Check out the crazy jet stream pattern. They predicted it would go retro to pull this hurricane westerly... looks like they hit that one on the head.

Indeed the timing of this huge storm is very interesting.
first of this hurricane Sandy happens on almost the same time scale and region as the other big hurricane Irene last year. secondly it happens again at Halloween. the "election" of the president is right arround the corner and the full moon is at this time too. and the "heart" of america New York is again the "target" or so it seems.
and on top of that there is this outrageous media hype of the "end of the world storm" thing and mass evacuations.

I wondering if the universe is telling us something?

U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Martin Dempsey was in Israel on Monday to discuss a joint missile defense drill that began a week ago.

An honor guard was to receive the US general at Israel's defense headquarters in central Tel Aviv shortly after noon, an Israeli military statement said.

Israeli Chief of Staff Benny Gantz was scheduled to host the welcoming ceremony.

Dempsey met Defense Minister Ehud Barak in Tel Aviv late Sunday.

A statement from Barak's office said the two discussed the largest-ever joint Israeli-U.S. drill, code-named Austere Challenge 12, scheduled to last about three weeks and which simulates missiles raining down on Israel from Iran, Syria, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.

The two also debated security issues in the region.

"Security relations between the United States and Israel are deeper and stronger than they have been in many years," Barak said, according to the Hebrew statement.

Some 3,500 US troops are participating in the drill testing anti-missile batteries, with 1,000 troops inside Israel, and the rest taking part from Europe and the Mediterranean Sea.

A U.S. Aegis ballistic missile defense ship is joining from the northern Israeli port of Haifa.

The drill is estimated to cost the US $30 million, and Israel some $8 million.

Something to reflect on imo.

Weather-wise, the more it goes, the more it seems like this thing is going to hit America like a freight train. A few hours ago, a system installed itself here and we have good gusts of wind coming from south, or so it seems. It correlates with Skyfarmr's jet stream image if you look at the top-right system (I live in Montréal).

Not a fun thing but very interesting nontheless.

CBS News hurricane consultant David Bernard reports that wind gusts of 38 mph and 41 mph have already been reported in New York City and Boston, respectively.

Sandy is likely going to strengthen even more as it approaches the East Coast, Bernard reports, with hurricane-force winds reaching land by Monday afternoon. The storm's pressure is dropping, which means it's growing in strength.

Flooding will be a huge threat, with many areas potentially seeing rainfall amounts between 5 and 8 inches over a 48-hour period.

The full moon will make storm surges worse, as high tides along the Eastern Seaboard will rise about 20 percent higher than normal.

Correspondent Chip Reid reports from Ocean City, Md., that sea levels could rise 8 feet above normal - enough to flood much of the city.

From Washington to Boston, big cities and small towns were buttoned up against the onslaught of Sandy, with forecasters warning that the New York area could get the worst of it -- an 11-foot wall of water.

"There's a lot of people that are going to be under the impacts of this," Federal Emergency Management Administrator Craig Fugate said on "CBS This Morning" Monday.

"You know, we've got blizzard warnings as far west as West Virginia, Appalachian Mountains, but I think the biggest concern right now are the people in the evacuation areas. They're going to face the most immediate threats with the storm surge."

...the combination of Sandy with the storm from the west and the cold air from the Arctic could bring close to a foot of rain in places, a potentially lethal storm surge of 4 to 11 feet across much of the region, and punishing winds that could cause widespread power outages that last for days. The storm could also dump up to 2 feet of snow in Kentucky, North Carolina and West Virginia.

A foot of rain translated into snow is a whole lot more than 2 feet...

Well it's hitting the 'Empire State' (New York) and today, the only report of a ship sunk by Sandy was a replica of the Bounty. Two crew members are missing. The original and famous Bounty was an armed merchant vessel of the British Empire that was on a mission to try and transplant breadfruit from Tahiti to the West Indies as a cheap source of food for slaves. Interestingly, the surname of one of the missing crew members is 'Christian'.
