What's the weather where you are?

The weather here (rural NSW, Australia) has been very mild and warm. We are predicted to have a warmer than normal winter. There has only been one decent frost and just one cold snap, earlier than usual. Lots of trees and plants are in flower, they seem to think it is Spring here and not Autumn.

Very little rainfall here where it is needed unfortunately. Hope everyone stays safe in the flood impacted areas of the world :)

It is nearly June here in the Purcell, Selkirk and Rockies, and driving around the last few days, I've never seen such late snow melt for at least the last two decades + year living here. The snow, even on south and west aspects, which is not normal, is very slow to melt and is present in many cases to mid-slope or elevated valley bottoms. Rain and cold here today with snow falls at altitude.

Hello to a fellow Aussie! I'm rural NSW too (up the coast), and I'm hearing ya- the weather has been ridiculously warm (Tuesday was 27 degrees C). That cold snap a few weeks back lasted a few days only, with a return to blue skies and warm sunny days. It's raining lightly this evening, but for the most part, it's been very dry.

About a half an hour ago I heard boom, it was not strong and long just about one second but windows shook also. I asked mother and sister did they hear it and they said yes but they do not know what it was. It was not jet piercing sound barrier because I heard it once above my house, it is much more louder and you can hear and see the aircraft manouvering in the sky, and they rarly do exercises where I live, and do it when the weather is sunny. And the weather is cloudy now and was rainy.

Thunder? :)

Thunder? :)

I did not express myself clearly, rain was falling in the morning but this was an hour and half afternoon. There was no rain but clouds were more grey white, not blackend or dark grey just as they are before some unstable weather or storm. To be honest when there is a thunder before then there is a flash, and if it shook windows then it should have been somewhere close but then there would be flash visible and probably more thunders and the weather was as said above incompatible with stormy weather. And everytime there was some thunder closer to house the windows never shook and it was much louder and longer sound then this short boom. And even when hearing that sound barrier pierced by airplane it was much louder, that is closer and windows did not shake then. But that was later announced on media about sound barrier being broken, but I ll try to find if there is anything in some media about it. Not so strong sound of it it and shaking of windows implies it was something stronger. Maybe if plane was flying high above clouds but frankly I do not think those old few Mig-21 s are anymore capable for that, some even crashed so they rarly use them and probably for lower altitude flights.

Things are not looking so good in southern Québec from a certain perspective.

Not only did we have an exceptionally cold weather, spring was also quite cold.

Now as far as it goes, we've had some quite nice and warm days but many cool and even cold ones lately.

Also, many people have very recently started witnessing and reporting seeing a halo around the sun which means, as far as I know, that the atmosphere is loaded with ice crystals.

Seems like another sign that an Ice Age is imminent.

We'll see how it goes.

Peace.

It's been raining off and on here. Looking at the Weather Underground history, I'm getting the impression that this month isn't all that unusual. I had the impression we were getting a lot of rain, but according to my glance at the records we're getting closer to average or less for the last ten years, so it's probably bias since I've only started paying attention this year.

Everyday people at work occasionally make comments about how the weather is strange, or how they're tired of rain, although they often amend that to say "we need it though" due to the drought.

Sounds like it could have been something like a thunderbolt or other kind of overhead boom. If it wasn't a airplane... :/

Serious floods in Siberia, Russia: nearly 4,000 residential houses are partially flooded, with over 7,600 people evacuated. The floods have destroyed 12 bridges - seven for vehicles and five for pedestrians, thus transport communication with eleven villages has been disrupted.

Russia’s Hydrometeorological Centre said on Friday heavy rains were expected to dampen Siberia through the end of the week, with lower temperatures and more coming showers, thunderstorms and hail, which would cause floods in the region. Freezing temperatures of down to five degrees Celsius and high winds would only worsen the situation in some of the regions.

My observations will be a contradiction to what most people are experiencing. I'm a flight attendant so I travel every week. Home is Salt Lake City , UT. Mostly the west coast and Midwest trips lately. The winds are often strong and lots of bumps below 18,000 ft. Just spent a week in Las Vegas - chillier than usual but a comfortable 70-80 degrees. Reno/ Tahoe, California this week was gorgeous. The air and water and trees are sooooo refreshing. Utah is is getting hot and cool days. Often very windy the past few years. I missed the storms in the Oklahoma. The weather was fabulous on my overnights. I feel very fortunate. It definitely seems like temperatures or storms have been extreme in most areas thought.

The Danish Meteorological Institute, located in Southern Scandinavia, reports that the average temperature for the Spring months of March, April and May is the third highest on record. With 8.6 degrees Celsius, 2014 is ahead of the year 1921 when it was 8.5, but below the average of 2007 when it was 9.0 and 1990 when it was 8.7 degrees Celsius. By comparison the average for the same period last year was only 5.6. This year things seem to be "heating up". It looks pretty bad. One commentator suggests weather weapon could have been used, but I wonder if that is possible; as it is there is enough going on all over the planet.

Hundreds of people have been evacuated and tens of thousands left without power after heavy floods struck southern Siberia. A state of emergency has been introduced in three regions.

Those areas are the Altai region, Khakassia Republic, and Altai Republic, said Russian Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov, who added that a “high alert” has been issued for two other regions - Tuva Republic and Buryatia Republic.

Meanwhile, Puchkov also noted that other regions are at risk from the flooding - such as Sakha (Yakutia) Republic and the Amur region – due to the fact that rivers in southern Siberia have responded quickly to the heavy rains.

RECORD BREAKING COLD YESTERDAY

Posted by Zack Newmark on 9:56 CEST, Friday, 30, May, 2014

Thursday was the coldest May 29th on record, with temperatures at the country’s meteorological headquarters in De Bilt, Utrecht never surpassing 12.0 degrees Celsius. The mercury did not rise higher than 12.3 degrees in 1983, the previous record for lowest high temperature, according to the Telegraaf newspaper.

Netherlanders and tourists were wise to spend Ascension Day in the far south of the country, where the sun managed to pierce through cloud cover, pushing temperatures up to 19 degrees.

Residents of Veluwe, Gelderland dealt with a frigid peak of 11.5 degrees, while other parts of the country saw daytime temperatures range between 10 and 11 degrees, reports WeerOnline.nl.

Twitter user @Carmenrosjee said today, “It looks like winter outside … let’s go to work.”

The first recorded temperatures for May 29 were noted in 1901. It was not the coldest Ascension Day on record, which took place on May 12, 2010, with a high temperature of 9.2 degrees.
