I've done karaoke several times and it is FUN, FUN, FUN....as long as you don't take yourself too seriously and the audience does likewise. Get up there and have a good time. In my city there is a place that has private karoake rooms so even the 'fraidy cats can have a good time singing with only their friends as witnesses.

Then when the opportunity came up in bars, work happy hours, etc I figured what the hell, and realized I at least wasn't as bad as people being deliberately awful, doing obvious cliché songs. I don't really want to get into my set list but I find it helps to know the song well, don't just rely on the prompter words. If you can hit most of the right notes and lyrics in most of the right places, people will be impressed or at least amused in a good way. And it helps to pick a fun song you can sort of "lean" into, depending on the level of cheese you're going for.
Even if you know your vocals are awful, there should be something close to a spoken word song you can get away with and if you pull off the showmanship, people will enjoy it.
p.s. know your range. sometimes when you're humming to yourself you think you've got it but when you're up on the mic you might need to sing an octave higher to get the volume, and it doesn't work out so well.
In case you didn't know, you can buy a lot of different background tracks for singing on iTunes. They cost like 1euro/piece.

I thought the following would fit in this thread:
A friend's sister is under psychotherapy due to having depression and extreme fear of the 12/21 date. I think she even was adviced to do psychiatric treatment (including medication) for this.
Very sad. I also know of a couple of other people who are having serious psychological issues out of fear of this date. Those are examples of what could be the real goal behind promoting those dates, 4D STS feasting on the fear and tension of those who blindly believe in that.
Anyway, this is my prediction, not for the 21st, but for the 22nd: a lot of new age folks will say that the world didn't end thanks to their visualisations :P
Dogs are so wonderful. No wonder Mother Earth gave us these beings as our best friends.

i think 2012 is the year that our mother earth is cleansing herself so that the peace is restored thereafter. Before that she must go through all this upheaval that is taking place like earthquakes, sinkholes, large extinction of birds, animals etc. Magnetic field of our earth has weakened over the past several years due to slowing of the earth's rotation. As it is moving towards the galactic centre, our earth is bombarded with heavy meteor showers like fireballs.
