Tempus Fugit

Dr. Seuss:
A kid that was small climbed a tree that was tall.
For from there in that tree he could almost see all.
Not many could see him, he hid so far up,
And already had passed, a man, pig, and pup.
Now a chicken he glimpsed way out by the road,
Pecking and clucking out there while it strode.
'What will it do next?' Thought the boy to himself
'Will it stay, will it go, or just sit on its shelf'?
The chicken thought same, as it looked cross the lane.
Which were surprising deep thoughts for such a small brain.
Then it blinked and it clucked, and made up its mind,
And turned to the road, leaving old ways behind.
The road it would cross, and cross it it did!
And the kid who did see what he saw as he hid,
Said 'I know why the chicken has crossed it just mid!'
He laughed to himself as he clung to the wood.
For it seemed so simple, so right, and so good.
What his eyes spied from beneath his hat's bill,
Was a chicken that was able to use its free will.

What a great thread, thanks for the many laughs, everyone!
