Here in S Central Wisconsin/USA (upper Midwest) we have been in a deep freeze since the day after Christmas. November and October were above average, though cloudy and dreary; first week of December was well below average, then a brief few days of near average (around 0C) but since then, Oh baby, It's COLD outside. The mild Oct/Nov weather did not allow acclimation to temps 20+ degrees colder.
Last night, temps got down to -9F (-23C) and didn't get much above 2F(-18C) today. The NW wind that has been accompanying this polar snap makes it downright painful to be outside without full Winter gear and even then, exposed eye area burns when walking into the wind.
Tonight's forecast low is -10F(-23C), but tomorrow it's gonna "warm" up to 12F(-11C)...woo-hoo! and highs for week go down from there til weekend, when highs are forecast to get up to 30F (-1C) with chance of snow, but only for a couple of days before temps plunge again.
Have only gotten a couple of inches of snow so far this Winter, just enough to brighten things up and make roads greasy from the salt....doesn't work to melt snow when temps are below 15F(-10C) Areas South of here have gotten more snow than our area.
On the bright side, it has been sunny and we haven't had any nasty freezing rain type weather preceding the frigid temps we've experienced the past few Winters.
And as for our husky mix, he just LUUUUUVs this weather, doesn't want to come inside after his walks.
