:59 pm (Manila time)
