Iodine and Potassium Iodide

Hey Gang, I was thinking of making my own Lugol's - has anyone attempted that yet? I found KI crystals on amazon, 1lb for $100... but I can't seem to find iodine crystals. Anyone have a suggested supplier?

I've been taking 50mg from drops of lugol's for about 2-3 weeks now and I feel incredible. Occasionally getting odd headaches, but they seem to have been happening more in the beginning and I think it was a detox symptom.

Living in highly toxic world, almost everyone is need to take iodine supplement to stay in healthy mind and body, but especially need for removing toxic from thyroid and even the pineal gland where fluoride concentrates.
When take iodine, immediately increases the excretion of bromide, fluoride, and some heavy metals, because iodine has the highest atomic weight of all the common halogens.

Iodine is the only option when it comes to removing these toxic, because bromide and fluoride are not removed by any other chelator or detoxifying technique.

How to avoid fluoride exposure

. Use good water filters.
. Do not use fluoride toothpaste.
. Do not eat processed food.
. Avoid cooking with non-stick(Teflon) pans.
. Do not get fluoride gel treatment from dentist.

What has bromide?

Methyl bromide is pesticide used mainly on strawberries.
Potassium bromate is a dough conditioner found in bakery products and some flours.
Vinly bromide(flame retardant synthetic fibers) used in fabrics, carpet, upholstery and mattresses.
Plastic, like those used to make computers.
Disinfectant for swimming pools, whirl pools, hot tubs contains both chlorine and bromine.
Brominated vegetable oil(BVO) is add to citrus fruity flavor- Gatorade, Powerade, Mountain Dew, squirt, Fresca, Sunkist peach, Fanta orange....
Sodium bromate can be found in personal care products, such as permanent waves, hair dyes, textile dyes.
Medications, such as Atrovent inhaler, Atrovent nasal spray, pro-banthine(for ulcers) and Anesthea agents.

The Dead Sea has the highest concentration in the world of bromine, and where Bath Salt and Mud harvested from.
Today bromine is extracted on an industrial scale from Dead Sea and Salt Lakes.

PBDEs(bromide) are banned in many countries outside the US.

Regarding these "good" water filters , well to my knowledge it is impossible to filter out Sodium Fluoride from tap water.
Do you by any chance know which filter is a proper one ?

A water distiller would be your best bet.
Reverse osmosis or a berkey filter (with additional flouride filters) would be other options.

Berkey has fluoride filters to be add on their water filters.

Amazing thread guys! :)

I just received my Lugol's this past Monday, yay! Although I plan on starting next week as I've been introducing the co-factor first - don't wanna overwhelm my body by throwing a whole bunch of new elements at it all at once! XD

I have been salt loading for the past week or so now, and I must say, great colon cleanse! I do have one question though regarding the salt loading: I do know that sodium intake can affect potassium excretion from the body. An increased intake of one mineral will result in an increased excretion of the other mineral.

So my question is, would it be smart to include supplementation with potassium for those of use doing the protocol? Maybe not daily but perhaps every other day or once a week? I know that the potassium received from the Lugol's is very minimal.

I also thought that maybe the symptoms that people are having like, nausea, diarrhea, frequent urination, dehydration, confusion, irritability, could also be do to low potassium levels, (besides detoxing) since those are all symptoms of such.

Hi there :) The only types of filters that can remove fluoride are reverse osmosis filters, deionizers filters, and activated alumina. The berkey filter I believe is deionizer, and probably the most practical choice.

- Monday: Salt water, 8 drops 5% Lugol's, same supplements. I felt great all day, more energetic than I had felt in months, and the infection symptoms were much reduced. That was until the evening, when I fainted. I had told my husband that I felt dizzy and nauseous, and found myself hugging my husband at one moment and then coming to on the floor the next. I literally went unconscious in his arms, which was lucky, because otherwise I would have just fallen.

mod: minor edit

Look after yourself, Finduilas495. Best wishes to the two of you.

I was in the pharmacy of my small town recently and they only sell topical iodine but the ingredients list only iodine and potassium iodide. Would this be safe to injest and if no then why not?

EDIT: Also would topical iodine be absorbed into the body? Is this an efficient way of using iodine?

Thank you, everyone, for all the valuable info and personal accounts.

I've decided to share my experiences, too. I'm busily reading this thread and have just started Brownstein’s book.

I do not have severe physical health conditions but brain fog and confusion have been with me for the best part of my life. I self diagnosed myself with ADD ca. 20 years ago and went to see a nutritionist, who had a son with severe ADD. Her recommendations were sound enough but I was emotionally too entangled and anxious (sometimes with bulimic phases) and obviously not prepared to lose my “safety haven” at the time (confusion can offer some pseudo–safety).

Now is a different story and my diet is much improved. Not meeting keto or paleo standards but much better than before and confusion is often held at bay and makes room for much more clarity.

Anyway: I started taking Lugol’s 5% a bit more than a week ago. Taking 2 to 3 drops a day. I started with 3 the first day, then thought 2 will do the next, then took 3 again. A bit “whimy”, I think . Meaning: there was no reason for increasing or decreasing. But I guess 2 or 3 drops are still a low dose). What might have been too much: I ‘ve eaten seaweed every day.

I also take rock salt water, selenium, vitamin C, NAC, milk thistle, co factors and magnesium before going to bed (forgot to take the magnesium twice though). All within recommended dosage and erring on the cautious side.

I noticed a “buzzing” of energy and a feeling of being somewhat “carried”. Can’t quite describe it so well: it’s as if this energy supported me and as a consequence I don’t have to pull myself together so much all the time. I often feel this way - like I have to muster up a disproportionate amount of energy simply to “control” myself, so as to manage to see myself through the day and the moment I “let go” I am in danger of emotionally collapsing in a heap, particularly when I need to meet expectations from the outside.

There’s also been a bit of a runny nose, a slight feeling of tightness in the throat, a bit of constipation, more dreaming and waking up at 3 or 4 a.m. and also a flatness and tiredness in the afternoons.

Then I decided to take a day off (but why didn’t I take off two days, I wonder?!) and went back the next day again with 3 drops. That was yesterday and I started to get flu symptoms. At night I drank a lot of water but my headache became more pronounced and today I am rather miserable. Headache, throat hurts, feeling of dizziness.

I am giving myself at least 2 days rest (while taking the salt and vitamins and drinking a lot of water) and will not take more than 2 drops when I start again.

Something odd: halfway into this post I started to cry and it turned into a veritable crying fit. Anyway, feeling better now.

In a sense I am weirdly glad about these iodine adventures because they seem to make me want to share more on the forum.

Just wanted to report that I took two days off and today I started taking Lugol's 5% again (two drops) and I start feeling much better. I also took 200 mcg selenium for the first time and I went for a walk. When I came back these bizarre migrating aches and pains had diminished considerably. Also, my nausea disappeared after drinking some water with apple cider vinegar. As RedFox also wrote in this thread I am having difficulty with fat ATM, but the vinegar seems to help and some sauerkraut and water with vitamin C also seem to do the trick.
I also take NAC, vitamin C, ALA and magnesium citrate on a daily basis.

I have been gaining weight ever since I started taking potassium (the tablet also contains 20 mg kelp) or so it seems. So maybe I am detoxing 'mightily'?

I am also feeling more emotional and tearful. Iodine and iodide work like a physical cleanse, but they also affect the mental, psychological and spiritual plane in that way. Well, that's my theory. :)

You can supplement with potassium if you think you need it. Minerals in general could help with the detox.

Happy iodine adventure!

Hello to all,
I would like to thank all of forum members for so many information about iodine, and special thanks to Laura and Gaby. Information about iodine therapy literary changed my life and I can't thank you enough.

I got Brownstein's Iodine book and it's really informative especially regarding today's Iodine phobia, I also got Lugol 5% and commenced with iodine protocol including salt-water and Vitamine C and B as suggested on this thread. For 25 years I have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) together with many problems like: dysmenorrhoea, facial hirulism, migraines, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia FM, obesity, hair loss, excess mucous production, lower back pain, various infections, two time bronchitis and pneumonia, breast pain, tonsillitis, sinusitis, etc.

For almost three weeks I steadily increased dosage and didn't have any reaction except high energy (after so many years of chronic fatigue), but PCOS regular pain mostly abated on dosage of 12 drops per day, dysmenorrhoea stopped at 15 drops per day. First changes occurred on 10 drops but it was small change so I was thinking it is just a coincidence, now It is really strange to be without regular pain and usual muscle cramps and being able to walk and crouch or take cold shower without any pain. For 12 years doctor gave me hormonal therapy and he insisted on vegetarian diet with less possible animal fat and exclusion of meat with small intake of fish, after many torments I refused to continue with it back in 2008 although my doc was thinking I'm on the track to get cancer if I don't continue with hormones and his diet. At that time I lost any hope in healing PCOS, but now I have hope again, and of course now I'm on keto.
On other hand my FM pain in neck and shoulders increased with dosage, but gaining a bit of pain in FM muscles is nothing compares to the pain I have due to the PCOS, to be on a safe side I'm back on 10 drops per day. I've not yet had any gastrointestinal problems after taking the higher doses.

I'm not sure, how long should I stay on such dosage and should I increase it, because I have chronic disease and I have 25 kilos more than I should? I know Brownstein cured ladies with fibrocystic breast disease (cysts in the breast) after supplementing with 50 mgs of iodine a day for two months, but he also stated that owereight person should take more. I know it is not same disease but lot of women with a PCOS had fibrocystic breast disease, and for the both of diseases the greatest issue is chronic lack of Iodine in the body.

Thank you once more for everything.
