What's the weather where you are?

Here in the Canberra, Australia area, we are looking at a week of blizzard style weather currently moving in from Antarctica. High winds and rain, low temperatures, and maybe some snow. ( Note: we have only had snow here twice in the last twenty odd years!)
Time to put away my shorts and thongs and get out the thermals!

And here in Belarus we have no summer at all. Typical autumn weather. For example, at the moment +9C, and that's in the end of June! Also there are a lot of lightning storms (it's my third summer here, and I never experienced that much storms) and rain, and there was even a mini tornado in Minsk. The jumps in temperatures and barometric pressure are also very tasking on the system. It's not normal, that's for sure.

Most of May and June we had lots of wind and lightning storms and rain and hail in Armenia. And it was colder than other years, particularly overnight lows. Now the last several days it got quite hot (with the occasional rain and strong winds). But there's certainly been lots of wild weather this year.

We had a pretty awesome lightning and thunderstorm here this morning. It started right before 6am and lasted for about 30 minutes. The thunder was loud cracking and rolling and the lightning was REALLY bright. It also rained for most of the night, which was good for the plants!

Indeed, Keit. I spent this weekend at our graduates meeting, my ex-classmates now live in different parts of the world (Western Europe, North America, Asia, Moscow, etc.), and everyone said that they've been experiencing very weird weather in the last two years. And it wasn't me who started this discussion, so I was listening to them and I was very surprised that so many people have noticed it already. They asked me about our recent Siberian flood, but we are lucky here to have a strong dam on the Ob river, so that flood didn't affect our city much. We also had such very cold period as you do now in early June, and it was unusual even for Siberia, many our berries were also ruined, but now it's very hot and dry here (about +30C every day).

Very interesting. Don't know if you are on VK (vKontakte - Russian social network), but if you do, recently I joined two meteorological groups that gather videos, photos and data about extreme weather in post Soviet Union countries and around the world.

There is a lot of info there, and they update it all the time.

We had a freak hail storm here on the Mid North Coast NSW, a few days back. The day started sunny and by 2pm, black clouds came over, some thunder, then heavy rain, winds, with hail only in certain parts of the suburb. The ice came down so thick, it brought the roof down in parts at the local shopping centre, which just re-opened for business today. :scared:

Within minutes it looked like this:

And to think the day started out like this:

I was just wondering how the chateau is under the tornado and heavy rain in Toulouse? I hope everything is ok.

Looking at weather trends, I came across this map that states: 2899 Record cold temps vs 667 record warm temps from July 24 to August 19, 2013 in the U.S. From what we have experienced so far, we may be in for a repeat of the same.

If the weather forecast is anything to go by, eastern Australia is expecting a "megablizzard".

Belgrade, Serbia, we had the usual weather for this time of the year here last few days. BUT this afternoon and the evening we had storm with some rain and really unbelievable lightnings and thunders. I cant remember if I saw and heard something like that so far.

It has been raining a lot here with lots of floods around the city making traffic even more chaotic, needless to say it's pretty unusual. Also, there has been strong thunderstorms for a couple of weeks, and in general, the electric activity has increased in the last couple of days and the electronic devices are paying the price - Navigator's PC got fried, for example :( -, so we bought a couple of No-breaks and they have been doing their job pretty well so far.

We started today with mild thunderstorms, then went to stronger thunderstorms, loss of power, no internet, and tornadoes. Got to spend part of the day huddled in the laundry room (we don't have a basement), with the cat. ;D

The only odd thing is the heavy rainfall. It was so strong for a while, I couldn't see out the windows at all. The forecast calls for more of the same for the next week. I'm beginning to think we need a boat.

As July quickly approaches, noticed today driving through the Canadian continental divide, that snow is still a dominating feature at elevations this year, radiating solar energy away, not absorbing heat. There was a wildfire in this spot during the 1960's, which has been reforested naturally. Surprisingly, a good section of this reforestation, perhaps 500 ha. has turned brown (outer edges i.e. new growth). I was thinking at first it was needle rust or a blight of another kind, until I realized that as soon as the landscape dropped slightly in elevation it suddenly stopped - turning back to light green new growth. It seems that all the new growth that has become suddenly so brown, must have underwent a very recent heavy heavy frost or freezing rain due to a temperature inversion layer (typical of inversions). For the last 25 years, I've never seen this there before.

It may be semi-spring like down in the valleys, but at elevations there has not been any great warming.

As an interrelated aside: noticed this interesting article on SoTT for those that might have missed it, discussing Dr. Christian Schlüchter's findings: Receding Swiss glaciers reveal 4000 year old forests - Warmists try to suppress findings

Schlüchter criticizes his critics for focusing on a time period which is "indeed too short." His studies and analyses of a Rhone glacier area reveal that "the rock surface had [previously] been ice-free 5,800 of the last 10,000 years." ...Schlüchter warns that the reputation of science is becoming more and more damaged as politics and money gain influence. He concludes, "For me it also gets down to the credibility of science . . . Today many natural scientists are helping hands of politicians, and are no longer scientists who occupy themselves with new knowledge and data. And that worries me."

So driving past a number of ice field remnants today, of course attributed to the last ice age in the history books, it's possible that they may be as young as 2,000 BC. People who can only see them as anthropomorphically melting, indeed would not be particular fans of Schlüchter.

Last night had another crazy electrical storm and downpour for about 45 minutes and just now another downpour for about 30 minutes here in the mountains of Armenia, 25 minutes by car from the capital.

I was in the cinema at that time so couldn't hear anything, but other people do say that thunders were pretty wild.

We had here in Germany a bit of summer for a week at the beginning of June where it was very hot and some record breaks regarding the heat, but after some severe thunderstorms it is just warm. And over the last weekend it cooled down in some other parts of Germany and now we have partly April weather in June. Strange indeed imo.
