One question, are these sanctions too?
In Norway, 40 deer were killed, who ate too much in Russia and returned home. Why were they killed and why were the animals not spared?
In Norway, 40 deer were killed, for which Russia demanded hundreds of millions of rubles

In Norway, 40 reindeer were killed, which crossed the border of Russia and grazed on the Russian half of the Pasvik Nature Reserve in the Murmansk region. This happened after Russia accused Norway of illegal grazing and demanded hundreds of millions of rubles in compensation.

Why were reindeer killed in Norway
In the winter of 2023, 42 reindeer from the Norwegian province of Finnmark crossed the border and grazed on the territory of the Murmansk Region for more than two months.

In January, 40 deer were caught and handed over to Norway. The Russian side estimated the damage caused by the animals at 47 million Norwegian kroner (about 420 million rubles). The director of the reserve Natalia Polikarpova told the Bi-Port agency that she provided the Norwegian side with detailed calculations and documents on the basis of which they were carried out.

The damage was estimated according to the formula taking into account the number of days the deer stayed in the reserve and the number of heads multiplied by a kilogram of meat in a deer carcass (on average, 150 kilograms of meat from one deer) and multiplied by the cost of a kilogram of meat at an average price in Norway. They have special websites where this information is indicated

Director of the Russian part of the Pasvik Nature Reserve
The Murmansk directorate of Pasvik intended to seek in court not only this amount, but also additional compensation of 2 million Norwegian kroner (about 18 million rubles), that is, 50 thousand kroner (445 thousand rubles) for each deer that violated the border.

In July, it was reported that Norwegian officials had not yet formed a position on this issue and were going to meet with the leadership of the Russian part of Pasvik to discuss what had happened. According to them, they considered it their priority to restore the fence on the border of the reserve, the gaps in which the deer took advantage of.

According to Polikarpova, by the beginning of August, the Norwegian side had not given a definite answer to the request. And on August 25, it became known that they decided to kill all the deer that had visited Russia. This was done to prevent them from crossing the border again and causing even greater losses.

Why they don't want to let Norwegian reindeer into Russia
The reindeer killed belonged to the Sami, an indigenous people living in central and Arctic Norway. Although they grazed unattended and moved to Russia on their own, the management of the Russian part of the reserve considers them not wild animals, but livestock.

If we had wild reindeer, then there would be no questions for Norway, since it would be a common population. According to Russian national legislation, the presence of cattle on the territory of the reserve is not allowed. Reindeer husbandry refers to animal husbandry as one of the categories of agriculture

Natalia Polikarpova
Director of the Russian part of the Pasvik Nature Reserve
According to Polikarpova, the exchange of deer was stipulated in the Russian-Norwegian agreement of 1977. This has happened in the past — for example, in 2019, Norwegian reindeer herders were also given animals that wandered abroad. At the same time, representatives of the reserve, as well as the Russian and Norwegian border commissariats were present.

The unfairness of the situation, according to Polikarpova, lies in the fact that reindeer feed in Russia and then return to their homeland. "It turns out that reindeer eat them here, and then Norwegian reindeer herders use them for meat," she explains. At the same time, even 40 deer, as she claims, can have a significant impact on the lichen cover and lead to soil erosion.

How Norway will stop reindeer at the border
The transborder nature reserve "Pasvik" is located on the territory of Russia, Norway and Finland and occupies more than 14 thousand hectares. Two—thirds of the reserve is covered by forests, the remaining area is mainly swamps. Bears and moose live on the Russian side, but there are no reindeer — they all come from Norway.

In 1954, a fence about 150 kilometers long was built on the Soviet-Norwegian border, which prevented deer from wandering from Norway to the Murmansk region. Almost 70 years have passed since then, the fence has become dilapidated and no longer copes with its task.

It is necessary to solve the issue in principle so that deer do not end up on the Russian side, so that they do not eat and trample lichen cover and do not damage our fragile forest ecosystems

Norway has already begun to restore the fence. The difficulty lies in the fact that construction work should be carried out only on the Norwegian side. We have to constantly make sure that workers do not accidentally end up on the territory of another country. "This makes the job particularly difficult," Magnar Evertsen, a representative of the Norwegian agricultural agency, said.

First of all, seven kilometers of fencing between the Norwegian cities of Hamborgvatnet and Storskog will be replaced. It is expected that the work will cost 3.7 million Norwegian kroner (32.8 million rubles) and will be completed by the beginning of October. Thus, Norway intends to prevent the further passage of animals to the territory of Russia.

Igor Strelkov announced his candidacy for President of Russia
Former DPR Defense Minister Igor Strelkov (Girkin), who is currently in custody on charges of extremism, put himself forward for the post of president of Russia and even provided a list of arguments why, in his opinion, he could be a more suitable candidate than the current head of state.

On the eve of Strelkov's associates announced the creation of an all-Russian public movement in his support. They expect to register it with the Ministry of Justice under the name "Russian Strelkov Movement" (RDS). Such decisions were announced following the results of the congress of the movement held in Moscow on August 29.

The organizers claim that their primary task is not the release of Strelkov from jail, but rehabilitation and termination of proceedings on the charges brought against him. In addition, as stated by the chairman of the central council of the RDS Oleg Nelzin, the movement considers Strelkov a worthy candidate to participate in the presidential elections.

The Congress, according to its organizers, unanimously elected Strelkov himself as the leader of the movement. Other people also joined the leadership: Oleg Nelzin, Dmitry Kostenyuk and the leader of the Civil Solidarity movement Georgy Fedorov. As a result, it was also decided to create a youth movement of the RDS. The participants of the RDS were interested not only in the fate of Strelkov, but also in the ideals of the Russian Spring, which they will actively promote.

The main arguments that Igor Strelkov brought in favor of his candidacy:

— Military Experience: One of the main arguments that Strelkov put forward in his defense is his experience in military matters. He focused on his ability to understand military affairs and argued that it was critically important for the security of the country.
— Distrust: Strelkov expressed the opinion that he is less trusting than the current president of Russia. He claims that his experience working in difficult field conditions and on the front line allowed him to develop a more cautious attitude to information and decisions.
— Character: The former DPR Defense Minister stressed that he is not as "kind" and "soft" as the current president. He believes that a more severe character can be important for effective leadership of the country.
— Financial independence: In his list of arguments, Strelkov stated that he has no millionaire friends, which, in his opinion, makes him more independent from the influence of oligarchs.
— Promises and implementation: He also stressed that he had never promised anything to anyone, which, in his opinion, makes him a more reliable candidate, able to turn words into deeds.
— Long-term sustainability: A very interesting argument was his statement that he is not so athletic and healthy that he will not be "annoying for 20 years", implying that he is more inclined to long-term sustainability in politics.

"I read Igor Strelkov's letter about my candidacy for the presidency of the Russian Federation. He lists his advantages there in comparison with Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, and from this comparison it turns out that Putin is the coolest person. I think that, in fact, this letter from Strelkov is a request for clemency," Marina Akhmedova, a member of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation, wrote in her telegram channel.

Earlier, Igor Strelkov's wife accused the convoy service of negligence and endangering the safety of her husband. According to Miroslava Reginskaya, when Strelkov was taken from the Lefortovo detention center to court, "he was traveling in a paddy wagon with Ukrainian citizens accused of war crimes in Mariupol." The information was allegedly passed on by a lawyer. "This kind of practice poses a potential threat to my husband," Strelkov's wife said.

On the eve of the Moscow City Court rejected the appeal of Strelkov's defense and refused to soften his preventive measure to house arrest.

This post is going to be borderline off-topic in this thread, however if the conclusion of the author of the video linking the explosion of Prigo's plane and the other unfortunates to the very people who blew up the Nord Stream pipelines proves to be true, this may be a more serious security issue than the incursions into Russian territory by Ukrainian drones.

The news speaks for itself. The only thing I would like to note is Erdogan's insistence on calling Putin to Turkey, which, after all the Turkish antics of recent times, looked impossible. However, he tried to insist on it. What's it? Losing touch with reality?
Erdogan arrived at the sanatorium "Rus", where he will hold talks with Putin

The President of Russia personally greeted his counterpart
SOCHI, September 4. /tass/. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has arrived in Sochi. Russian President Vladimir Putin personally greeted his counterpart in front of the entrance to the Imperial building of the Rus Sanatorium, where Russian-Turkish negotiations will be held in the Green Hall.

As the Kremlin's press service previously reported, "it is planned to discuss issues of further development of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation, as well as topical international issues." It is expected that the focus will be on the resumption of the grain deal and the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.

Firstly, I'm not sure that this is the right place for this news, so I wouldn't mind if it was moved to a more suitable place.
Secondly, in fact, I had no doubt that this process would go ahead. Some optimists in Russia believed and still believe that the "freezing" of assets is a kind of temporary phenomenon. Obviously, this is not the case.
Thirdly, it was easy enough to assume that the beginning of the process would be laid in the Baltic States. The process of freezing-confiscation of assets is completely illegal and it is impossible to foresee all the consequences either in the short or long term, and therefore it is the Balts, as the least valuable members of the Western community, who are instructed to start and, accordingly, grab all the "bumps" if something goes wrong as the big uncles plan.
An analogy with rats involuntarily suggests itself. Their families are arranged in the same way: a young rat will always be the first to try something new, unknown, and old, adult individuals will wait for the results.
Estonia plans to become the first EU country to legalize the seizure of Russian assets to finance Ukraine this year
Estonia has announced its intention to become the first European Union country to adopt a law on the confiscation of Russian assets to finance Ukraine this year. According to the country's Foreign Minister Margus Tsakhkna, the relevant bill will receive government approval in the next two weeks and will then be submitted to parliament for consideration.

"This decision will really hit the Russian oligarchs and the state," Tsakhkna said, adding that Estonia is ready for potential lawsuits from the Russian Federation. The possible amount of confiscated assets may amount to about 35 million euros.

Such actions on the part of Estonia are completely illegal, however, Tallinn prefers to ignore international norms, probably believing that other EU countries will follow a similar path.

Firstly, I'm not sure that this is the right place for this news, so I wouldn't mind if it was moved to a more suitable place.

Not sure where to move it, although Events in Russia could include Events Against Russia.

Estonia has announced its intention to become the first European Union country to adopt a law on the confiscation of Russian assets to finance Ukraine this year.

Could just as easily be in the Putin Recognizes Donbass Republics, Sends Russian Military to 'Denazify' Ukraine thread, as it is Ukraine/Russia related.

Whatever the case, an idiotic move by Estonia, and no doubt down the road there will be hell to pay if they make good on their intentions.

Putin, as they say, has already arrived in Vladivostok, now Kim has gone there. Any contacts with this closed country are always interesting.
Kim Jong-un went to meet with Vladimir Putin
According to the South Korean TV channel YTN, Kim Jong-un, the supreme leader of the DPRK, left Pyongyang today to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The summit between the two leaders is expected to take place on September 13.

A senior government official confirmed the information that Kim Jong-un went on a special train. It is known that the North Korean leader prefers rail transport during his foreign visits, and this choice becomes a continuation of this tradition.

Although the details of the upcoming summit have not yet been disclosed, it is expected that issues of bilateral relations, nuclear issues of the DPRK, as well as regional and global security issues will be on the agenda.

It is worth noting that relations between Russia and the DPRK have historically remained friendly, and both countries regularly emphasize the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Summary of what Putin said today
"He is no longer Anatoly Borisovich Chubais, but Moshe Israelevich." What Putin said at the Eastern Economic Forum
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, speaking at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum, listed the conditions necessary for the start of peace talks with Kiev: the cancellation of the Ukrainian decree on the impossibility of such negotiations and the stopping of the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In his speech, the Head of state also touched upon the situation with the ruble exchange rate, fuel prices, the expansion of the Far Eastern mortgage program, demographics and the situation of migrants in the Russian Federation.

The President also touched upon the topic of Rusnano and its former head Anatoly Chubais. Putin expressed bewilderment why Anatoly Chubais "ran away and is hiding." He suggested that such actions may be caused by fears of criminal cases due to a financial hole in the company "Rusnano", which Chubais previously headed. "The fact that Anatoly Borisovich is hiding there for some reason. I was shown large photos from the Internet, where he is no longer Anatoly Borisovich Chubais, but Moshe Israelevich. Why is he doing this? I don't understand why he ran away? There, you see, it may also be due to the fact that complex processes are going on in this structure of nanotechnology, which he headed for many years, and there is a big hole, a huge financial hole, big numbers," Putin said at the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF).

"But there, thank God, there are no criminal cases, prosecutions. Maybe this is due to the fact that he fears that eventually all this will lead to the emergence of some criminal cases. Therefore, in Israel, he even switched to an illegal position. To be honest, I don't understand why he needs it," the head of state continued.

Moderator of the forum, journalist Ilya Doronov noted that in July an article by Anatoly Chubais entitled "Non-payments in the Russian economy of the 90s" was published in the Russian magazine "Questions of Economics". The Unforeseen Institute", where the ex-head of Rusnano is represented as an independent British scientist. The presenter asked the president if he trusted British scientists. In response, Putin said that he trusts scientists, regardless of their nationality, when it comes to serious researchers. "I don't just trust, I admire their work, their life, the results of their work. Because a real scientist is immersed in the topic he is engaged in. And these people put their whole lives on the cause to which they dedicated it. They don't even regret their lives," the Russian leader said, noting that there are a large number of such examples both in Russia and abroad.

Another thing, according to the President of Russia, is when "they are engaged in fooling around." "These are certainly not scientists. These are then quasi-scientists. They entertain the audience. Well, not bad either. Let them fool around. Although you can go to the circus and see something in the circus," Putin said, which caused applause and laughter from the audience. He added that he had not read Chubais' article. "Maybe he wrote something useful," the head of state noted. According to Putin, Chubais failed to work at Rusnano. "Apparently, such activity at the head of a large company that was created for the development of nanotechnology, at least from an economic point of view, from a financial point of view, it seems that he clearly failed," Putin said.

The Central Bank's decision to raise the key rate was caused, among other things, by the need to reduce inflation risks. "Yes, it reduces the opportunities for lending, slightly constrains the development of the economy, but a significant factor is the reduction of inflationary risks." "There are no good and very good solutions here. There are difficult solutions here. But they need to be taken in a timely manner. Both the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and the government have done this very effectively so far." "The government did not react in a timely manner to changes in the world market due to the rise in oil prices, but this is a regulated position. In general, manufacturers and the government have agreed among themselves how they will act in the near future."

In the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District, special mortgage conditions apply: the amount is up to 6 million rubles, the term is up to 20 years, the rate is 2%. "With the help of this tool, more than 78 thousand families have already purchased or built new housing." The President proposed to raise the upper limit of the loan to 9 million for those who wish to purchase their housing with an area of over 60 square meters, as well as to increase the coverage of this program again, to make a mortgage at 2% affordable for employees of the Far Eastern enterprises of the military-industrial complex.

In Russia, the average life expectancy is growing. In 2021, she was 71 years old, and now she is 73.6. At the same time, the country is now going through a phase of another demographic pit. The number of migrants in the Russian labor market is now not so large in relation to the total number of working citizens — only 3.7%. However, it is very important to prevent the formation of migrant ghettos in the Russian Federation, as it happens in some foreign countries. "We may not need such a large influx of migrants if we introduce new technologies that do not require a large number of workers."

About 160-170 cultural figures who disagree with the policy of the Russian state have left abroad. "If a talented person who could do something here left, we probably lost something. But on the other hand, I'll be honest, maybe it's better if he does it abroad, the interests of which he wants to serve, than here he will drip on the brains of millions of our citizens and promote some non-traditional values."

The Russian law on foreign agents is almost a tracing paper from the American one, but it is much more liberal, and no one in the Russian Federation is "rowing". Putin also stressed that he constantly asks law enforcement agencies to make proposals to improve the procedure for foreign agents. Answering the question whether it is possible to get out of this status, the president confirmed that it is possible: "And there are such precedents, through a court decision."

Statements by several businessmen, including Arkady Volozha, co-founder of the Yandex Internet company, about a special military operation, as a rule, are associated with their desire to preserve their own business and assets abroad. Volozh is a talented person who has created a "really good company". "He lives in Israel, and I can imagine that in order to live there at a good level and have good relations with the authorities, he is forced to make certain statements. He sat silent for a long time, then decided to make a statement. To be honest, it doesn't particularly bother us."

Purchases of cars of domestic production for civil servants will begin soon. "They may look more modest than Mercedes or Audi, which began to be bought in huge quantities in the 1990s, but nothing." Aurus cars will become twice as cheap when they really enter the Russian car market, now they are produced little.

"If the United States believes that Ukraine is ready for negotiations, then let [there] then cancel the decree of the President of Ukraine, which prohibits negotiations, there is also a decree issued by the president — he forbade himself to negotiate and everyone else." Russia cannot stop fighting if the enemy is leading a counteroffensive. "What should we do? They will counterattack, and we will say: "And we are stopping." We are not Trotskyists." As a result of the counteroffensive, Ukraine has suffered heavy human losses — 71.5 thousand people since the beginning of the operation.

Over the past six to seven months, 270 thousand people have signed a contract for service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and volunteer units. 1-1.5 thousand people go to contract service every day. "Our men, Russian men understand what awaits them, that they can give their lives for their homeland, get seriously injured, they still go to it consciously and voluntarily." "They protect the interests of the motherland."

Recently, Ukrainian saboteurs who planned an attack on a nuclear facility in Russia were detained. "At the same time, they testified during the interrogation that they were trained under the guidance of British instructors." "Do they even understand what they are playing with? In general, do the British leadership and the Prime Minister know what their special services are doing in Ukraine? Or maybe they don't know at all? I also admit that, in turn, the British special services operate under the leadership of the same Americans."

"There will be no fundamental changes in the Russian direction in US foreign policy, no matter who is elected president." "The current authorities have set up American society in an anti—Russian way and spirit - that's what it's all about. They did it, and now it will be very difficult to turn this ship in the other direction somehow." The persecution in the United States of former President Donald Trump, who claims to return to the White House, is "a persecution for political reasons of his political rival." "And this is being done in front of the public of the United States and the whole world. They just exposed their internal problems."

Russia has never been a colonizer anywhere. "Our cooperation has always been based on an equal basis or with a desire to help and support. And those countries that are trying to compete with us now, they just carried out a completely different policy." At the same time, Moscow has long recognized that the introduction of Soviet tanks into Hungary and Czechoslovakia was a "mistaken" policy that "led only to tension in relations."

So far we have to talk about it so that we don't have to apply it.
Russian strategic missile carriers Tu-160 received X-BD cruise missiles
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has officially announced the introduction of new X-BD cruise missiles into the armament of strategic supersonic Tu-160 bombers. According to the data provided, the range of the new missiles is more than 6,500 km, which makes them one of the longest-range in their class.

This upgrade of bomber armament significantly enhances the potential of the Russian strategic aviation component, allowing it to respond effectively to various military threats, even being at a considerable distance from a potential enemy.

The Tu-160 bomber is one of the key elements of Russia's nuclear shield. It is capable of carrying up to 12 cruise missiles on board, which makes it one of the most powerful aerial means of delivering nuclear weapons.

The introduction of new X-BD missiles into the Tu-160 armament confirms Russia's desire to strengthen its strategic capabilities and enhance the dissipative effect of its nuclear arsenal. It can also be seen as a response to the constantly updated military technologies and armed forces of Western countries.

Russia "warmly" and properly welcomes Finland as a new member of NATO. I wonder why this surprises the Finns? Probably it was necessary to prepare for such a reaction even before making a decision on joining.
"Extremely fast. The Russians appeared in just 24 hours": Russia deployed four military bases with missile weapons near the Finnish border in a day
In the Murmansk region, on the territory located just 50 km from the Finnish border in the Petrozavodsk district, active actions were observed to restore and strengthen four Soviet military bases. In 24 hours, the territories that previously seemed abandoned were populated by military personnel and equipped with missile systems. Information on this subject is provided by the publication "Pentapostagma".

Finland's Defense Minister, Andi Hakanen, expressed deep surprise at these actions, stressing that the northern Russian garrisons have not expanded since the Soviet Union. He pointed out the possibility of a threat to the American military presence in Finland.

"Extremely fast. The Russians appeared in just 24 hours," says the Finnish Defense Minister,

According to Hakanen, the deployment of Russian bases happened "extremely quickly", and he is surprised by the speed and coordination of Russia's actions. According to his information, the latest technologies adapted to the harsh conditions of the region were used to upgrade military facilities.

It becomes obvious that Finland's decision to join NATO in April of this year, moving away from the long-standing policy of neutrality, caused a certain reaction from Russia. An equally significant factor in these actions is probably the so-called "Northern Passage" to Canada, which, due to global warming and melting of the Arctic ice, may become a new geopolitical "hot spot" between Russia and the United States.
"Чрезвычайно быстро. Русские появились всего за 24 часа": Россия за сутки развернула четыре военных базы с ракетным оружием у границы Финляндии

Россия горячо и как положено приветствует Финляндию, как нового члена НАТО. Интересно, почему это удивляет финнов? Наверно надо было готовиться к подобной реакции еще до принятия решения о вступлении.
