Websites to order vitamins

For what it's worth, I recently did an online price comparison for D-ribose in bulk, and at the moment the following are the cheapest I could find, in order of most reasonable:

#1: herbstoreusa.com
2270g (80 oz) $140.95 [$1.76 per oz.]
1000g (35.27 oz) $70.95 [$2.01 per oz.]
500g (17.64 oz.) $40.95 [$2.32 per oz.]

#2: ecrater.com
500g (17.64 oz.) $40.99 [$2.32 per oz.]

#3: purebulk.com
1500g (17.64 oz.) $40.95 [$2.32 per oz.]
500g (17.64 oz.) $51.50 [$2.97 per oz.]

Per ounce (oz.), herbstoreusa.com's largest bulk order is by far the most reasonable. I hope this helps some of you save some money. :wizard:
Note that these figures don't take shipping into account, however.

Hi HowToBe,

I have moved your post in that thread since it fits better.

Is gelatine a problem?

Now that you're asking I wonder whether I'm mixing up things here. Look at this site: _http://www.msgmyth.com/hidename.htm (Hidden Names for MSG). Gelatin is mentioned as a hidden source of MSG, so I'd think that every mention of gelatin ingredient should be a red flag. However, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Alright, that's good. I might contribute some more bulk price comparisons later, since I found researching this one to be quite fun for some reason!

NOTE TO AUSSIES:

I was about to ask for recommendations for Australians buying online, thinking of increased shipping costs (maybe) 'cos we're so damn far away from the rest of the world, and transport time, as well as availability due to Australia's laws.

Anyway, after a quick bit of snooping around Thorne Research's site, I found this bit of good news:

"TGA Certification

Since January 2000, Thorne Research has had the unique distinction of being inspected and approved by Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), the pharmaceutical regulatory agency of Australia. Considered the toughest regulatory agency in the world, the TGA inspection and certification is conducted at a pharmaceutical level standard. Only a handful of U.S. companies are able to achieve the status of holding a TGA certification. Thorne is unique in that it is the only U.S.-based dietary supplement manufacturer serving the professional practitioner market which has TGA approval for its U.S. manufacturing plant to manufacture and release for sale finished product for distribution in Australia. Click here to view certificate.

The auditors from this official agency of the Australian government, whose certification is recognized and accepted by other governments worldwide, not only review our GMPs every two years, but also conduct an on-site inspection of every aspect of Thorne's manufacturing and quality control. The TGA certification achieved by Thorne Research – for "medicinal products" – is the same certification that is designated for Australian pharmaceutical manufacturers, thus permitting Thorne, were it our business, to market pharmaceutical products in Australia and other countries that accept the TGA certification..

In September 2009, Thorne again was successfully audited by the TGA at its 58,000 sq. ft. facility in Dover, Idaho. Auditors have always commented on the high standards that Thorne displays, not only in manufacturing, but also in quality control, laboratory procedures, pharmaceutical good manufacturing practices, and standard operating procedures.

The Thorne commitment to quality is demonstrated by the diligence necessary to maintain the level of pharmaceutical standards required by the TGA. Quality is the Thorne mission, more than just a mission statement."

I dunno how true this statement is- "Considered the toughest regulatory agency in the world" (referring to the TGA), but this statement, "The TGA certification achieved by Thorne Research – for "medicinal products" – is the same certification that is designated for Australian pharmaceutical manufacturers, thus permitting Thorne, were it our business, to market pharmaceutical products in Australia and other countries that accept the TGA certification" certainly seems to be a pretty good endorsement.

Any disagreements/comments?

Hello everybody,
I was trying to find good quality and not too expensive multivitamin, as I feel I quite need it right now, and I cannot really afford to buy the few chosen ones separately. Anyway, Scarlet recommended Puritan's Pride, so I checked it out. The deal looks quite good, but I'm still not too sure about ingredients... That's the link to the product ---> http://www.puritanspride.co.uk/puritans-pride-one-time-release-sku-003660.html
If someone could have a look, it would be much appreciated. It does contain Magnesium Stearate, but it comes from vegetable sources... Well, I think it is really hard to avoid all the additives, they need to bind the capsules somehow after all, just need to implement some harm reduction strategy here, I guess. Thanks to everyone for all the links.

For Australian Members!!!

My parents have ordered through this site for almost 20 years now. They are not really into 'clean' supplements at this time, and my memory is telling me that last time I checked, most of them had fillers and whatnot. I did eat these brand vitamins exclusively during my late teens, and while I know now that they are not ideal, they still appeared to provide many positive benefits.

You may want to check out pureformulas.com, it is one of my favorite cheap and clean sites that I mentioned over in the DMSA thread. You can just type the name of the supplement, sort by price, and there's all sorts of cleaner options.

As for the supplement you linked to (the multivitamin), yeah there are some undesirables in there. Very similar to the multi I used to take from them long ago. It is important to remember that many vitamins come in many different forms, so maybe make a list of which supplements you are looking for and in which form, then it is easier to search and compare. Fwiw. :)

There is also a thread on magnesium stearate, and the most recent data seems to indicate that it is maybe not so harmful after all.

Thank you very much Jason! Magnesium Stearate not so dangerous, oh well... ;] It's good news anyway. Hard to decide which ones I need most, and then hard to choose ;D But I will sort it out somehow :)

Fairly stuck, can not find a company that will ship 5-htp to Australia as it is band in most states, anyone know of anything that could help me out? there is this place in Queensland but they dont sell to my state and its a good 26 hour drive if I were to collect.....

If anyone knows a good quality brand/ website that I could buy from without being ripped off that would be gold. All of the websites provided on this thread unfortunately do not ship to AUS.

Best Regards,

Brent.

Chaps, from what I understand you can still get 5htp in Australia, but only after being recommended it by a naturopath who then "prescribes" it for you. The health food shop that gave me this information said that they can still order it, but they don't keep it in stock in the shop.

hmmm..... I dont exactly wanna spend $80 on a consultation on a naturapath I'd rather source it on the net & save the $$$

For EU members:

I found this site http://www.puresto.eu/.

Puresto hypoallergenic supplements Europe

Pure supplements for individuals with food allergies, special dietary requirements and environmental sensitivities
We offer a complete range of hypoallergenic nutritional supplements, with improved absorption and tolerance. Puresto carefully selects products that have the highest quality ingredients and avoid products containing potentially harmful preservatives, additives, flowing agents, and fillers.

Some of the products are kinda expensive, and some you cant buy without having a practitioner recommended the supplements to you, but i really like the name of the site though :)

Anyone got experience with this site?

Hey mate... thanx for the links, I'll check 'em out. I'm after 5-HTP as well... Then I found a health store in Dandenong (VIC) that sold me a bottle over the counter, no questions asked! It's "Dr. Vera's Formulations", and it says it's in Warwick, QLD- is that the same place you're referring to? Ha, just saw it says on the bottle "For Practitioner Dispensing Only"... maybe this shop is breaking some law statute or something. Just in case it is, lemme know if the info's any use to you and I'll PM you the address and stuff, instead of posting it publicly. Ok? Oh, and it cost me $54.95 for 30... which I know is probably quite pricey, but hey- I've got a bottle now.
