Laura is not visible for me any more on fb, only get a link to spanish wikipedia.

Friend of mine on FB just sent me this link from back in Feb which reports that Facebook does sometimes ask people who use their real names to "prove their identity"...

If that's how they go about it, they are totally brain dead, impractical as a global business and insensitive to people whose names are not english or "proper" like John Smith or something. If I wrote my name as is on my birth certificate, none of you would recognize it was me unless you were able to read the Greek alphabet. And then, when one translates my name in english there are at least three ways to write my first name in english which would phonetically sound correct. So what's their criteria?

I posted this on my FB page for others to share, and at first FB recognized and hyperlinked Laura's name as usual. As soon as the message was posted, the link was gone. She doesn't exist on FB anymore.

The page you see is the page that appears when someone has blocked you, though it obviously doesn't say you are blocked, you just cannot access anything for them, not even send a message. So this is what FB has done. They did say that they will take people's reports of 'news sites' etc seriously, so that was our first warning a few months back that this was on the cards. That anyone in fact can close anyone down.

I think just doing what y'all suggested above is the best. I didn't have to come to the Forum to realize what had happened - I just shared what everyone was already doing as I guessed right, I post far more controversial things, especially about the leader who finances the country I live in - psychopath Erdogan. So my days are definitely numbered, especially when dissenters and reporters are imprisoned, killed etc, but will keep on keeping on!

Is Google+ the only/best option? Is it time to tell people on FB that we are moving our main activities to google+ peeps?

I don't think Laura would wish to get inundated with her email address being given out.

Sorry to hear that happened. I had to submit a pic ID to fb several years ago. Not sure why, but I got my account back after taking a photo of my DL and emailing it to them. What a hassle! Made me paranoid.

Help! I cannot find my google+ account anymore. It comes up with accounts it seems to have made up, so lord knows where my shares have been going to!

I had loads of peeps added to my circles over the last couple of years. If any of you guys are still getting any of my shares could someone please send my my own url????

I find this so ridiculous. I did have my laptops 'mended' and lost loads of files and emails that had not backed up properly, but I was sure google is stored on its own servers (for spying purposes lol)

I am so sick and tired of social media and how we can lose all our contacts in an instant. Things used to be so simple and so EASY.. but now so so stressful - to get blocked a t the drop of a hat.

Techies - is there ANY way peeps can save their facebook and other contacts elsewhere so that we have a certain 'safeguard' against the control system? Like where or how can you store 3000 friends to upload to a new FB ID if necessary? (until the next time someone decides to 'report' you).

I have had 5000+ views on wherever my Google+ posts are going but NO circles to show!!!
