Sense8

I thought it was pertinent to comment about the last episode, I do like the story, but as I've mentioned before the sexual content of it is very disgusting.. And this episode was not the exception, it went waaay overboard, fastforwarded those parts. But I thought it was relevant to mention to anyone else who watches the show or will watch it...

Just my 2 cents.

Agreed. I started watching because I thought the story line was interesting but I'm just about to give up on it. Every episode has to have some kind of soft porn in it and I just don't see the relevance to what's going on. I think the Wachoski bros/sisters have just lost it. Imo they haven't put anything good out in years now.

From what little I've seen of it (only on YouTube clips) it seems and interesting and timely concept. 8 people connected as if they are one soul. Different genders, different skills, interests and backgrounds and even different sexual preferences. It's not like they have a choice to be connected, they just are. This has the tendency make for a lot of 'action' as well as humor when people are just popping in and out of each other's realities.

The same impressions. These sexual scenes is too overwhelming, which I try to skip. They are trying to show too many things at the same time - gay sex with straight sex of 4 pairs with interspersing the couples and this is in between their intense emotional drama of social rejection. It looked as if they are using sex as a tension release mechanism. They used this interspersing of nature/social scenes from different countries in the opening title song rather well and looked like diversity as a rainbow. Concept wise this episode is nothing new. It felt this episode is a bridge to what is going to be in season 2. In this episode, the 8 people are becoming more comfortable each other, trusting their experiences and there are lot of hints that close associates of the 8 may not have big role in coming episodes. This is 2 hours episode, I found to be little too much for a single sitting.

Yep same impression. I simply can't watch it anymore, especially after the "new discoveries" about gender bender stuff and the destruction of language and decency. Right from the beginning I felt discusted by the content and how it is presented, and as the minutes passed by it got worse by the minute, until the point I decided I have to stop that nonsense. I think it must have been minute 20 or so, where I simply couldn't take more of that nonsense and switched it off. You really need to be 100 % on guard in a "movie" like this one, and even then, it is almost impossible to not get influenced negatively by it in some way.

Conclusion: I'll never watch it again, and thankfully so.

I haven't got into this show, haven't had the time or motivation.

If you look at the Westworld thread, it's not the violence or sex that worries me.
The deeper meaning which I don't see here is why I am not motivated to watch it.
Might I be missing something?

I wonder if sometimes what happened to Lana is a way to divert a good thing (Matrix, etc).
I mean we had Bradley Manning, some British MP who spoke out against the Iraq BS, and others who were onto something and got "flipped". Don't even need the "beam weapons" when you can easily do it chemically through their doctors "prescriptions" or their recreational drugs supply, or even a guy at a bar slipping something into a drink- knowing how deep the CIA kind of creeps can go with their technology.

I have the same impressions that you guys. As the last episode left me with a yucky feeling I dug around a little bit about the bothers. There's not much information available because they try to keep their private life away from the public. At the beginning i kind of justified this by thinking: 'well, they like their privacy', but now i think that there's another another reason for that, something more surprising to say the least. After reading parts of the available accounts out there, it's definitely true that the "creation" reflects unconsciously or consciously, subtly or openly, the inner world of the "creator".

Rolling Stone magazine published an article making an account of some aspects of Larry's personal life that made echo of some rumors, acquaintances' accounts, and some verifiable information from other sources. The article does not exists online anymore; wonder why.

The tone of this article is agressive in some parts, and some personal points of view of the writer are just plain subjective and brainless (he calls V a terrorist!). But well, it puts together some of the information scattered out there. Here's a copy of the article if you are interested:

Most of this events, including Larry's sex change unfolded after the 1st Matrix movie - interesting, right? - and the weird or out of place stuff in some of their later movies and series make more sense.

I'm not going to share the details here because some made my stomach turn and skipped most-. But you'll get an idea  In short. Larry Wachowski used to frequent BDSM (bondage, discipline, sadism and masochism) places in LA where he dressed like a woman. In there met Ilsa Strix (aka Karin Winslow) in 2001, a famed dominatrix from San Francisco, that was married at the time to another transgender woman and porn actress named Buck Angel. Larry then got divorced from his wife Thea Bloom some time after meeting Karin Winslow, and married her in 2009. Larry took the decision to change sex in 2002 and considered herself a "transgender lesbian". It's said that Karin Winslow influenced some parts of the Matrix sequels, and that's why we find the Merovingian gang dressed in leader and latex, and possibly the massive love party in the caves of Zion...

Those extremes changes in lives of people that at the beginning seems to do good things.. are so mind programming intervention :(. I can feel for real the degradation from the matrix 2. The first one is the only that I really like.

In my case, I am tired of so much violence, war and drugs series (the chapo, girls of the mafia) . Is it not enough with the reality we live in?

Interesting findings Luis, after 2001/2002 the Wachowskis made some good movies, of course V for Vendetta being one of them. And in the following movies after The Matrix (Speed Racer, V for Vendetta, Cloud Atlas and Jupiter Ascending) this overboard sex was not there until Sense8. So that leaves me wondering if it was them or Netflix that wanted the orgy scenes.

As for the Christmas special, I also fast forwarded the sex scenes, but apart from this it was bit of a disappointment. Seems like they didn't really want to reveal much of the plot for next season and this was just something to throw out after delaying the series for over a year.

The show has a lot of heart, and all the main characters are really likable.

I agree with this even after watching the Christmas special.

As for the sex scenes, again I didn't find them as shocking or disgusting as other forumites. The Korean girl says something to the effect - sex is our source - we should not fear it - we should honor it, and they obviously run with this. Its also obvious Vachovski is pushing the gender issues through this show.

I personally would never imagine that people who have psychic connection would need to connect on a sexual level, we can only theorize about this i.e if you are psychically connected with someone - do you feel their orgasms?
But I am more inclined to take this show as light entertainment ( based on the topic that is interesting) rather then to speculate and analyse further. Lately I can hardly watch anything entertainment industry has to offer and this has kept my attention till the end so that warrants at least couple of stars,

The season 2 is out and it is even better then the first one.

Its nice that they finally gave some sensible background to the sensate phenomenon and I like how characters and their individual stories are getting more depth. I like the new characters as well.

Warning mild spoilers ahead!!!

Its nice to see the cluster working as one, being there for each other and standing up to their tyrants. My favorite scene is face on confrontation between two clusters. That was pretty epic.

The show is now moving much faster and think I will watch it one more time as most of the time I find it difficult to understand what is being said because of the funny accents. Again visuals and music didn't leave anything to be desired. Considering the scope of this project and filming in different locations I think they did an amazing job.

I also love the humor. My favorite: "I think I just caught equivalent of psychic STD" :)

I quite enjoyed the second season too. As said before the sex scenes are over the top and, frankly, not needed, but if you can get passed that, the show itself is interesting, well shot and for the most part well acted and directed IMO.

When I was watching it, the theme of the crystal connection came into my mind, the characters in the show, have their clusters and connect and support each other, like a network, what if we could do the same? just a random thought :)

Just now finished episode 10 of season 2, so one episode left. It is a shame they're pushing the sex. It's definitely unnecessary when the more important themes have to do with empathy and working together with a close nit group (cluster/ tribe). But there so much to the series (meaning, depth, creativity) and it does a good job of pointing out the absurdity and hopelessness of ever changing anything as long as people are divided by... all the things that divide us. Anyway, I think it's a case of throwing the baby out with the bath water if one skips it because of the sex scenes. Unless of course one has issues in that area. All in all I think it stimulates the emotional center like no other series, at least it does for me. I'm just a Wachowski's brothers fan to begin with so I may be giving too much benefit of the doubt here.

I think in this season the actually toned it down pretty much. While in the first season it was at times bordering on pornographic in this season it was more "erotic" ( as in aesthetics of sexual desire, sensuality and romantic love.) and I am perfectly fine with that.
