Canberra thunderstorm 23rd January.. amazing!

It was quite a storm, as you say. The noise kept me awake for quite a while.
It's only fair to add that your accompanying photograph is a composite, spectacular all the same.

I actually thought it was a slow shutter speed. I was out storm watching on the balcony and although this photo is taken over a few minutes the amount of lightening coming from all directions was phenomenal. The area was pitch black for about an hour at 10.30pm-11.30pm, the power grids in Queanbeyan were all down, I haven't seen that for a while.

Today is officially the warmest January 24th in the Netherlands since temperature measurements started being recorded in 1901. The record dating from 1960 was broken in De Bilt at 6:50 a.m. with the thermometer reading 12.2 degrees Celsius, Weerplaza reports.

The day record was also broken at four other measuring points in the Netherlands early this morning, including at Schiphol. And temperatures will still climb somewhat during the course of the day, reaching a maximum of between 13 and 14 degrees. The Netherlands usually gets such high temperatures in mid-April.

In Southern Denmark, some 400 hundred kilometers, as the wind blows, to the north east of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, the 24th of January gave a new all time temperature high since records began in 1874, when 12.9 Celsius were attained in the town of Sønderborg near the Danish/German border. _http://www.dmi.dk/nyheder/arkiv/nyheder-2018/januar/danmark-fik-ny-varmerekord-for-januar/

Quite a number of Western countries have gotten a lot of rain lately. France is one of those places which has been in the news with flooding. This map of France show the rainfall in the first 3 weeks of January, 2018, from Jan 1-21.

The above is from an article from the French meteorological institute: _http://www.meteofrance.fr/actualites/58301496-hiver-2018-une-pluviometrie-exceptionnelle

In the mountains this has fallen as snow, which is the same here in Switzerland, where I live. In the flatlands in Switzerland there is no snow and January has been exceptionally mild...but wet and stormy (3 storms).

We've sure been getting our share of rain here in Southwest France. Interestingly, today we have the highest barometric reading we've had since Scottie started recording it in 2013. 1041.something. The old type barometer we have upstairs here has buried its needle. The weather site says we had sun all day, but we haven't seen it. Foggy and cold and overcast. So, where's my good weather?

Oslo,I can see the moon today. After many days snowing Suddenly we had sleet and a lot of snow was melted but it is still very cold.I can not ask for a good weather...i`m in the North

The good weather might have relocated to London: we had 13 degrees Celsius (55 F) and sunshine here today. This winter has been surprisingly mild with very little rain. My heating bills have been the lowest I've seen during my time here. The forecast for the week ahead says it is going to rain a bit more but temperatures will continue to be mild 8-13 C (46-53 F).

Beautiful weather here in Western Australia, still unusually mild for this time of the year, looks like low to mid 30's (c) for the rest of the week, blue skies, I'm going to try and get as much vitamin D as I can :)

At the park with the little one today and the trees there have dropped their leaves all over the place.. it looks like autumn but only at that park... weird... these same trees still had leaves coming into winter last year. Poor trees don't know how to act. It's been constant mid to high 30s (°C) for weeks.

D'où êtes vous DUVETEUX ?...

Mexico City and around the country, temperature dropped due to a #25 cold front ... there had been reports of sleet in higher places of the city ... right now we are at 13°C but the sensation is colder, quite unpractical wearing 3-5 sweaters to work because in most places there are no heaters, and, according to the forecast it can get colder and is going to last the week.

Real spring last few days in Macedonia. Temperatures during the day go up to 18C and during the night they drop to -2C. Clear sky and lot of sunshine.
Forecasts are that from this weekend temperatures will go down and there will be some snowfalls in the mountains and rain at lower altitudes.
Very strange and very fast changes of weather conditions.

Completely snowed and zero and subzero temperatures in North Central Spain. It is hard to get by through most roads right now.
