The closest larger town where the quake might have been felt is Contamana, a town with 14,000 inhabitants in Peru, in 86 km distance northeast of the epicenter. USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. No aftershocks have been recorded so far. The earthquake was the strongest to hit this part of Peru in over 5 years.
