Russia Begins Operations in Syria: End Game for the US Empire?

This could get interesting. It might even get catastrophic.

I think, it all boils down to "awareness" and building up a knowledge base of information, with hands on application, to help navigate our immediate environment and interact with the events surrounding us. Naturally, when faced with a problem or sudden event, it's best to be familiar with a wide variety of options, to increase the methods, by which you can go about in resolving an issue. Like many here, I've had my shares of "up's and down's" and can "feel" we're on the threshold of something major happening in our environment ..... and things are going to get worse, before the pendulum moves again.

Laura has mentioned, "History repeats itself."

I find that to be the case in what's happening in Syria now and it involves the same "player's" only the faces and names have changed.
This melodrama actually began 60 years ago with a proxy war in 1957. A recent article in Sputnik unveiled the circumstances.

Secret British Papers on Syria Reveal Russian Role
http://sputniknews.com/analysis/20151030/1029356237/secret-uk-papers-syria-russian-role.html (short condensed version)

Top secret British Cabinet papers about the Syria crisis of 1957 help understand why Russia is supporting the Syrian government of today.

Oct. 30, 2015 - While efforts at finding a political solution to the current Syria crisis are being stepped up by all interested parties, experts on the Middle East look back to the 1950s when the foundations of this extremely shaky edifice were laid down by the West.

Top secret Cabinet papers dating back to September 1957 reveal that the British government was quite uneasy of the possible consequences of the US policy of "regime change" in Syria. Moscow's reaction to the American policy on Syria, the British ministers observed, "could be expected to be strong and determined, and they [Moscow] would try to frustrate it by every means short of those which, in their judgement, would be likely to involve them in a war with the West."

The Red Line

Indeed, the Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev protested the overthrow of the Syrian government by the West in the strongest possible way, and even hinted at a possible military action to defend Damascus. The British ministers' biggest worry, as the secret papers reveal, was that "the Russians might again threaten the United Kingdom with atomic missiles if they [UK] supported action against Syria."

A year earlier, such a threat did stop the British-French-Israeli aggression against Egypt over the nationalization of the Suez Canal, in its tracks. Syria, who supported Egypt in its quest for sovereignty, attracted unwelcome attention to herself.

Moscow drew the red line again and stuck to it. After some very dangerous posturing by Turkey and the United States, the crisis was eventually resoled.

So what was going on back in 1957 in the Middle East?

In August 1957, the Syrian military went into the office of the head of the country's intelligence service and betrayed a CIA plot to overthrow the government, surrendering the money they had received from the Americans. Tit for tat expulsions of US and Syrian diplomats followed, and instead of defusing the scandal, Washington went from a covert subversion into a highly public offensive, coercing Syria's neighbors and members of the Baghdad Pact, a Middle Eastern clone of NATO, into a war coalition against Damascus.

'Spirit of the West'

This was not the first attempt at "regime change" in Syria. The first, unsuccessful, plan to overthrow the Syrian Government was hatched as early as 1949. CIA's "Operation Straggle" in the fall of 1956, failed simply because of the Suez War in which Washington decided to play the "peacemaker" for its own geostrategic benefit. Ticking off Britain, France and Israel for their aggression against Egypt while attacking another Arab country would back Washington's claim of being the defender of freedom in the Middle East against both the Old World colonialism, and "communist encroachment".

Let alone the monarchies of Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq and Jordan were hardly representative of the "free world", Syria was nowhere near falling under the communist influence. Together with Egypt she was a champion of Arab nationalism and a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement — and that's what did not suit Washington.

The goal of the American Middle East policy formulated by President Eisenhower was to "weaken objectively the intellectual appeal of neutralism and to predispose its adherents toward the spirit of the West."

To this end the US President ordered an intensive psychological warfare against Syria, which was staunchly neutralist. The aim was "to create a pro-US, anti-Soviet opinion climate" in which Syria could have been taken firmly into the western fold.

No wonder, the secret papers reveal British apprehension that such a campaign would only help to depict Syria "… as an innocent victim of a threatened aggression by the United States, United Kingdom and France, who were using reactionary Arab regimes to serve their imperialist aims of crushing Arab nationalism in the interests of oil companies and Israel." Soviet propagandists could not have put it better than the British ministers did!

'Stupidest Action'

And not only them: a US diplomat in Syria at the time, Deane Hinton, cabled to Washington:

"I want to go on record as saying that this is the stupidest, most irresponsible action a diplomatic mission like ours could get itself involved in, and that we've started a series of these things that will never end."

They do indeed continue to this day. What averted the turn to the worst back in 1957 was western understanding that Moscow was prepared to defend Syria's independence by all means.

The secret British memorandum of September 1957 lists options open to Moscow:

"(ii) The flow of weapons to Syria might be increased…

(iii) Soviet naval units might be moved into the Mediterranean…

(iv) Increasing numbers of "volunteers", especially technicians, advisers and specialists could be sent to Syria.

(vi) Soviet aircraft might be flown to Syria in force."

Back in 1957 western realization that Moscow was dead serious about defending Syria did knock diplomatic heads together and the crisis was defused by November that year. However, the plotting against the staunchly independent Syria never stopped, and before the "Free Syrian Army" there were "Free Syria Committees" set up by the same forces.

The release of the British Cabinet's secret assessment of Moscow-Damascus relationship could not be timelier. They show that this relationship goes back at least 60 years, and should be respected. There is now hope that this November may become the starting point for a political solution of the long-running Syria crisis.

US Air Force’s experimental rocket spirals out of control after launching from Hawaii (video)
http://www.theverge.com/2015/11/4/9668734/strypi-rocket-launch-failure-department-of-defense-hawaii

Nov. 4, 2015 - A small, experimental rocket meant to carry 13 communication satellites into space for the Department of Defense failed just one minute after launching from Hawaii last night, according to the US Air Force. Video footage of the event shows the rocket spiraling out of control as it falls back down to Earth, leaving a crooked contrail in its wake. This was the first flight ever for this kind of vehicle — known as a Super Strypi rocket — as well as the first rocket launch attempt from the Hawaiian Islands.

The launch was part of the US Air Force's Operationally Responsive Space (ORS)-4 mission. The ORS missions are aimed at testing out smaller, alternative launch vehicles, to see if they can get government satellites into space for much lower costs and with much shorter planning times. This particular mission was meant to see if the Super Strypi could meet those criteria.

"The ORS-4 mission on an experimental Super Strypi launch vehicle failed in mid-flight after liftoff at 5:45 PM Hawaii Standard Time (7:45 PM PST/10:45 PM EST) today from the Pacific Missile Range Facility off Barking Sands, Kauai, Hawaii. Additional information will be released as it becomes available," the Air Force said in a statement.

The Super Strypi rocket is a repurposed version of a Cold War era sounding rocket made by the US Department of Energy’s Sandia National Laboratory; it was used as part of nuclear testing programs in the 1960s, according to Space News. For the ORS mission, the Department of Defense worked with Sandia and the University of Hawaii’s Space Flight Laboratory to significantly redesign the rocket to get into space. Aerojet Rocketdyne also provided the three new rocket motors used in the Super Strypi, and manufactured the core stages of the vehicle. The Super Strypi is launched via a rail system, which guides the rocket as it takes off.

Altogether the vehicle is estimated to cost $15 to $16 million per launch. That's a good deal, considering the average cost of launching an Atlas V rocket — the military's primary option for getting satellites into space — is around $225 million.

But it looks like the Super Strypi may have a long way to go before it can save the Air Force that much money. Even before this launch failure, the ORS-4 mission was fraught with delays; the launch had originally been set for October 2013, but was pushed back to November 2014 and then to January 2015, according to Space News, before finally settling on the November 3rd date. Additionally, the Air Force didn't seem to have much confidence that the rocket would succeed. Col. John Anttonen, the former director of the Air Force’s ORS Office, told Space News that the government was moving forward with the launch despite knowing about a design flaw in one of the rocket's motors.

"For us, the mission is to get the data on the flight," Anttonen told Space News in March. "We feel we can do that on this mission all the way up through the first stage. We’re pretty confident we’ll be able to demonstrate what we’re looking for." Anttonen said the main objective of ORS-4 was to see if the mission time could be compressed into 21 days. There's been no word yet on whether or not the Air Force succeeded in that area.

Hello Stormr1dr, I don't want to go off topic but I don't understand your comment.

I've written, is my instinct, apology if I went out off topic.

sToRmR1dR,

Honestly, I'd like to get to know you a bit more. Do you mean that something in your "instinct" sees me as needing a mirror on "ego"? I am open to what you are seeing or feeling. I am certainly not perfect but as Castaneda mentions it is good to strive to be "impeccable". If I need to make an adjustment that wouldn't surprise me at this point. I don't think you are necessarily "off topic". :/

Hi goyacobol,

I dont think he's "off topic" necessarily, but I do think he's "off base."

I've observed your conduct for a long time, and have interacted with you often. And being ego driven is NOT one of your problems. That's my opinion.

But I do detect another issue -- perhaps more important than any other. There appears to be a slight wavering in your faith at times. Moments you seem (and sound) unsure, almost unbelieving even. And that surprises me, with you being so well versed in the material.

Insufficient faith can be hugely counter-productive. But I could be wrong.

sitting,

Thanks for the input. I think it probably more a wavering in confidence in my own development than a lack of confidence in the material. I think this thread is a good one to keep you awake. All the events being noticed here only increase my confidence in the clues the Cs have given us. I really only want to try to be the best I can for the sake of the forum but maybe even that is just some "be perfect" program. I guess when one of us seems to be wavering it can affect all of us at a certain level. If you could point me to one of the posts where I seem to be "almost unbelieving" maybe I could better see what you mean.

From my understanding of the material we are supposed to develop faith/confidence in the truth by research rather than just "believe". For me sometimes it is the "wait and see" part that the most difficult to do. As you often say "FWIW" or "But I could be wrong".

Thanks :/

Could you clarify what you mean by faith in the material? Maybe I'm misinterpreting you, but if someone is unsure and "unbelieving", that's probably a good thing. Like Gurdjieff said, only take on board what you can verify for yourself.

If the economy begins to become more critical in how the timeline has shifted, the financial ties between Russia China may become a piece on the chessboard that the secret government will be hard pressed to counter.

Moscow & Shanghai stock exchanges develop links
(Published time: 6 Nov, 2015 13:52)

Russia’s key trading floor, the Moscow Exchange (MOEX) and the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) signed a memorandum of cooperation on Friday, according to the head of the MOEX supervisory board Aleksey Kudrin.

The agreement involves exchanging information and experience, mutual learning, along with clarifying each other’s legislation and key events.

"This memorandum consists of public and closed segments, while it’s not a closed one itself,” Kudrin, Russia’s finance minister from 2000 to 2011, told journalists. The closed part of the document is commercial information which can’t be disclosed to the public, he added.

In terms of cooperation, both sides will try to better understand some procedures that determine specific financial instruments, technologies and prospects.

"Our main task is to present the Moscow Exchange. This is happening for the first time on the Chinese market as foreign issues are extremely rare on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. We will hope to create a precedent," Kudrin said.

On Friday the Russian Finance Ministry said at least $1 billion of federal loan bonds denominated in Chinese yuan will be issued on the Moscow Exchange in 2016.

In July, the Moscow Exchange and China Financial Futures Exchange (CFFEX) signed an agreement to strengthen ties. The Moscow Exchange also inked an accord with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, following last year’s cooperation agreement with Bank of China.

In March MOEX started trading future contracts on the yuan-ruble pair. Trade in the currency pair increased 130 percent in the first quarter of 2015.

After all, it takes currency to pay for all those military maneuvers which Obama, Kerry and crew seem to think will be a part of Russia's undoing.

Saudi-led alliance prevents Russian plane from taking off from Yemen
https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/news/europe/22129-saudi-led-alliance-prevents-russian-plane-from-taking-off-from-yemen

Friday, 06 November 2015 - The Saudi-led coalition yesterday prevented a Russian plane leaving Sanaa International Airport after it arrived without going through the coalition’s inspections process in Djibouti, a pro-Houthi TV channel reported.

The Al-Masirah TV quoted an unnamed Russian diplomat as saying that there is no justification for preventing the flight from taking off.

Yemen’s Saba news agency reported Sanaa airport director, Khalid Shayef, as saying that the plane is the first to arrive in Sanaa directly from Russia, carrying 20 tonnes of humanitarian aid and diplomatic staff.

A team from the Saudi-led coalition inspect all planes bound for Yemen fearing the transfer of weapons or military experts to support rebel groups.

The coalition imposed a ban on travel by sea and air to Yemen in March in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolution 2216.

National Syrian Coalition: Russia is planning long-term occupation of Syria
https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/news/middle-east/22138-national-syrian-coalition-russia-is-planning-long-term-occupation-of-Syria

Friday, 06 November 2015 - The National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces accused Russia of planning a long-term occupation of Syria.

The claims were based on the types of weapons Moscow is sending to Syria, including anti-aircraft systems and ground war systems and equipment, the group explained.

It pointed out that this contradicts Moscow’s claims that it is entering Syria to target “terrorism” and “terrorist organisations”.

In a press release issued yesterday, the coalition stated that the weapons Russia is sending into Syria suggest an attempt to divide the country and establish areas of Russian influence. This goes against its promises in Geneva and Vienna to preserve the unity of the Syrian state and to respect its sovereignty.

The coalition called on the Russian government to immediately withdraw its forces from the Syrian territories. It also warned that its continued military intervention will force the Syrian people and the Free Syrian Army to treat it as an occupying force and it will confront it with all available means.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Air Force, Viktor Bondarev, has previously said that his country sent anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems to Syria to protect its forces there.

In his statement to Russia’s Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, Bondarev stressed that these systems can bring down civilian airplanes that may be highjacked by countries neighbouring Syria that want to target the Russian base.

“We have studied all the possible threats. We not only sent fighter jets, attack aircraft, bomber aircraft, helicopters but also missile systems.”

Israel orders aircraft carrier as part of US military aid package
https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/news/americas/22086-israel-orders-aircraft-carrier-as-part-of-us-military-aid-package

Wednesday, 04 November 2015 - Israel has provided the United States with a list of weapons that it would like to have available as part of the US aid package, Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth revealed yesterday.

According to the newspaper the list included a modern aircraft carrier and a squadron of F-15 aircrafts as well as material assistance to support Israel’s anti-ballistic missile system, Arrow 3.

According to the newspaper Israeli officials have asked for these weapons during closed-door meetings with US officials attended by Defence Minister Moshe Ya'alon and US Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter in Washington.

The list of arms exceeded the maximum assistance provided by the United States each year, amounting to nearly $3 billion, therefore it has been referred to US President Barack Obama before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the White House scheduled for next week, the paper reported.

U.S. officials: Israel wants up to $5 billion in annual military aid
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4721170,00.html

Wednesday November 4, 2015 - Israel has made an initial request for its annual U.S. defense aid to increase to as much as $5 billion when its current aid package, worth an average $3 billion a year, expires in 2017, US congressional sources said on Wednesday.

Israel wants $5 billion per year in military aid for 10 years, for a total of $50 billion, the congressional aides said. It has been signaling that it wants more money to counter threats it says will arise as a result of the international agreement on Iran's nuclear program, which Israel's government has staunchly opposed.

Congressional and other US officials cautioned that negotiations on the new aid deal were still in the early stages and the proposal is not yet at the stage where it has been formally brought to Congress, which must approve the funds.

"First they have to negotiate with the White House," one senior congressional aide said of Israel.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry’s plane will deliver them from Sana’a to Moscow.

"A Russian Emergencies Ministry’s plane will fly 50 Russian and CIS [Commonwealth of Independent States] citizens from Yemen’s capital Sana’a to Moscow," Tomashov said.

A TASS correspondent reported that Russian Emergencies Ministry’s Il-76 plane has left Sana’a at 1:20pm Moscow time. The plane will stop at the Egyptian city of Aswan for refueling and then head for Moscow.

The plane was initially scheduled to leave at around 3pm Moscow time on Thursday, but was delayed for technical reasons connected with malfunctions in dispatch communication channels, Russia’s Charge d’Affaires in Yemen Andrey Chernovol said.

The plane is expected to arrive to Moscow’s Domodedovo airport. It earlier delivered 20 tons of humanitarian aid to Yemen, as well as 20-and 30-seat tents that local authorities use for refugee camps

A prominent Russian millionaire with high-level ties to the Kremlin has been found dead inside a Washington hotel, a Russian official and a senior U.S. official told ABC News.

Mikhail Lesin, the former head of media affairs for the Russian government who's been accused of curtailing the country’s press freedoms, had been staying at Hotel Dupont when he was found Thursday, according to officials.

It's unclear why the long-time adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin was in Washington, but the Metropolitan Police Department is now investigating his death. On Thursday, U.S. authorities notified the Russian embassy in Washington that one of its citizens had died, and Russian officials are now working with American authorities to determine the circumstances of the death, the embassy told ABC News in a statement.

Citing an ongoing investigation, an MPD spokesman would only confirm the department is conducting a “death investigation."

Lesin is credited with creating Russia Today, the English-language news network backed by the Russian government. Now known as RT, the network “provides an alternative perspective on major global events, and acquaints an international audience with the Russian viewpoint,” according to its website.

Hi goyacobol,

I think confidence in material AND confidence in one's own development are tightly bound. They go together. And it's precisely these kinds of thoughts I was referring to. Wavering in one automatically leads to wavering in the other.

The "be perfect" program may indeed be an issue. Your presentations are meticulously balanced. With adequate consideration for all sides. Always fair and unbiased. What I was looking for however, is that inner fire. The fire that speaks of conviction and belief. Now this may simply be a matter of style over substance. But I think not. I see (and feel) for example, the flame of passion in everything Laura puts forth. Her words & thoughts straight from the heart, without filtering. And this quality, may be quite essential in a hyper-kinetic world. Where thought translation (into objects & events) is immediate.

Lastly, I think (I hope) we've all gone beyond blind faith by now. To a clear & unimpeded faith. If belief centers are indeed the power source for reality change, then that is where the key lies.

I could be wrong.

FWIW.

Media tycoon & former Russian press minister Lesin dies from heart attack at 57

Mikhail Lesin, a prominent Russian political figure and mass media expert credited with inspiring the creation of Russia Today (now RT), has died in Washington, DC after a heart attack.

Lesin, a former press minister and ex-head of Gazprom-Media, Russia’s largest media holding, died at the age of 57 on Wednesday, according to family members. “Mikhail Lesin died from a heart stroke,” a family member told RIA Novosti.

Meanwhile, TASS has reported that Lesin was found dead in his hotel room in Washington, DC, citing the Russian Embassy in the US. Police found no signs of foul play, but a formal investigation has been launched. It has been reported that Lesin had been suffering from a prolonged unidentified illness.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his sincerest condolences to Lesin’s family early on Saturday.

“The president has a high appreciation for Mikhail Lesin’s massive contribution to the creation of modern Russian mass media,” the Kremlin’s press service said.

Lesin was born in Moscow on July 11, 1958. A graduate of Moscow State University with a degree in Civil Engineering, he served as Minister of Press and Mass Media from 1999 to 2004. He was also a presidential media adviser from 2004 to 2009.

Lesin became chief executive officer at Garprom-Media in 2013 and remained in the position until early 2015.

Lesin believed in making Russian views heard at the international level. “It’s been a long time since I was scared by the word propaganda,” Lesin said back in 2007. “We need to promote Russia internationally. Otherwise, we’d just look like roaring bears on the prowl.”

My first thought was that it was an induced heart attack, meant as a message to Putin: This is what we can do. But maybe the cigar is just a cigar and the details are just coincidences. I wouldn't bet my last dollar on that though.

In connection with that the USA announced three days ago that they want to increase the expenses for their anti Russian propaganda up to 26% to 86 million dollars per year and could be a side kick as well against RT.
