Iodine and Potassium Iodide

I was going to wait a while to report in but I've had some relatively intense effects. I've only taken it for 2 days (2 drops of 5%). I was starting to feel some flu-like symptoms before I started so not sure if the iodine has just exacerbated it, but the the first 24 hrs I had a HUGE amount of mucus exiting (nose and lungs). My main problem though is I can't sleep! My whole body is extremely sore, but mostly in my back. My nights are very restless and I can't sleep for more than 1-2 hours at a time. My train of thought are also very strange. It's almost like I'm in a dream state but not really because I'm still awake, and I'm bouncing between clear thoughts and a confusing depression. Also I have zero desire to smoke and I've completely lost my appetite.

I've been taking salt water, vit C, selenium, magnesium. I will go purchase the other cofactors asap. Is there anything specific that can help me sleep? Because I'm not sure if I should continue with the iodine or take a break, I just don't want it to negatively affect my daily life.

I have the simmilar intense reaction with only few drops of iodine too. So,as other have suggested , just stop the iodine and continue with co-factors. Even that tiny quantity of iodine is too much for your system in the moment. After everything sets down try very low dosages. You will be fine. Just take it easy. Take care :hug2:

Both of you may need to acquire your iodine transdermally. I'm not sure why such intense reactions; possibly detox, possibly starved endocrine system; possibly acutely sensitive endocrine system, etc.

Yeah, i was thinking in a same direction. I`ll stay off iodine maybe until the end of this month, and then i`ll start slow transdermal application. Maybe a heel dosing like Lynn Farrow speaks in the interview.
Probably i`ll go 2 times a week with one drop 2% lugols, transdermaly on the heel . If this way shows to be safe and light enough then after a month or so after the transdermal heel dosing maybe i will try very small oral dosages again. It will be something like one drop 2% lugols once a week and continue other days with cofactors and detoxification. After on that dosage for a while i can increase up to 2 times a week and then if everything goes well i can pulse the dosage more or less depending on how i feel.
So for now , maybe 2 more weeks i`ll be off iodine and if i dont get another wave of thyroid pain i`ll go as i described above.

Sounds like a good plan!

I've been taking 10 drops of 5% Lugol's almost every day for a while now - maybe a month.

I can only really report two things.

Firstly, I get a kind of funny feeling in my eyes for about an hour or so, sometime after intake. It's almost like a tingly sensation that might feel like burning if it were more intense. But it is not intense, painful, or even particularly unpleasant - it's just there. It's more like itchiness, and I compare it to the itchiness one feels in a cut when it is healing.

Also, sometimes it feels like I might have a headache coming on, but it never does. Kind of like the very first dull feeling of an oncoming headache before it is in any way painful. Again, something that might be quite unpleasant if it were intense, but it's not - it's just there, and can last an hour or so.

There have been two times that it set off a seriously cleansing bowel movement - liquid in consistency - but both times I had taken supplements closer to the time I took the iodine. Magnesium sometimes has that effect on me, especially if I haven't taken any for a few days. So I attributed those reactions to the mixing of the two. Although I could be wrong about that.

That's about it, really. I don't know what is to be learned from this, if anything.

To add to the many interesting uses of iodine, shortly after moving to our new place, I've started getting redness in the face. I don't really know what is causing it but it really looks like rosacea to me. So I went to the doctor to try and get a referral to see a dermatologist but he just prescribed my metronidazole and told me that the dermatologist would have done the same thing (so much for a referral, then again, he's probably right). I was a little surprised to get prescribed that though, as I though they would have given me a cortisone cream or something. I bought the cream anyway but on the way home I was thinking, you know, iodine is an antibacterial maybe I should put some of that on my face. So at home we had some supplemental liquid potassium iodine (in glycerin and mild, only 150mcg) and I started using that instead. At first it didn't seem to do much but after a few days there was remarkable improvement. You couldn't even tell anything happened! As an experiment, I stopped using the iodine on my face and after 2 or 3 days my face would become red and flush. So there's definitely something going on there. Though I still suspect there is something environmental going on.

As for Lugol's, I've been rather sporadic. Sometimes I would do only 2-5 drops for a couple of days, then forget. And when I remember, I would do a few here and there. Occasionally I would do 8-10 drops. That could be the reason I haven't really noticed anything in terms of detox or side effects. This past week I've been more consistent, taking about 8-10 drops. I'm using the 5% stuff which works out to about 50-60mg. On the weekends I stop taking lugol's and do some heavy metal detox with EDTA and DMSA. Monday is back to lugol's and extra minerals and supplements to replenish what's leached out during the weekend.

Having said before that my sleep improved with starting Lugol's, I can now say that I'm sleeping 6 to 7 hours consistently for a couple of weeks. That hadn't happened since a bit less than a year ago. Don't know why I started sleeping only 3 to 4.5 hours at that time, but wasn't able to get better results, and certainly not consistently all that time. Hope I continue sleeping 6 to 7 hours consistently in the future too.

I'm still taking 6 drops twice daily of ~6% Lugol's (7.1mg per drop of iodine/potassium iodide combo) since March 1. I was taking 7 drops twice daily before that for quite a while. Beginning in April, I'll try lowering the dose to 5 drops twice daily. I started in late November of 2015, and starting lower, built up to 8 drops twice daily. Then lowered it to 7 drops twice daily after several weeks.

So, overall, I think the process has been worth it (including that brutal antibiotic regime). I DO feel different though sometimes it's hard to say exactly how or why. I feel more like myself, I guess is the only way I can express it.

That is great to hear!! :) Thank you for sharing :flowers:

Great news Laura! I also feel more like myself... as if I have more willpower and a growing sense of being... it's very nice. Even though there are moments of anxiety, fear, negative thinking, it's like I can take it by the horns more easily and go on with what I want to do. :D

I've been taking 2 drops of Lugol's 5% and I think that's my "perfect dose" for now... As soon as I take it, I have a mild lighthead feeling, but it stops quickly and I feel with more mental clarity and energy during the day.

My father is going to start taking 1-2 drops every 2 days now, he had mercury fillings which he already removed some time ago, so we'll see how it goes for him. I think it will be good for my brother too, but we always prefer to do the protocols ourselves first before him, in that way, not everybody has a detox crisis at the same time ;)

When in the day are you taking your iodine?

Btw, as far as I can tell I'm getting no detox symptoms taking around 7 drops in the morning (labelled at a whopping 15%). Is that normal? Should I up my dose? I am making my way through this thread, but is there a link between iodine and nicotine? I'm a heavy smoker but last week stopped for a day and was hit so hard with mind fog and it seemed similar to what I've read of detox symptoms of iodine...

I had 3 sessions of drainage and, even though I got some flu symptoms immediately afterwards, it did seem to help a bit, especially concerning intestinal cleanse, yet, from what I understood, that can be because the lymphatic drainage flushes through the intestines primarily.

Just my two cents :)

Hey Yas! I think it's great that you're getting your lymphatic system detoxed, it plays such a vital role in the body.

In one of my recent biology classes, I learned quite a bit about the function of the lymphatic system. The human body is truly incredible in the way it works!

From what I've understood, the lymphatic system actually drains through your blood even though it's very much connected and involved in the digestion process. The lymphatic system include the thymus, spleen, tonsils, and appendix, along with some special tissue and vessels in the gut. From what I understand, the lacteal vessels (of the lymphatic system) around your intestine have selective permeability, a lot can go in, but not much goes out from these specific vessels. Improper digestion of your food and lack of lymphatic pumping clogs up your lymphatic vessels. This causes and an accumulation in the digestive tract, and continues to worsen without the help of the lymphatic system, this in turn causes improper absorption of nutrients. Often times, being ‘overweight’ is actually swelling and excess water from poor lymph flow.

As we know, approximately 80% of our immune system lies within the intestinal walls, and this is because of the lymphatic system. In fact, you appendix, which was thought at some point to be useless is actually a lymphatic organ that stores good flora in order to replenish for/if you have a strong immune response and kill off all your gut bacteria. (I don’t know how true this is).

One the other hand, fat - which once digested and packed are called chylomicrons, are absorbed and transported only by you lacteal vessels (along with other lipid soluble vitamins and nutrients) because they're too big of a molecule to pass through your capillaries and are also hydrophobic - once in the lacteal vessels, they travel through the lymphatic system up to your lymphatic ducts located in the back of your neck/shoulder area where it then drain into you subclavian veins, into your blood stream to then be transported around the body.

The lymphatic system also flows around your body picking up substances like dead cells, germs, excess protein, excess plasma, foreign bodies, pathogens etc... That your blood vessels cannot reach themselves. Without this process, your cells would be living in a toxic wasteland. The lymphatic system is critical for proper, detoxification, assimilation and immunity.

The lymph fluid is filtered of the debris through the many lymphatic nodules in your body. A good example of the lymphatic system’s filtration system is your lymph nodes, which is one of the many filters in your lymphatic system. Your Lymph nodes contain immune cells that can attack and destroy the germs that the lymph vessels have gathered and isolated within themselves. This is what causes swollen nodules when you’re sick – the inflammation of your white blood cells gathering and attacking. But also, Lymph nodes will become tender and swollen when the lymph system becomes backed up and overburdened with toxins, parasites, weakened cells from acidosis, mucus, metabolic wastes etc.

But once the fluid is cleansed and filter, (Lymph fluid is not discharged from the body) it enter backs into your blood stream as plasma to either be carried to the spleen where dead cells can be recycled, or to your liver, which gets ride of the waste in multiple ways. If the waste is water soluble, it gets sent back through the blood stream to gets filter through the kidneys, if it’s not, it’s extricated through bile into the intestinal tract, and then leaves through the colon.

Although, when your lymphatic system is overwhelmed, it looks for Plan B, which is to secrete mucus which can be expelled through our sinuses, chest, colon etc... This is not optimal. If you find yourself having an over production of mucus in your stool or anywhere else in your body, this is a sign of a clogged and overwhelmed lymphatic system.

The lymphatic system is 90% of your body’s water! :O As that article you posted pointed out, the lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump, like you heart for blood vessels circulatory system, so they do indeed depend on movement, and clogging and slow lymphatic system can hinder your immune system immensely, especially because your T-cells and B-cells come from you lymphatic system.
Quite a few auto-immune diseases have also been linked to improper flow of the lymphatic system.
The reason elders are recommended to elevate their feet or put on compression socks for swollen legs is to stimulate lymphatic circulation, as it is weakest in the leg area. Movement (even spinning) is your friend, and if you can’t, then go for a massage!

Actually, in some studies, Iodine deficiency is thought to be a common cause of lymphatic congestion. Iodine is thought to help support the lymph at the cellular level.

Speaking of which, a lot of people have been getting an increase in mucus production since starting the iodine protocol, including myself, and I also recall Laura mentioning it.. I wonder if this is something we should be paying attention to.

Of course, this is only from what I understand.

Why do you think you need to up your dose? Why don't you just continue with what isn't causing any issues for awhile and let the body do its work? Do you have some sort of illness or autoimmune condition that you think you can heal this way, or are you just "looking for the experience of detoxing" and thinking that you MUST have it or something is wrong. Believe me, if you are not ill, just take low doses and let the body work things out!!!

Thank you solie for this compilation of information about the lymphatic system, now more than ever appreciate its importance. It sounds pretty reasonable what you say regarding the formation of mucus. Iodine as such acts as a mucolytic, but the excess of it could be as you said the body looking for an alternative path of detoxification.
Lymph drainage massage is so powerful that I know a person with VIH that don't take antiretroviral medicines for years and his only treatment is take some powerful antioxidants like NAC, ubiquinol, trace elements, and a weekly Lymph drainage with acupuncture.

I am so happy that Laura is feeling well, Laura you are a knight and an example to follow your determination and courage.

Yas, thank you for your article about Lymphatic drainage and the excellent metaphor about body-house. And thanks to all the others for posting your experiences about iodine, what an adventurers is iodine making of us.

Just tell that yesterday taking iodine I felt instantaneous my sinus open. It was like iodine opened a canal inside my head. Very interesting. Also, and one member said the same thing, when I take iodine I feel also my eyes like very dry, instantaneous also. A small pression in my ears, no more depression or sadness, clarity more and more, energy good, certitude that everything is ok, less fear to confront bureaucrats, etc. Also less stress.

I am also curing a wound in one paw of one of my dogs that she has since many months. I put on it many ailments, with no avail. Finally I decided to put 3 times a day iodine with oil, and I can see that the inflammation of the wound is disappearing gradually. Day by day I can see the difference. Thanks Iodine!

I feel a little frustrated when I see people around me with health problems but I am unable to encourage to take iodine. It is no an easy thing to take iodine, and you need a team around you for that. People also are so far away of their bodies, that's a big plus for doctors and pharmaceuticals. All the bad food they eat, all the lies they listen are barriers between them and their bodies. They seem to be stock in a grey world, where curiosity is totally absent, imagination also. Curiosity is so important, so necessary to evolute. It is a sign of intelligence. I am sure that is curiosity that made possible the evolution of the man on earth, at the beginning. But around me I see people without curiosity.

Thanks everybody! I will continue to read this thread, I am always a little late to read it. So many things to read, so much to learn, so little time! And I wish everyone is ok.
